Applied for perfect job yesterday, can anyone hold my hand through the process?!

Just that really. Spotted job late Thursday night, barely slept as so excited, spent all Friday morning applying.

It’s an ‘exactly what I’ve been looking for but didn’t know existed’ situation. I’ve wanted to move into another field and sector that I have some of the experience for but not all that’s usually required for these roles (I’m also studying in this field to improve my chances) and this role is an amalgam of lots things I’m already great at and enjoy, with the things I’m currently learning, and isn’t asking for much experience - just enough that I’m actually a really credible candidate. It’s mostly personal competenacies and skills that I definitely have.

It’s the perfect organisation, in a sensibly commutable place, not paying much less than I’m currently on (was expecting a pay cut as trying to move from the private sector to not-for-profit) basically it looks made for me.

I sent the keenest application ever, including a supporting letter they didn’t ask for. Now it’s all I can think about and I’ve got to get through the weekend at a minimum before I’ll know anything. It doesn’t close until next weekend but they’ve said they’re interviewing throughout the process as they want some ASAP.... I’m usually so pragmatic when it comes to job hunting and very ‘what will be willl be’ but I’ll be so upset if they don’t at least interview me.

They want me in for a face to face interview! Eek now I’m excited and I don’t want to get my hopes up too much.

Best of luck!!! Be confident!

Oh I just read the full thread, very best of luck to you! When's the interview and do you know what you're going to wear?

Eek good luck op!

JingsMahBucket · 16/11/2018 08:14

Fingers crossed for you!

TashieWoo · 16/11/2018 08:19

Well done, fingers crossed for you!

I’m joining this thread as I am in a similar position although I applied yesterday and the closing date is today, so I haven’t heard anything yet apart from a holding email. Also have applied for a couple of jobs via an agency, but the one I applied for myself would be perfect in terms of location and career progression. Although the salary hasn’t been advertised so that’s a bit of a concern.

I don’t really want to leave my current company but I am vastly underpaid and my role is being pushed into something I don’t really want to do, and I think my skills are better used elsewhere. I’ve told my new boss that many times but he isn’t listening so I’m offski.

Let’s hope that we will both be starting perfect new jobs soon!

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/11/2018 08:55

Thanks all, and good luck Tashie!

Not sure what I’ll wear - probably a navy dress, boots and a cardigan. Having been working in the private sector I’m not sure how relaxed I can go for a charity, I’d think less super smart but still well presented. I’ve been working from home all year so I’m kind of out of office wear mode

Interview is tomorrow

That outfit sounds perfect, Buffalo. I spent most of my working life in the charity sector and "smart casual was definitely the preferred look. Fingers crossed for tomorrow, and good luck to Tashie* too.

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/11/2018 14:13

Thanks Bloodybridget. It might be a slightly more casual black patterned dress as I fear I may be a bit fat for the navy dress! I’ll see how I get on in the morning. I’m quite comfortable finding that line of smart but not too smart.

Trying to think of possible answers for any ‘tell us about a time you did xyz* questions. Anyone have any hints of the sort of questions they might ask? I’m not very well practiced for competency interviews (though I’m sure I’m very competent!)

OP posts:
figelnarage · 18/11/2018 14:57

Do you have a list of the competencies for the role?

MoorMummy · 18/11/2018 15:00

Google STAR, for competency based interview tips. Best of luck Buffalo I’ll say a little prayer for you. 😉

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/11/2018 18:48

Thank you! I had a very detailed role/person spec but no specifics competencies. Yeh I’ve done STAR based competency interviews before, I find them really clinical, just talk to me! I also have a terrible memory which doesn’t help. But I’m sure it will be fine. I am a really good fit for what they want to hopefully will get that across.

BuffaloCauliflower · 19/11/2018 16:00

Well I think that went ok. I was myself, I was honest. Can’t really do much more now! They should let me know by early next week as they’re meeting a few other people this.

Bloodybridget · 19/11/2018 17:09

I'll be watching the thread and hoping for good news!

Tisahardlife · 19/11/2018 20:52

Good luck, you've done your best and you can't do more than that.

blaaake · 19/11/2018 20:57

Good luck!! Thanks

MoorMummy · 19/11/2018 21:49

Sounds positive ! Fingers crossed.

BuffaloCauliflower · 19/11/2018 23:20

Yeh all I can do is my best, and hope I’m the best one they meet. I’m hopefully but pragmatic!

OP posts:
SavageBeauty73 · 19/11/2018 23:49

Good luck!!

BuffaloCauliflower · 26/11/2018 21:45

So I’ve got another meeting with them tomorrow, a coffee so not super formal. Which means I wasn’t the standout and they’re still umming and ahhing - they said they’d only do another round if there wasn’t a clear front runner. So good they want me again, but not sure what they’ll ask or what I can add. Feeling more nervous now tbh, not sure what they’ll ask for this round. It’s one of the people I met before and someone new. I’d emotionally resigned myself to a no, so fingers crossed I guess!

OP posts:
JadziaSnax · 26/11/2018 21:48

Good luck Flowers

Ariela · 26/11/2018 23:30

Good luck tomorrow.

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/11/2018 07:47

Thank you. I’m not well at all which is a total pain - sore throat, headache. I’d quite like to stay in bed but will have to rally myself

Aspirin, big girl pants and a dazzling smile.
You know you can do it.
Good luck.
