If you have a fabric sofa, and it isn't grey...

...then what colour is it, please?

I've been staring and staring at sofas until my brain is scrambled and I've forgotten what normal living rooms look like.

Don't want leather or grey. Ivory walls and wood floors, a clean slate.

What is a normal sofa, please?

Sands

silkpyjamasallday · 23/10/2018 09:46

Ours is golden yellow, the fabric is a thick woven silk and the very slight sheen makes it look very different depending on the light. Our walls are pale grey as our flat is rented, but the rest of the furniture/rugs etc are either predominantly yellow or red. It does mark easily, but despite the 'dry clean only' labels it has withstood the cushions being machine washed and vanish on the body of the sofa where there have been spills. I do have a big red William Morris print quilt wrapped around the seat cushions, great for hiding stains and easier to bung in the wash Wink

Can I just advise incase you didn’t know to get foam not fibre I spend my life plumping up lifeless cushions on my very expensive sofa that I’ve only had for 12 months , wish someone had told me !

Andthentherewere5 Who did your reupholstering? I just had a quote of over £2k Shock (and that's with a 20% discount) for a 3 seater, large armchair and footstool.

Andthentherewere5 · 23/10/2018 14:24

@poster SignOnTheWindow. Sorry it’s in Leicester but I bet if you google upholstery in your areas you will have quite a choice. He had a HUGE selection of fabrics to choose from. Was really hard narrowing it down!

Not grey.... more silver Grin So it has a creamy background with silvery threads, almost white now since I washed it over the summer (whoops). We also have Egyptian Cotton walls, beige carpets, and cream rugs and curtains. Very, very, neutral.

GiantKitten · 23/10/2018 14:49

2 sofas, 2 sets of covers each.

Smaller one’s covers are plain light green & grey (sorry Grin) - Sofasofa Newport

Larger one’s are plain cream & red/grey/cream stripes - Ikea Ektorp.

Walls are red, carpet is light brown. Room is a massive hotchpotch but I like it.

wrenika · 23/10/2018 18:26

Burgundy.

Can I just say, I love threads like this. It’s great reading what people have chosen.

We’ve got white walls, beige carpet (we’re in a rental) and currently have a 2nd hand modular dark brown leather corner sofa. It’s years and years old and was gifted to us by relatives who spent many thousands on it years ago.
So far we’ve had it for 6 years and it’s survived our three kids and one cat.

Boreted · 23/10/2018 19:25

CaseStudy I saw your post about your orange sofa on another thread and wanted to ask you for a picture but I chickened out! Feeling braver tonight - I’m hankering after an orange one myself so, if you’d like to show us a pic, I’d be very interested? Or if not (totally understandable) where is it from? :)

CaseStudyResearch · 23/10/2018 19:32

@Boreted - will definitely get one tonight once I’ve kicked DH & the cat off the sofa!

Robotlady · 23/10/2018 19:34

A bit lighter than navy. It's not velvet but it has a little bit of a pile enough to leave an embarrassing bum print in it til i sweep my hand across it

TheFairyCaravan · 23/10/2018 19:51

Ours is mink (from Nabru). I wanted Teal but DH said no. We're getting new covers in grey. I've begged for purple but he's not having it.

Boreted · 23/10/2018 19:54

Case - thank you! Tell your Dh and cat it’s all in the name of very important consumer research ... :)

Scandie · 23/10/2018 20:08

Bright turquoise. Have cream walls and wooden flooring

Boreted · 23/10/2018 20:11

doctorboo I love threads like this too! I like all the ones where us “real” people share pictures of sitting rooms, kitchens, hallways etc. Find them much more inspirational than Pinterest or magazines.

CountFosco · 23/10/2018 20:31

@Boreted, I've just bought this for the playroom. Can't show a photo in situ because it's currently in our sittingroom while we decorate the playroom. But the orange is gorgeous.

Boreted · 23/10/2018 20:36

Thanks for that Count, that’s a lovely colour and a perfect playroom sofa. What colour walls/floor are you going with?

CaseStudyResearch · 23/10/2018 21:18

@Boreted this is the sofa (sans cushions so you can see the depth a bit better!)

It’s from the Tangier range at Furniture Village.

If you have a fabric sofa, and it isn't grey...
Boreted · 23/10/2018 23:09

Oh that’s really nice CaseStudy thank you. Do you find the loose back cushions a nuisance? I’m so tempted to go orange but can’t figure out what I’d do with walls and floors.

CountFosco · 24/10/2018 07:36

Boreted, the current carpet and blinds are grey and we are going to have everything else white (wall and furniture) with maybe the odd touch of orange (lamp, decals). Reckon all the toys will add enough colour!

Kenworthington · 24/10/2018 08:19

I have two dark brown leather sofas and a vintage red velvet one. We will be moving to a new build soon and I am having the red one reupholstered in maybe a velvet William Morris print to go in the bedroom and also buying a rusty orange corner sofa

MiriAmmerman · 24/10/2018 08:29

We have pale duck egg fabric sofas. Very comfy and the covers are machine washable so they're practical with the cat and the baby and the amount of Chinese takeaway I eat in front of the telly.

I have a secret hankering for this sofa in blush pink velvet though: m.dfs.co.uk/zinc/zcc23alxe

CaseStudyResearch · 24/10/2018 08:53

We’re in a rental at the moment so obviously sticking with the white walls and grey floor.

In our future home, I’m imagining it with sage green and white walls (I’ve got a thing at the moment about half painted walls) and a darker wood floor. Either dark wood or white accessories.

CaseStudyResearch · 24/10/2018 08:55

To the cushions question, no - I actually prefer that they are loose so they can be plumped up properly.

DH slumps down on them, so I swap them over regularly to stop them permanent looking battered!
