Why don’t they make lunchboxes like I remember?

In the 90s everyone had a rectangular lunchbox with matching flask with cartoons/toys/film characters on. Where did these go? DS is 4 and the fabricy one he has comes back from school absolutely minging every day. I want one I can easily wash out. Sistema ones are fine but they don’t have handles. He’d love one of the old-school ones with Octonauts on if they still made them!

They’re definitely not what they used to be!
I remember when Jurassic Park came out and I had a pack lunch box that roared when you opened it.

Dementedswan · 06/11/2018 18:16

I think you can still buy them from e bay

NancyDonahue · 06/11/2018 18:21

I had a snoopy one with matching flask. Shame they don't make them anymore.

You can wash the fabric ones in the washing machine.

I had a Polly Pocket one which was in the shape of a love heart. The clip of it was really tricky to open, I only used it a few weeks before going back to my trusty my little pony number.

Those were the days 😌

Oh and my dcs had plain boxes inside the fabric ones to try and keep them cleaner.

Smsmeeesmeghhhehead · 06/11/2018 18:22

My children have them...i bought vintage off of ebay. Love them... no more smells and they are indestructible

VintageScarfLady · 06/11/2018 18:29

My friend had a very lovely Forever Friends one in a lovely peach colour, I was on school dinners so never had one myself ☹️

nancy we have got a plastic one inside the fabric bag (the fabric one does have a handle) but he still manages to get the squishy elements of his lunch all over both!

sms I’ll have a look on eBay, ta!

There's a gap in the market here for some budding entrepreneur.

I did have a great one that I bought abroad. It was basically a larger tupperware type box with a little handle. It had sections you could take out and wash easily. The handle fell off after years of use. Wish I'd bought more.

I had an Ed the duck one when he was the Olympic mascot. I currrbtly have a wonder woman metal lunchbox which is ok.

If you order from dementedpixies link then you can use wall decals of your dcs favourite character to stick on the front

Thanks everyone!

I wondered if the use of plastics was why they’re not made in the same way that they used to be, but there’s a billion other toys/containers/lunchboxes that are still made of plastic so it would be weird for lunchboxes to be singled out. I remember them so clearly, all the kids on packed lunches had them!

OMG I had that snoopy flask! It had a cup on top of it (which is missing in the photo), like a proper thermos.
