Too embarassed for work tomorrow

I've just had an 'organic perm'. Nothing like what I expected and it's way more obvious than I'd hoped.

And I have that same horrible feeling as I did so many years ago when I'd be embarrassed to go to the school the day after a bad haircut!

Probably the first thing people will say is something along the lines of "WTF, have you had a perm?" (in a large open plan office) and I just don't want to admit that I have even though it's obvious.

Any advice or bad hair stories welcome!

Can you tie it up in a messy bun? I'm sure it looks fine!

Lucylugs · 07/11/2018 21:18

Could you put it up or tie back so it's not too obvious for a few days until people get used to it being bit different?

cakedup · 07/11/2018 21:20

Yes I will try and put it up somehow although I never have my hair off my face completely usually so even that will attract attention.

I'm really not usually so vain but I think that's the problem! I feel so self conscious. It would be different if it was Jenny in accounts who has different hairstyles, colours and even wigs every other week.

Bring in some cake or cookies or croissants and everyone will pay attention to those instead.

You could also try to get in a bit earlier so you're already at your desk rather than walking in when most others are already in situ.

SuperstarDJ · 07/11/2018 21:22

When are you allowed to wash it? Hopefully it won’t look so obvious once washed.

Tattandthis · 07/11/2018 21:23

Let's see (with your face covered)

Santaispolishinghissleigh · 07/11/2018 21:23

Tell them you have also changed your name to Kevina!!

cakedup · 07/11/2018 21:23

LockedOutOfMN no I feel that would draw even more attention to me! However, getting in early is a really good idea, I'll definitely do that.

Can you do deadpan?

"What perm? Are you all right?"
"This is my natural hair"
"What? I had it done 3 weeks ago and you notice today?"

Are you sure people will notice and comment??

cakedup · 07/11/2018 21:24

SuperstarDJ I'm not supposed to wash it for 48 hours.

Tattandthis argh I forgot to say in my original op that I'm not going to take any photos so please don't ask!

Style it out with a jaunty hat or headscarf?

Carlyrichards · 07/11/2018 21:25

I misread your OP and thought you said "orgasmic" perm 🙄😂

cakedup · 07/11/2018 21:26

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse I can do deadpan actually! Thing is, my hair already had a bit of a natural curl in it so I could say something like I had a treatment that brought back it's natural curl. Maybe.

PaintingOwls · 07/11/2018 21:26

Just have a shower and it'll wash out.

cakedup · 07/11/2018 21:27

Carlyrichards I'm feeling far from orgasmic right now!

ChinUpShouldersBack again, as I never wear hats/headscarves I think it will end up drawing attention.

BabiaMajora · 07/11/2018 21:28

Can you put a similar photo up from google images so we can see what you mean. I’m sure it’s nowhere near as bad as you think.🙂

cakedup · 07/11/2018 21:28

PaintingOwls what the perm will wash out??

OP posts:
KirstyJC · 07/11/2018 21:29

Just front it out - plaster a massive grin on your face and run up to everyone saying 'hey do you like my new perm? Isn't it amazing? I can't believe how wonderful it looks?!' and spend the rest of the day twirling and flicking your hair like you're in a shampoo advert.

Even if they hate it, they won't say after that!

Carlyrichards · 07/11/2018 21:31

Sorry Caked I know that wasn't helpful. If you really hate it, wash it and then blow dry it straight if you can.

PaintingOwls · 07/11/2018 21:32

Idk, I'm just going off the Legally Blonde court case

KrispyKremes · 07/11/2018 21:33

I had this a couple of months back with a hair dye which took waaaaay brighter than I was expecting it to.

Dreaded the first day!

People are of course always very nice and said how lovey it was. But I was just honest like "I didn't want it this lairy, but it'll dull down soon."

Then by the next day we'd moved onto something else. X

DullBrianfromHull · 07/11/2018 21:33

It should will drop.

SuperstarDJ · 07/11/2018 21:35

I think if you wash it before 48hrs then yes, it will lose some of the curl.
Disclaimer: it could end up looking worse.

Are you sure it doesn’t actually look really nice but you’re just really a bit self- conscious because it looks different? And it looks very different to you but may not look that different to others?

cakedup · 07/11/2018 21:37

I was expecting it to be more like the lady in the light top. But ended up getting it more like the lady in the darker top, except bigger and worse. Apparently, the curls drop down a bit in a couple of weeks though.

How have you not seen Legally Blonde and therefore know if you wash it out it won't work?! Just wash it. Then download the film, it's amazing.
