Applied for perfect job yesterday, can anyone hold my hand through the process?!

Just that really. Spotted job late Thursday night, barely slept as so excited, spent all Friday morning applying.

It’s an ‘exactly what I’ve been looking for but didn’t know existed’ situation. I’ve wanted to move into another field and sector that I have some of the experience for but not all that’s usually required for these roles (I’m also studying in this field to improve my chances) and this role is an amalgam of lots things I’m already great at and enjoy, with the things I’m currently learning, and isn’t asking for much experience - just enough that I’m actually a really credible candidate. It’s mostly personal competenacies and skills that I definitely have.

It’s the perfect organisation, in a sensibly commutable place, not paying much less than I’m currently on (was expecting a pay cut as trying to move from the private sector to not-for-profit) basically it looks made for me.

I sent the keenest application ever, including a supporting letter they didn’t ask for. Now it’s all I can think about and I’ve got to get through the weekend at a minimum before I’ll know anything. It doesn’t close until next weekend but they’ve said they’re interviewing throughout the process as they want some ASAP.... I’m usually so pragmatic when it comes to job hunting and very ‘what will be willl be’ but I’ll be so upset if they don’t at least interview me.

Happy to hold your hand.

Assume you could start ASAP if you were offered or do you have to give quite a bit of notice where you are?

rubyslippers83 · 03/11/2018 07:42

I’m with you and also going through exactly the same process. I had an interview on Tuesday, but was told they were holding other interviews later in the week so I wouldn’t hear until Friday or even Monday. I spent yesterday glued to my phone, but didn’t receive a phone call. Have resigned myself to the fact that it will be Monday now and the weekend is going to be torture. Wishing us both luck! Smile

Thanks all! I could start pretty much straight away, maximum notice I’d have to give would be 3 weeks. If they met me and offered this week I could start the following.

Good luck Ruby it’s horrible isn’t it

Hi Buffalo... Hand hold from me: I’m in a similar situation too, although a few weeks further on... I have an interview in a couple of weeks (process is taking aggggeeesssss)

Lots of luck to all of us!!

OliviaStabler · 03/11/2018 09:19

I remember going for one job I desperately wanted and I practiced my answers so much I must have looked like a loon walking round the house talking to myself for hours.

rubyslippers83 · 03/11/2018 09:44

Good luck to you too Aaahhwooooo fingers crossed for all of us Xx

BuffaloCauliflower · 03/11/2018 12:06

Luckily I know I’m good at interviewing, so they don’t hugely worry me. I’m just hoping everything I got down on the application was good enough.

The good thing is it sounds like they are moving at pace so you should know soon

BuffaloCauliflower · 04/11/2018 07:41

Yes I don’t think I’ll have to wait too long to know.
Not helped by the fact we were planning to TTC this month and now I’m thinking that’ll be best put on hold if I got the job. Kept checking my emails and junk folder all yesterday, goodness’s knows why, I KNOW they’re not going to email me on Saturday!

I had an interview at the beginning of Oct, asked when I was likely to hear anything

“Hopefully by the ed of the month” I could have sobbed.

23 long impairment days later I git offered the job. Dream job and am still grinning.

Good luck!

Remember “ she believed she could so she did”

EATmum · 04/11/2018 08:02

Good luck - I hope they move quickly.

BuffaloCauliflower · 04/11/2018 08:43

Redtartan Oh my goodness I’d be losing my mind! Hopefully the fact they’ve said they want someone soon means I won’t be waiting too long. Well done though, can you send some of that good luck over here please?

I would suggest calling on Monday to find out a bit more about the role. Even if you don't need to know. It's really helpful to flesh out your application and make you more than just a couple of sheets of A4 when they shortlist. I've found it really helpful in the past to guide my answers at interview too (as they often give indications of key projects etc). Good luck!

BuffaloCauliflower · 04/11/2018 10:11

I’ve already submitted the application so I can’t change it now. It was a CV and a form with some space for info, I also sent an additional letter better outlining my fit for the person spec. All the documents should align pretty well with the main points I think they’ll be looking for (I recruit people so have a good idea of how an application will be aligned with the spec when it’s being assessed.

But yes I might also call on Tuesday if I haven’t heard anything

Any news OP?

BuffaloCauliflower · 10/11/2018 09:16

I had an email on Thursday saying

Hi BuffaloCauliflower,

Thanks so much for your application and your interest in working for [perfect company].

We are reviewing your application as a team and will get back to you shortly.

Thanks so much,

[name of lady who should really give me the job]

But nothing else yet. The official closing date isn’t until today but they did say they wanted to move quicker. Emotionally preparing myself for the no so I’m not surprised when it comes.

OP posts:
Redtartanshoes · 10/11/2018 11:41

Tbh I think most companies will wait until the closing date otherwise it complicates things and it unfair.

I think you’ll hear something Tuesday/Wednesday next week

BuffaloCauliflower · 13/11/2018 13:32

I’ve got a phone interview on Thursday! Just a 10-15 minutes ‘to get to know me’ they’ve said. Don’t want to get my hopes up but fingers crossed. For various reasons if this isn’t the one I need to start actively looking for other things so I hope they decide to meet me soon after the call 😬

OP posts:
FemaleFootballFan · 13/11/2018 18:08

Good luck OP!

BuffaloCauliflower · 15/11/2018 14:04

I think it went ok. We had a good rapport, I answered as well and as honestly as I could. She said they were discussing the people she’d spoken to today before deciding who to interview face to face next week. So fingers crossed. Feel more anxious afterwards than I did before!
