I still struggle with David Bowie dying when he did , he had just brought out a new album and thought all was well . He and Pink Floyd were my childhood music .
Also Freddy Mercury, just feel so sad that such a talented and versatile man died too young when now people with aids live long happy lives .
People I have never met but feel so much sadness that they have gone .

Terry Wogan. He looked like and reminds me of my Dad. Cried buckets when he passed away and even more so when they did the Pudsey Bear wearing black with a tear rolling down his face.

Paul Walker. Died so young and so tragically. I saw footage of him getting in that fateful racing car and thought "if only he knew"

Carrie Fisher. Watching her as Princess Leia as a young child had a huge impact. This girl can.

DesdemonasHandkerchief · 09/11/2018 16:42

David Bowie - probably the only famous person whose passing I will ever feel tearful about.
I've always been a fan but was more into his 70's and (at the time) 80's output.
I watched every scrap of footage I could and became a bit obsessive in the days after his death. I saw him live twice but one of my greatest regrets will be not seeing him more often when I had the chance.

ethelredonagoodday · 09/11/2018 16:43

Bowie. Really affected me. And whilst I was a big fan, wasn't an absolute devoted Bowie nut. Cried several times and felt really down for quite a few days after he died.

I'm no fan of mass hysteria but I do get upset sometimes when someone famous dies. David Bowie, Terry Pratchett and Aretha Franklin come to mine. One of the ones that still makes me sad because it could have changed the course of recent UK history is John Smith. If he'd become PM would we have got involved in the Iraq war? Would we have dropped the ball so spectacularly when it came to regulation of the financial services industry, leading to the crash? We'll never know.

I think I cried when Robin Williams died it was so sad suicide is such a lonely tragic death.

Annonymiss123 · 09/11/2018 16:44

I saw the thread title and was coming to post, david bowie, i still have trouble believing he is dead

Snap. Sad

Furiosa · 09/11/2018 16:45

Mark Speight's death was utterly tragic too.

rugbychick1 · 09/11/2018 16:45

Victoria Wood, Patrick Swayze and George Michael

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 09/11/2018 16:46

Only ever cried when Terry Wogan died, it might sound ridiculous but he was a lifeline when I was suffering from pnd.

BirthdayKake · 09/11/2018 16:47

Robin Williams and Jade Goody

MrsJayy · 09/11/2018 16:48

Aw yes Victoria Wood and I keep forgetting George Michael is dead Sad

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 09/11/2018 16:50

Anthony Bourdain.
Not just becuse I really looked up to him and been so inspired by him throughout my life, but the manner in which it happened.

Bezalelle · 09/11/2018 16:52

Amy Winehouse. I was gutted.

supersqueeze · 09/11/2018 16:53

Scott Hutchison from Frightened Rabbit. He wrote songs about it then eventually did it. Broke my heart.

steff13 · 09/11/2018 16:54

Alan Rickman. I heard it on the radio when I was driving my daughter to preschool, and I just about held it together long enough to drop her off and get back to the car before I started sobbing.

JustLurkingAway · 09/11/2018 16:54

Whitney Houston, she was all I heard growing up, her death really affected my mum too, she loved her. And, even though I wasn't alive when he died, Ayrton Senna.

poppy196 · 09/11/2018 16:55

Thank you for sharing your losses .
So happy or sad should I say that so many felt the death of David Bowie in the same way .
Just don't know why as reading through I'm thinking oh no forgot they had gone and such a shame specially the young ones like Jade Goody .But the biggest loss for me is David Bowie , mind you when Roger waters goes I will really struggle .

Cory Monteith (Finn in Glee). I would never have guessed his drug problem, he seemed very wholesome to me before I found out x

Kerantli · 09/11/2018 16:57

Alan Rickman - I'd been saddened when I heard, but a couple days later it hit me, HARD. Ugly tears and snot bubbles included

HarrySnotter · 09/11/2018 16:58

George Michael. Not because I was massively surprised but I was devastated.

Babymamamama · 09/11/2018 17:01

James Gandolfini aka Tony Soprano. I had an odd childhood to put it mildly and he reminded me of my (flawed) father. Very messed up I know.

AlbertWinestein · 09/11/2018 17:07

Rick Mayall is dead?!! I had no idea!

Steve Irwin, mainly as my 8 year old (at the time) son was absolutely inconsolable. He adored Steve Irwin and watched every episode of Crocodile Hunter at least 10 billion times, on a loop for weeks afterwards.

DS still has the photo of them together (we met him at his zoo) framed and laughs now at how the most traumatic moment of his childhood being when a guy off the tv, who wrestled crocodiles for a living, died. 😄

BearSoFair · 09/11/2018 17:08

Bowie for me too, I was getting ready for work when they announced it on Breakfast and I just stood in the kitchen and cried! Went to the mural in Brixton and left flowers which is very unlike me, and on the anniversary this year I got a Blackstar tattoo. He was one of those people who seemed somehow 'above' death, which seems mad, but it just seemed like he'd always be there...

contblin · 09/11/2018 17:10

Chris Cornell. Can't listen to Soundgarden without getting upset
