I still struggle with David Bowie dying when he did , he had just brought out a new album and thought all was well . He and Pink Floyd were my childhood music .
Also Freddy Mercury, just feel so sad that such a talented and versatile man died too young when now people with aids live long happy lives .
People I have never met but feel so much sadness that they have gone .

Oh yes @supersqueeze Scott Hutchinson was awful too. I saw his friend Frank Turner on the day it was confirmed Scott had been found and he did such an emotional cover of Modern Leper, it was so hard to stand through, still makes me well up a bit now!

triwarrior · 09/11/2018 17:12

Philip Seymour Hoffman. I still remember exactly where I was when I heard.

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 09/11/2018 17:13

Haven’t cried but I always get a lump in my throat when I hear Fairytale of New York.

PrincessIsAUnicorn · 09/11/2018 17:15

Same op, David Bowie, Alan Rickman and Rick Mayall 😢😢😢

Hairydilemma · 09/11/2018 17:15

Princess Diana and Jill Dando - both just massive shocks

Imsoimso · 09/11/2018 17:17

Amy Winehouse. Not going to say why.

WhipItGood · 09/11/2018 17:23

I still feel really sad about Rik Mayall. It seems impossible because he was so full of fun Sad

John Peel made me sad too.

I remember when Kirsty MacColl died. Right on Christmas and in such an awful way. So every Christmas when Fairytale of New York is played I remember her.

LadyFarnborough · 09/11/2018 17:25

Kurt Cobain and River Phoenix. Both such a waste of such talent.

I have never cried at the death of a celebrity but I remember feeling incredibly shocked when I heard that John Lennon had been killed.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 09/11/2018 17:33

I remember being really upset about Kurt Cobain. I was also really upset hearing about Bobbi-Kristina Brown's death, so very tragic after what happened with Witney Houston.

Idratherhaveacupoftea · 09/11/2018 17:34

Elvis Presley
John Lennon
George Harrison
Terry Wogan
Victoria Wood
Buddy Holly

Amy Winehouse

I truly believed she would be o.k, once she had sorted her feelings out.

I loved her voice, I loved her style. I thought she was unique for her age.

I saw a lot of my younger years in her & 'got' some of what she seemed to be going through.

I thought, like me - she'd sort things out.

I still cant believe it.

Sad

Peaches Geldof. Her children are the same age as 2 of mine and I was so so shocked and sad when she died. I still find myself thinking of her sometimes. Odd because I liked her but wasn't some super fan or anything!

StopTakingAllTheGoodNames · 09/11/2018 17:37

Robin Williams. I get so emotional when I watch his films now it's bizarre!

darksideofthemooncup · 09/11/2018 17:39

David Bowie here too, I think it's because he was always there, a little bit strange but all the more fabulous for it. I guess he made it ok to be a kook and that spoke to me when so was trying to find out what I was all about growing up

darksideofthemooncup · 09/11/2018 17:40

I was, not so

brieandcrackers · 09/11/2018 17:42

The one I've been most affected by was Cory Monteith (Finn on Glee) - such a lovely man who had a bright future to look forward to. The episode where the cast dealt with Finn's death was hard to watch.

The deaths of David Bowie and Robin Williams hit me hard too, and I've cried a few times over Freddie Mercury despite being born after he passed away!

AcrossthePond55 · 09/11/2018 17:43

The assassination of RFK. I was a young teen politically involved for the first time and his death absolutely devastated me. I was watching the news reports regarding his primary victory on TV when the on scene reporter broke into the broadcast to announce he'd been shot.

Robin Williams hit me, big time. His was the first 'celebrity' death to really, really upset me.

John Lennon made me cry, but I think it was more due to the 'death of one of the Beatles' vis a vis my childhood/teen years as opposed to it feeling a 'personal' loss like Robin and RFK.

FloofyDoof · 09/11/2018 17:44

Terry Pratchett. His books have been a much loved part of my life forever, I always had the most recent Discworld book to read over Christmas. I still haven't been able to read The Shepherd's Crown, though I have had it sitting on a bookshelf since it's release, because once I do I will never have a new Terry Pratchett book to read Blush

I was sad to hear about Prince, Bowie, Alan Rickman, Lemmy and lots of people whose work I'd enjoyed, but never upset, as with Terry Pratchett.

MrsJamin · 09/11/2018 17:46

Amy Winehouse, for sure. She had a talent way beyond her years. It was tragic how she died so young and someone didn't step in and help when she clearly needed it. Her music was very important to me yet I can't quite bring myself to listen to it still, years after her death. The film Amy was very hard to watch and has stayed with me.

ilikepeanutbutter · 09/11/2018 17:48

When peaches geldof died I felt really sad

Snowscreen · 09/11/2018 17:51

Ive just been reading about Peaches. I had no idea there is such a theory about it. Sad

Terf2Terf · 09/11/2018 17:55

Paula Yates - her whole family car-crash-life really upsets me.

John Smith, Roy Jenkins and Charles Kennedy. All remarkable statesmen, decent and fair.

Robin Williams. Just. Because.
