What did you not have growing up?

That 'everybody else in the world!' had? For me it was a tamagotchi. My mum was afraid of it waking me up at night because she heard you couldn't switch them off. I desperately wanted a 101 dalmatians one. I have a lump in my throat thinking about it now! It felt so lonely to be the only one in the playground without one. I even looped a Christmas cracker keyring over my finger and held it in my hand so I could pretend to myself I was like the others. Blush

What about you guys?

I had a Mr Frosty! I've no idea how I managed to get one because we never had 'the big thing' of the moment. I remember it being pretty cool, little sachets of flavour mix to sprinkle over the crushed ice. I must find out if they've still got it knocking round their place, I'm sure it would be quite valuable now given how much everyone wanted one and nobody got one!

Shriekingbanshee · 23/10/2018 13:22

That the whole Mr Frosty thing passed me by completely! How can that have happened? my childhood was truly shit

HollySwift · 23/10/2018 13:28

Sibling(s)
A mother who valued me over money
A dad who showed up regularly instead of trying to make up for absence with trips to Disneyland. (Literally!!)
Barbies
Time with parents instead of being shoved to my DNans every holiday. In contrast, DM never does childcare for me...

I’d still like some of those things tbh.

Oh and autonomy would have been nice, and probably prevented my teenage rebellion that resulted in 2 babies before I was 20... (wouldn’t be without them though)!

Shriekingbanshee · 23/10/2018 13:30

Haloween Sad but hallelujah for your dnan Holly

tinytemper66 · 23/10/2018 13:36

LadyMacbeth ditto with Sindy. I also had Pippa!
Never had a Tiny Tears either or a model head for doing hair/makeup.

tinytemper66 · 23/10/2018 13:36

Also no coloured TV, no central heating.

drspouse · 23/10/2018 13:45

A Barbie or Cindy, my DM hated them so I had an Action Girl instead
Same here, they were too sexist my mum said.
I also wanted a Soda Stream, and a Tiny Tears, and to be allowed to watch ITV (I'm not sure if it was the ads that were the problem or the programmes). But my mum was a teacher and mentioned to an older pupil (or maybe a parent) that she recommended a programme on BBC2 and the reaction was "no that's too posh Miss".
And to be allowed to hold my mum's hand and get in my parents' bed for a cuddle.

drspouse · 23/10/2018 13:47

Oh I'm glad to say I don't remember Mr Frosty and I'm too old for tamagochi

Shriekingbanshee · 23/10/2018 14:00

No girls world here either. Another one passed me by completely!

Dowser · 23/10/2018 14:25

Ha! Ha! No Barbies or sindys in the 50s
I had dolls..one called Gloria Angelina, another Bronwen and the other one Myfanwy
(I was an imaginative child especially as my best friends were Freda and Gladys)
And a teddy called Suzanne

No Mr Frostys either
No bike..wasn’t allowed...too dangerous
I did have roller skates
Lots of books..read Heidi and little women countless time and what Katy did
Played lots of games with parents, chess, ludo, a type of scrabble called keyword
Battleships with squares paper
And we’d go out into the country and play Hot rice
One would hold a tennis racquet while the others would try to pelt them with a tennis ball..if you got hit you dropped the bat and ran for your life before one of dad’s stingers got you
Mum , who wasn’t the slightest bit sporty would squeal like a stuck pig as she ran off
I’d be doubled up with laughter
( my family does seem to have a bit of a cruel streak 😂)

owlshooting · 23/10/2018 14:27

A TV . Central heating. New clothes. Toys or possessions apart from books.

EBearhug · 23/10/2018 15:41

I don't know if I ever knew about Mr Frosty, which may be the result of not having a TV. There were plenty of other things I didn't have - but I didn't want things like a Girl's World, so those didn't bother me. (Might be on my sister's list, though.) I did see these things at friends' houses, but it was stuff like big Lego sets that I coveted (we did have a lot of Lego anyway.)

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 23/10/2018 15:53

A television. (Due to my parents' values, not lack of funds.)

whatacarryon2018 · 23/10/2018 15:54

Mr frosty and baby born. My sister (who's ten years younger) got a baby born years later and I went nuts. I was 19 at the time 😂😂

spinabifidamom · 23/10/2018 16:01

My own telly
My own laptop
My own bedroom

I did have a phone however.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 23/10/2018 16:03

Oh, and a sister.

HollySwift · 23/10/2018 16:03

but hallelujah for your dnan Holly

It would be, except time with her was basically spent in shit pubs/working men’s clubs where my best entertainment was crawling on the manky floor under tables/booths looking for money that had been dropped so I could take my £1 booty to the arcade. Alone. Angry

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 23/10/2018 16:06

Now that I'm ruminating on my deprived childhood: a kangaroo. I

Mugglemom · 23/10/2018 16:07

The one thing I wanted most when I was a kid was a Ronco food dehydrator.

The infomercial made it look soooo cool and I was prepared to make my own beef jerky and banana chips and dried apple slices!

I asked Santa for it repeatedly and was repeatedly disappointed.

snowone · 23/10/2018 16:10

The clarks shoes with the magic key in the bottom....I can't tell you how much I wanted a pair!!

Lolly49 · 23/10/2018 16:16

A Raleigh chopper because I was a girl.
Got one now .

midsomermurderess · 23/10/2018 16:25

Love and affection.

morningconstitutional2017 · 23/10/2018 17:15

A car, room of my own, hairdryer, straighteners, roller skates.

Long hair - really craved this but mum wouldn't let me.

Daisychainsandglitter · 23/10/2018 17:23

A Keeper- all my friends had one and I was so jealous.
Magic step shoes from Clark's.
