I still struggle with David Bowie dying when he did , he had just brought out a new album and thought all was well . He and Pink Floyd were my childhood music .
Also Freddy Mercury, just feel so sad that such a talented and versatile man died too young when now people with aids live long happy lives .
People I have never met but feel so much sadness that they have gone .

I am feeling shocked as I read this thread that the majority died quite young, only a couple or so over 80, Leonard Cohen bring one, not sure who else, a smattering over 70 but most were younger than me and I am 60.

I don't cry over celebrity deaths, but I think hearing about Robin Williams' death was the saddest of all for me. He was such a warm, funny and intelligent person that I could have imagined him being around to be an excellent old man. The thought that he died in emotional pain upsets me.

nozzel · 09/11/2018 16:30

Quite a few really, Princess Diana, George Michael, Alan Rickman, Rik Mayall & Seve Ballesteros.

Just so sad, I really admired both Alan Rickman & Rik Mayall. My early teens I used to love copying Princess Diana's fashions & I had a crush on George Michael growing up.

But Seve, what a man & a true legend. I met him once, he was my hero & he was was my lovely Dad's hero too. Such a sad loss.

Nodnol · 09/11/2018 16:31

Diana
Robin Williams
Alan Rickman
Michael Jackson.

All because they were part of my life growing up and all seemed so familiar to me.

Weirdly the most devastated though was when Steve Irwin died. I cried and cried. Then Bindi at his service and Terri doing the interview, it was so heartbreaking that such a character was no more.

spiderplantsalad · 09/11/2018 16:31

Terry Pratchett. Obviously I knew he was ill but I grew up reading his books and they helped me through some truly awful times.

IHeartKingThistle · 09/11/2018 16:31

I was just starting to read Carrie Fisher's writing when she died and my goodness, she was talented.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/11/2018 16:32

Oh! I forgot, because it REALLY shocked me, Mark Linkous.

Sparklehorse were my own personal soundtrack, quiet, dense lyrics and, whatever they meant, I loved it! The thought of not growing old with new Linkous music to look forward to is still odd. As with Amy Whinehouse!

PrincessScarlett · 09/11/2018 16:32

Corey Haim
River Phoenix
Heath Ledger
Robin Williams
George Michael

All such troubled souls and such talents.

Spankyoumuchly · 09/11/2018 16:32

Robin Williams has a form of dementia which caused suspicion and paranoia. I'd assumed it was depression but the autopsy found out why.

Letshopeitsallok · 09/11/2018 16:33

John Peel. His radio show was a lifeline to the outside world growing up. And I met him 2 months previously at Glastonbury.

Is anyone else reading this thread thinking, “Fuck, I’d forgotten he/she/they had died,” and getting sad all over again?

Storm4star · 09/11/2018 16:33

Famous people dying really doesn't affect me or make me feel sad. I didn't know them and I'm always a bit surprised to see people get so upset.

Years back my DS used to watch wrestling and one of the wrestlers, Chris Benoit, killed his wife and child then himself. That was the only one that affected me a bit, because he'd killed his family. I guess I was more shocked than anything.

TheMarbleFaun · 09/11/2018 16:34

Wasn't that upset when he actually died but the thought of Prince not being here anymore makes me sad

CheeseTheDay · 09/11/2018 16:34

Alan Rickman - I'm still not over it.

Prince and George Michael too.

havingabadhairday · 09/11/2018 16:34

I was very sad about Terry Pratchett, Iain Banks and Ursula le Guin.

Alan Rickman affected me more than I expected. Carrie Fisher.

When I was younger, Kurt Cobain. I was a big Nirvana fan.

Vanillamanilla1 · 09/11/2018 16:34

Whitney Houston
Princess Diana
Prince
Freddie Mercury
Still incredibly sad they're not here

StableGenius · 09/11/2018 16:35

When Alan Rickman died loads of my friends messaged me to see if I was OK - I just loved him and was so looking forward to him doing more directing too Sad.

I was surprised at how the death of Amy Winehouse affected me - knocked me for six. She just had so much more to give, and was a truly unique voice.

ALongHardWinter · 09/11/2018 16:36

I remember feeling gutted when I heard that Phil Lynott had died, back in 1986. I had been a massive fan of Thin Lizzy throughout my teens, and I thought he was great,a brilliant front man for the band and and an ace song writer. When I heard about the circumstances of his death,I can't say that I was terribly surprised, but it was still a shock, and I felt so sorry for his two very young daughters.

CarmelitasMango · 09/11/2018 16:37

Aretha.

funkylittleboatrace · 09/11/2018 16:37

Bowie ⚡️

GlasgowWorrier · 09/11/2018 16:38

I was surprised by how sad I was when Terry Wogan died. Some of those older celebrities felt a bit like distant family relations you never saw but had heard a lot about, forever, and were fond of.

fairyofallthings · 09/11/2018 16:38

Steve Irwin's children are almost exactly the same age as my eldest two so it did make me sad when he died.

Ginger1982 · 09/11/2018 16:39

I don't understand all the grief when celebs die. It's sad for their families and friends but folk that get very upset baffle me. Like the mass hysteria when Diana died. Having lost my dad at the age of 13 (me, not him obvs!) the year before, I felt for William and Harry, but all those folk sobbing at the palace gates 🙄

WhoisyourDaddyandwhatdoeshedo · 09/11/2018 16:39

Prince
George Michael (i've even named my two degus George and Michael after him)
Chester Bennington
Brittany Murphy, cant believe that was nearly 10 years ago
David Bowie

Skinandbones · 09/11/2018 16:40

Prince, saw him in concert a few times, sad to see ppl coming out of the woodwork when he died.
Cory Monteith, cried buckets, haven't a clue why.
And just the other week had a look to see when a favourite author was bring his next book out and saw he was in his mid 90,

TokyoSushi · 09/11/2018 16:41

Prince & Princess Diana
