I still struggle with David Bowie dying when he did , he had just brought out a new album and thought all was well . He and Pink Floyd were my childhood music .
Also Freddy Mercury, just feel so sad that such a talented and versatile man died too young when now people with aids live long happy lives .
People I have never met but feel so much sadness that they have gone .

Even for people who've affected you on an emotional level, @greendale17?

beenandgoneandbackagain · 09/11/2018 15:38

Ayrton Senna and George Michael

MrsExpo · 09/11/2018 15:38

Bizarrely, I shed a tear when I heard the Terry Wogan had died. He seemed to be such a lovely man: a sad loss. Also, Victoria Wood - who was a woman whose talent I always admired - taken far too young.

Bombaybunty · 09/11/2018 15:38

Bowie for me as well. His death really shook me.

JumpersForGoalposts · 09/11/2018 15:39

Ray 'Butch' Wilkins - I used to watch him play for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the 70s and he seemed like such a nice, genuine bloke.

TheMonaOgg · 09/11/2018 15:39

Terry Pratchett. I cried for ages. And Terry Wogan also caused me to shed a tear or two.

DeadDoorpost · 09/11/2018 15:39

Terry Pratchett. Cried while reading the book that came out just after he died (The Shepherds Crown)
Alan Rickman and Robin Williams also made me sad but I didn't cry. I'm just sad I'll never see them in any new films

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 09/11/2018 15:39

Victoria Wood’s death knocked me more than I would have expected. I had been missing her for quite a while as she hadn’t done much comedy but I had assumed that she was following other interests not that she was ill.

TheFaerieQueene · 09/11/2018 15:41

David Bowie
Caroline Aherne
Victoria Wood

😢

@AnyFucker No your right poor Jamie was remember for all the wrong reasons. Should have his place here too .
I was so shocked at the time and can still remember the video of him leaving with his killers , if only we could have grabbed him back 😞
Thanks for your thoughts 😁
Yes definitely George Michael and so very sad that he lived his life in the media but found alone dead on Christmas Day , so very sad .

Jonah Lomu too. He was only 40, and even though he'd been ill for years with a kidney problem it was still a shock that such a strong, vital person had died so young.

ChestOfFields · 09/11/2018 15:41

Leonard Cohen.
His music has seen me through lots of stuff over the years.
I still cry sometimes, usually to
So long Marianne 💔

wombatsears · 09/11/2018 15:41

Chester Bennington. Linkin Park were the music of my teenage angst.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 09/11/2018 15:42

Heath Ledger and Anthony Bourdain.

sunshineandshowers21 · 09/11/2018 15:43

robin williams. i woke up in the night and was looking at my phone and saw the news that he had died. i woke my partner up sobbing. no idea why it affected me so much.

ghostlygal · 09/11/2018 15:44

Princess Diana's death was a big one for me. I still remember being glued to the tv for days just watching everything unfold from the crash to the funeral.

LadyMary1918 · 09/11/2018 15:44

Whitney Houston - so much of her music was around my coming of age

Robin Williams - what talent taken too soon

FurryGiraffe · 09/11/2018 15:44

Jo Cox. She died a few weeks after I had DS2, so I was probably feeling particularly emotional. I felt so sad for her children.

RaininSummer · 09/11/2018 15:44

Yes to David Bowie. I, too, thought he would be here forever. I am now of the age where all of my film and music heroes will be leaving us soon.

Redglitter · 09/11/2018 15:46

I've never cried at a celebrity death. I can't think of celeb who's death would make me cry. Not when I don't know them.

Saying that I remember it feeling surreal & quite shocking seeing the reports of George Michaels death

MamaLovesMango · 09/11/2018 15:47

I find it strange watching videos of Bowie and thinking he’s not on Earth anymore.

DennisIsABastardMan · 09/11/2018 15:48

I never really understood how people could get upset over someone they never knew until Leonard Cohen died. I could barely hold it together on the way to work. His music has been such an intense part of my life and he was such a unique man. I knew it was coming as he was so old and frail, but it still knocked me for six.

WeShouldOpenABar · 09/11/2018 15:49

Despite being a massive pterry fan I didn't actually cry when he died. I balled oddly enough anton yelchin died.
I think because he was so young and the absolute futility of the way he died and I really liked him Sad

NatashaRomanov · 09/11/2018 15:51

Carrie Fisher. I remember spending time over the days leading up to the news, just hoping she was going to be OK.
Then hearing about her Mother dying the day after. It was heartbreaking. I think a lot of my grief was for Billie Lourd. She is 7 years younger than me, and to lose two such important family members like that, at that time of year. Sad It just really got to me.

Disfordarkchocolate · 09/11/2018 15:51

Victoria Wood, I feel like I grew up with her. A groundbreaking woman who was massively talented in so many ways. I watched Housewife 49 last month full of sadness that she was gone.
