What odd things do you see on your commute?

A road near me has at least three houses where people appear to lock themselves in the front porch to smoke. The door to the house is shut behind them, but so is the porch door. Even when the weather is positively balmy they stand there looking like they are in the Mr and Mrs soundproof booth as it slowly fills up with smoke. One bloke even has a little stool he sits on in there.

It completely mystifies me. All these houses have back gardens, as far as I can work out, yet these people stand in full view of the road in their dressing gowns, smoking furiously in their self imposed little cell and probably stinking out their downstairs hallway.

What possible explanation can there be? What odd stuff do you see on your way to and from work?

I walk through a park on my way to work. There is a lady I often see jogging with headphones on but singing at the absolute top of her voice. It's very odd at 730am to hear the words of Tina Turner being belted out by a breathless runner from half way across a field.

There's a mum who walks her (I would guess) 8 year old daughter to school on my commute route. Whenever it rains the mum puts a black bin bag over her daughter to keep her dry! If that's not weird enough the girl is wearing a decent coat under it! She's cut a hole out of the bag for her head but not her arms! She just waddles along by her mums side, armless, wearing the bin bag like it's normal!?

The first time I saw it I had to do a double take and nearly crashed!

I hope she takes it off her before she gets close to school otherwise I can only imagine how much the other kids make fun of her Confused

Where I once lived commuters reported a man for unlawful relations with his horse on an allotment.....

I drive past a very large detached house in good repair with manicured gardens, shaped hedges, "prestige" cars in the 4 car driveway - which always has one or two shabby/ rusty outdoor toys/ children's bikes/ items of garden furniture or tools proped in the middle of the drive with a ripped bit of cardboard made into a for sale sign and an extortionate for what it is price.

What's that about?

LadyOfTheCanyon · 08/11/2018 17:01

These are brilliant. Bin Bag girl has made me boggle a bit. That could go on forever - isn't her mum worried about the bin bag getting wet??

My commute is a short drive or mostly I walk. Every day I see the same lady walking in the opposite direction, dressed head to toe > in various shades of green. No other colours. Ever.

She looks cheery, in an odd way and I look for her now waiting to see her wear a colour other than green Grin

Great thread

I often get a woman on my commute filing her nails. 1) Surely her nails don’t need filing quite so often and 2) Eugh

A woman opposite me on the tube plucking her eyebrows

WhatwouldRuthdo · 08/11/2018 18:35

I’ve had a woman opposite on the train painstakingly tablespooning her eyebrows. Wish I’d asked her why.

SuperStellaElla · 08/11/2018 18:36

A lady in full Edwardian dress who regularly walks down Kentish Town High Street

HeyToTheHo · 08/11/2018 18:46

@whatwouldruthdo what is tablespooning eyebrows?

WhatwouldRuthdo · 08/11/2018 18:48

@HeyToTheHo she was rubbing her eyebrows with a tablespoon...

HeyToTheHo · 08/11/2018 18:49

Weird

cantstopfreaking · 08/11/2018 18:49

I once saw a lorry driver on the motorway driving along having a full on shave with an electric razor.
Mind boggling.
I also see a lady most days walking to work carrying a kids plastic plate with toast on!

Strawberrybelly · 08/11/2018 18:54

I don't see anything interesting on my commute. I'm very jealous.

InProgress · 08/11/2018 18:58

I've pulled up alongside the Mystery Machine at the traffic lights. Made my day.

molamoob · 08/11/2018 18:59

We once saw a guy in a khaki morph suit stumble out of the bushes and cross the road ahead of us into another or of bushes - we each had to check the other had actually witnessed it as it was so bizarre.

Sparklesandglitter · 08/11/2018 18:59

I travel the same route roughly 4-5 times per week and 99% of the time regardless of when I travel (ranging from first thing to early evening) I see the same woman walking down the road. She appears to walk at least 3-4 miles as it is a very long road and I would love to know where she is going to or coming from! There is no pattern to time or day it's just every time I drive that way I see her walking!

MrsFrisbyMouse · 08/11/2018 19:00

I saw this yesterday...

What odd things do you see on your commute?
Mailfuckoff · 08/11/2018 19:04

I drive down a single track lane. Lots of pheasents this time of year and the occasional dear, squrrial or rabbit

Toomuchadoaboutnothing · 08/11/2018 19:07

I go past a house that has a life size Elvis statue with the jet black quiff, dressed in a bright yellow suit in their front garden. At Christmas they put a Santa hat on him and some tinsel round his neck.
I just can’t help believn they’re bonkers 😁😁😁

3in4years · 08/11/2018 19:09

My commute is up a country lane so we see tractors, livestock, birds of prey. We also frequently see cows giving birth!
