What to do with bl**dy body lotion?

For reasons unknown, I have an entire DRAWER in my bathroom full of f*cking body lotion and it's really annoying me.

I don't use the stuff (I'm a talc girl, TBH), I don't buy it, so where has all this sh*t come from? And, more importantly, how do I get rid of it?

The containers are plastic, so can be recycled, but need to be emptied first, I presume: can it be flushed down the loo?

The simple fact that it's there is making my teeth itch.

Can you not offer it to a local woman's shelter if it's unused?

cjt110 · 07/11/2018 14:48

If they're unused can you donate to a local food bank?

martingoresnipplechain · 07/11/2018 14:52

I tend to get given this sort of tat for Christmas and birthdays (despite having told mother in law people that I really don't use that much of it). I gifted most of it to a charity to use as raffle prizes as it was all unopened, but would suggest a women's refuge may take it too.

Donate it to an autumn/winter fair type thing, where it can join all the other unwanted body lotions donated by everyone else.

Tell whichever friends and relatives that bought you it that you're not doing presents this year and will go No Contact with anyone who gives you a Boots Shitey Gift set for Christmas (only partly joking).

YellowStickies · 07/11/2018 14:54

I have a similar problem, a drawer full of conditioners from box dyes after years of dying my hair. Not a clue what to do with them, every option feels wrong.

ThistleAmore · 07/11/2018 14:59

Unfortunately, half of them seem to be opened (body lotion has an unerring knack for turning up at Christmas, coinciding with the 'New Year, new me, I will be an oiled and silky goddess' period), so obviously I've tried it, got bored, didn't do it again.

Is there anybody out there who has ever actually used a full bottle of body lotion?

I'm astounded you don't use it! I feel like a snake in the middle of losing its skin if I don't use it at least once a day.

RavenLG · 07/11/2018 15:02

Don’t tip them down a loo that’s such a bloody waste. Do you have any free stuff groups on Facebook? I often see half used toiletries snatched up by people who otherwise couldn’t afford a nice bit of lotion.

Lonesurvivor · 07/11/2018 15:06

I'm the same, have loads here and most opened for same reasons as you but I've really good soft skin and body lotion is no addition so eventually I stop using it.
But I've started to use it on my feet, body butter in particular is fab for softening skin there and feet tend to use up way more lotion/butter than the rest of my body!

ThistleAmore · 07/11/2018 15:08

@RavenLG - that's a good idea! Would people take it, though? Are other people's (slightly) used toiletries not a bit...skanky, or am I too precious?

I've never used body lotion at all ever. My skin seems fine. Maybe the facebook giveaway group is the way to go.

ThistleAmore · 07/11/2018 15:13

@BarbaraofSeville, my skin is okay, too - seems to, you know, keep the wet out and the internal organs in, not too scaly or anything.

Also, I LOATHE the 'tacky' feeling of trying to put clothes on after using it.

I can't help feeling that (unless one has unusually dry skin or some kind of chronic skin condition), the need to lotion one's body is one of those weird time-wasting pups that women have been sold. I blame the patriarchy. Wink

Bin it.

How can anybody enjoy smearing themselves in cold, chemical smelling grease I'll never understand.

It's just such a shame for the environment but it's impossible to recycle the muck.

MaxPepsi · 07/11/2018 15:20

I need to use it. I've got terrible dry skin.

Random, but can you take it to work and leave in the toilets or by the sinks, for people to use as hand lotion?

And if you get any more gifted, keep it separate and donate to women's shelter/Food bank before opening it.

Lindie67 · 07/11/2018 15:21

That’s really made me laugh! So know what you mean

TheNavigator · 07/11/2018 15:22

Send it to me! I never have enough, if I don't use it after I shower I am scaly and dry.

RavenLG · 07/11/2018 15:25

I’ve seen loads of people take it, but I’m a few groups where people are fleeing dv etc and haven’t a penny to their name so a bit of fancy smelling lotion could be a real treat. And the group I’m in is has a very strong “keep things out of the landfill” ethos too. I love a bit of smelly chemicals GrinGrin

LaurieFairyCake · 07/11/2018 15:26

I love body lotion! I use it every day! Defo offer it on Facebook Smile

HelenOfTory · 07/11/2018 15:28

At the risk of getting flamed on here, chuck it in the bin.

And if you get any more, don't open it; give it to the food bank or drop it off at the charity shop.

HRTpatch · 07/11/2018 15:30

I use it every day! Have done for about 30 years.

Spaghettio · 07/11/2018 15:33

I also had this situation. I went on the school run and gave a bottle to everyone I encountered. It cheered them up to be given a present for no reason, and it cheered me to clear out an entire shelf in my bathroom storage!

BarbaraofSevillle · 07/11/2018 15:34

My city has no landfill, all non recyclable waste is incinerated in a waste to energy incinerator. I use this fact to allow guilt free disposal of anything that I do not want, is not recyclable, not good enough to sell or send to charity and I cannot be arsed giving away via Facebook etc. I tried to sign up to Freecycle years ago, but it was too difficult for reasons I cannot remember.

donkeysandzebras · 07/11/2018 15:48

Do you have DC? Next time they're bored and need a craft activity, empty it all into a massive bowl/tray and let them play with it.
