Went to see this last night and just wow. Don't think I've ever say through a movie that gave me chills quite like that did.
Would love to know how they time travelled Brian May and John Deacon for this because they were outstandingly good.

Anyone else seen it and loved it?

the luckiest and sonnybo I'm going back to watch again and I never watch films/read books twice but this one's made such an impact on me.

Corfu06 · 28/10/2018 22:17

I have just got home from the cinema and LOVED it. One of the best films I have seen in a long, long time. Cried at the end (and so did my boyfriend who never cries). I’m going to watch it again tomorrow it was so good

theluckiest · 29/10/2018 17:21

Going again with the DH & DC tonight! Really looking forward to it...

(shamofamockery GrinI can confirm that he is a very lovely bloke!)

theluckiest · 30/10/2018 00:19

Well, DC loved it. Was a bit worried about some of the more adult themes but they were very wise and sensible...

I think I was more worried about DHs reaction tbh. He's a massive film buff and an even bigger Queen fan so suspected he might hate it. I was totally wrong. He said that it was really just a 2 hour Queen love-in. And 'that's fine by him'. He loved it. He also suspects that Brian May has made a pact with the devil as the film version was clearly him....Grin

iklboogiemanunderthebed · 30/10/2018 15:40

Loved it! Such a good film.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 30/10/2018 16:20

What are the difference from real life?
The main one is Freddie being diagnosed 18 months early and telling the band before live aid instead of 1987.

Apart from that is there any other major timeline changes?

amusedbush · 30/10/2018 16:35

I wanted to see it but even the advert puts me right off. The guy who plays Freddie is in Mr Robot and his face is so distinctive I can’t see anyone else. Add in those huge comedy teeth and... I just can’t see past it!

Maybe if I just went and tried to ignore that I’d get into it.

Kezzie200 · 30/10/2018 16:54

I think Brian May released solo work before Freddie too.

I loved the film. I didnt learn anything i didnt already know and, so, to that end I guess critics wish they had. I think it would have been an even more emotional film if they finished at Knebworth when he knew it was a final performance. But it wasnt a documentary, it was a movie and Live Aid was huge. The casting was excellent and Maliks stage presence amazing. I dont think the film was edgy enough for him to get an Oscar but acted someone who I thought would be impossible to emulate.

Kezzie200 · 30/10/2018 16:56

Oh and Mary dated Brian May first. Thats how Freddie first knew her.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 30/10/2018 17:04

I love watching behind the scene stuff as you can see what a bromance Roger and Freddie had.
m.youtube.com/watch?v=EmzS5CsHXX4
In the radio gaga video outtakes Freddie is cracking Roger.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 30/10/2018 17:13

Cracking Roger up*

Stereomum · 30/10/2018 21:49

Amazing, loved it. One of the best films I've ever seven.

EBearhug · 30/10/2018 23:01

I think Brian May released solo work before Freddie too.

Starfleet (Brian) was 1983. Mr Bad Guy (Freddie) was 1985.

I have them both on vinyl.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 30/10/2018 23:59

I saw it last night and enjoyed it. Very tearful at the end and a few sniffles in between. Some very touching moments.

But I didn't love it. It dragged a bit at times and I wasn't entirely convinced by the star.

Anyone trying to "be" someone whose appearance and movements are so distinctive is bound to struggle.

Rami Malek does an absolutely brilliant job but he's not Freddie. I wondered if I were being picky but I've been watching Queen on YouTube for hours today and I was right.

But it's a lovely film and any Queen fan will greatly enjoy it.

SilentIsla · 31/10/2018 00:26

Rami Malek is an amazing actor. For those who liked FM - and I didn’t - be grateful the lead from Mr Robot was given the part. 🙂

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 31/10/2018 05:34

Also Roger also had the Strange Frontier album out before Freddie's solo album.

placebobebo · 31/10/2018 05:56

Watched it. Loved it. As with all films a certain amount of artistic license has been taken but all that has done is stirred more interest in the group and its music and history.

EBearhug · 31/10/2018 10:48

Also Roger also had the Strange Frontier album out before Freddie's solo album.

That’s true. I think Roger's solo stuff is mostly best not mentioned, though. Grin

LAlady · 31/10/2018 12:27

Saw it last Thursday. Emotional but fabulous film. Would like to see it again

wheresmyhairytoe · 31/10/2018 12:34

Can I ask is it very loud?
DS desperate to see it but has ASD and we only ever go to the autism friendly showings of stuff as he struggles with noise.
I've no idea if this will get a special screening though and he's so obsessed with Freddie.

EBearhug · 31/10/2018 19:37

It didn't seem too loud to me, but obviously there is quite a bit of noise at times. And it could depend on the cinema itself?

Have you asked your usual cinema if they will be doing an autism-friendly showing?

Runnynosehunny · 31/10/2018 19:48

Its not that loud and the louder bits are mainly music, which your DS might find easier.

For me I loved the film overall, but think the one flaw which bothered me was that it did seem to miss out some of the camaraderie of the band and Freddie, compared to the amount of time when they seemed to be acting disapproving of his lifestyle. In reality they all enjoyed a lot of partying and still created some amazing music, and it was only much later that became a problem for Freddie. I think its because they had to condense so many years into a short film.
But that is only a small criticism as it really is a good film and I enjoyed it very much.

Jojoanna · 31/10/2018 20:14

I loved it

Mhw02 · 31/10/2018 20:32

@Prawnofthepatriarchy I felt exactly the same. I've always loved Queen, and I enjoyed the film, but felt it could have been a bit bolder, a bit more experimental, like the band itself was.

And Rami Malek for me just wasn't Freddie Mercury. He seemed very young, and for me, didn't have Mercury's physical presence.

Having said that...the Live Aid scenes were awesome. I came out of the cinema thinking how incredible it must have been to have been at that concert, seeing Queen making musical history.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 31/10/2018 20:55

I watched Live Aid on a big TV (for the time) in the south London pub I was working in. Lucky me, as I didn't have a TV at home at the time. It was an amazing day.
