Obscure songs

I was in the kitchen earlier chatting with dc when I got a random song in my head. So then I start singing it only for my son to look at me like I'd gone mad.

The song was Peaches by The Presidents of the United States of America.

It goes "Movin' to the country, gonna eat a lot of peaches. Movin' to the country, gonna eat me a lot of peaches."

I seem to recall it came out in the mid-90s.

Let's play a game of what obscure songs do people remember 😊

PhiloDox - I LOVE For Spacious Lies by Beats International!!! I thought I was the only person who liked it
I was briefly penpals in the late 80s/early 90s with Lester Noel, the singer. He was lovely! Met them all at a gig in my hometown... Happy days.

@DoctorTwo
I still love "99 per cent of gargoyles look like Bob Todd" Very occasionally I hear something and realise that it's the origin of a random HMHB song.

@PhilODox @Bluesavannahsong For Spacious Lies! OMG. I remember the first time I heard it on The Chart Show on a Saturday morning, it made me cry I loved it so much. It's still an amazing song. No one I've met remembers it, even my husband who has an (almost!) encyclopedic knowledge of music. I have found my people ❤

While I'm here, has anyone ever heard a funk/jazz song that's made up of James Bond film titles? I heard it in 1992 so is from before then. I've looked for years to no avail. No, I wasn't on glue 😁

@MissionItsPossible I used to love Jack off Jill in my yoof!! Totally forgot about them. My Cat was ace 😁

Also to the pp who mentioned Kill The Sex Player - makes me think of the Clerks movie

Clouds across the Moon by the Rah Band - the talky bit, 'oh, is there someone there with you?' 'I'll call again next year' - is absolutely late 70s barking. But love the melody.

@Keeoe @PhilODox - we've definitely found our people ♥️♥️♥️.
We should start a 'For Spacious Lies' club .
Wonder if Norman Cook even remembers it?!

@BayTrees enjoy. I still love it too, it reminds me of being young and it being the only song my then GF liked on John Peel's radio show. She bought me the album for my birthday. :o

DoctorTwo · 24/10/2018 22:24

Oops, forgot the link! Blush

BayTrees · 24/10/2018 22:36

Love it. I still feel the joy of buying the CD and FINDING THE LYRICS.

IndigoSpritz · 26/10/2018 18:45

Together We Are Beautiful by Fern Kinney might be considered obscure in the U.S. As far as I know it barely charted there but it was a number one in the UK.

I have some obscure vinyl singles. One is called 'Again' by Jimmy Tarbuck. The other is a 12" single of a Neil Diamond song called 'Let Me Take You In My Arms Again', by The Martell Brothers. Goodness knows who they were. I should make it clear that I bought both out of curiosity rather than artistic merit. They are both terrible but one of them made the charts.

Elflocks · 28/10/2018 13:49

Right Said Fred and Hole in the Ground both covers by Bernard Cribbins.

Elflocks · 28/10/2018 13:54

I Want an Alien for Christmas.

secretmeetingsundertrees · 28/10/2018 14:00

Cocolepew · 28/10/2018 14:08

Oakie from Muskogee Confused
DH randomly sings it and now I do too Hmm

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 28/10/2018 14:17

The Chicken Song from Spitting Image comes into my mind way too frequently for comfort. Also:
Suddenly by Cliff Richard and Olivia Newton John
I Think I'll Always Love You by Victy Silva
Stay With Me Til Dawn - Judie Tzuke

Elflocks · 28/10/2018 15:03
