Obscure songs

I was in the kitchen earlier chatting with dc when I got a random song in my head. So then I start singing it only for my son to look at me like I'd gone mad.

The song was Peaches by The Presidents of the United States of America.

It goes "Movin' to the country, gonna eat a lot of peaches. Movin' to the country, gonna eat me a lot of peaches."

I seem to recall it came out in the mid-90s.

Let's play a game of what obscure songs do people remember 😊

Vicious
You hit me with a flower
You do it every hour
Oh, baby, you're so vicious

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 22/10/2018 20:57

Oops, that’s Viciousby Lou Reed

rightreckoner · 22/10/2018 20:58

Love that Peaches song.

TalkInRiddles · 22/10/2018 20:59

I've never heard that one Judas. Might have a Google, see if it rings any bells

I don't know that song at all Judas, but I have to say it's very good. Could listen to it on repeat

Two Divided By Zero, first song on the first Pet Shop Boys album. Should have been a single! 'Tomorrow morning we'll be miles away, on another continent and another day' has always been a brilliant line.

ShirleyPhallus · 22/10/2018 21:33

That “yyoooouuuuu’re gorgeous, id do anything for you!” song

And also Wonderwall, but the really crap version by the guy who had a one hit wonder with it

TalkInRiddles · 22/10/2018 21:36

Ah Shirley, that was the Mike Flowers version. It was so cheesy 😁😁😁

Self Control by Laura Branigan

Oh, the night is my world
City light painted girl
In the day nothing matters
It's the night time that flatters
In the night, no control
Through the wall something's breaking
Wearing white as you're walkin'
Down the street of my soul

You take my self, you take my self control
You got me livin' only for the night
Before the morning comes, the story's told
You take my self, you take my self control

I often get Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots by Flaming Lips stuck in my head.

goforkyourself · 22/10/2018 22:09

Random mid nineties songs are the best. I remember this beauty:

TalkInRiddles · 22/10/2018 23:04

@gofork - I have such fond memories of that song. Me and my brother trying to sing it in our deepest voices 😂 they were one-hit wonders weren't they?

I have Vibeology stuck in my head. Not sure if it's obscure? Grin

Grimtimes · 22/10/2018 23:11

OP..that just made me howl...I was standing woodwork in our new house when Peaches came on my Spotify. My FIL looked at me really strangely as I sang away. It is THE most bizarre song but I love it!

Grimtimes · 22/10/2018 23:13

I love Birthday by the sugarcubes...Bjork at her finest and I can screech to it well!

DontFuckingSayIt · 22/10/2018 23:14

Millions of peaches!

ShovingLeopard · 22/10/2018 23:16

I love Self Control!

Also, 'Where have all the cowboys gone?' by Paula Cole.

GraveyardScapers · 22/10/2018 23:18

I was singing this yesterday

We count only blue cars
Skip the cracks in the street and ask
Many questions like children often do
We said tell me all your thoughts on god
Cause I’d really like to meet her
And ask her why we’re who we are...

It’s called Counting Blue Cars, by Dishwalla. Was it popular in the UK? It’s somewhat obscure where I come from Smile

PhilODox · 22/10/2018 23:20

You're Gorgeous and Peaches aren't particularly obscure songs though..m

For Spacious Lies by Beats International- now that's obscure.

Spongeface · 22/10/2018 23:40

I get a song I don't know who it's by that I try and get people to remember with me... No one ever does. Think it was on a smash hits tape free in the 90's...
A hundred pound for diet coke
And I went there BINGO! and I found out... Yes I discovered BINGO! what the fuss was about..

Repeat until someone stops me. That's all I know. No one else knows it. Wee band three lads.

Spongeface · 22/10/2018 23:40

Ps peaches is an ace song

TalkInRiddles · 23/10/2018 12:24

I have no idea about that last one Spongeface. You said wee band, 3 lads and all I get in my head was that boy band 911. Wasn't them was it?

OP posts:
TalkInRiddles · 23/10/2018 12:28

@Spongeface is this it?

Candy Store from Heathers the musical. I think your mileage may vary on this one being obscure. If you’re into modern musical theatre then it probably won’t be, but it’s not exactly something being played on the radio regularly either. It’s been stuck in my head for weeks now.
