What did you not have growing up?

That 'everybody else in the world!' had? For me it was a tamagotchi. My mum was afraid of it waking me up at night because she heard you couldn't switch them off. I desperately wanted a 101 dalmatians one. I have a lump in my throat thinking about it now! It felt so lonely to be the only one in the playground without one. I even looped a Christmas cracker keyring over my finger and held it in my hand so I could pretend to myself I was like the others. Blush

What about you guys?

Didn't have a TV until I was 9 (1980s) never went to McDonalds (but didn't really miss it)

Barbies were also on the banned list, and My Little Pony.

Fadingmemory · 21/10/2018 20:42

A car
A phone
Siblings

TroysMammy · 21/10/2018 20:42

A telephone. My parents had one put in when I was 16 and my DM would wave an egg timer at us if we asked if we could use it. As a result I have never gone in for long chats on the phone.

A parent who would drive us everywhere. My Dad worked shifts and my Mother who didn't drive, caused me not to get invited anywhere and I only had friends who lived in walking distance, ie in the same village.

Yes pierced ears had to wait until 16 too.

CherLooksYoungerThanMe · 21/10/2018 20:44

A video recorder. Hated that at the time, but really not bothered now.

MeanQueenHalloween · 21/10/2018 20:44

Praise. Or a soda stream.

EggysMom · 21/10/2018 20:45

Modern clothes
Independence
Parents I could talk to ....

But on a more light-hearted note, I didn't have a Girls World, nor a Mr Frosty.

gothefcktosleep · 21/10/2018 20:45

A normal BMI...

I screamed terrible things at my mother for things I wanted. It’s the very opposite of who I am now and I’m so ashamed to have done that. To be fair go my parents I really wanted for nothing possessions wise.

Chuggachuggatoottoot · 21/10/2018 20:45

Central heating

Pebblespony · 21/10/2018 20:45

No barbies here either. Just the crappy pound shop equivalents.
But yeah, Mr Frosty!

PawneeParksDept · 21/10/2018 20:46

We weren't allowed Barbies either, it seems quite modern really that 80s Mums felt they sent the wrong message but I know a lot of people who weren't

TroysMammy · 21/10/2018 20:47

Roller boots were another thing I didn't have and also fashionable shoes. I had clumpy buckle shoes until I cried in a shoe shop when I was 16 when the sales woman told me all my friends would be jealous of the shoes my DM wanted me to have. Like shit they would. I never got them as my DM dragged me out of the shop in embarrassment. Result.

Hot water more than once a week. Central heating - or ANY heating upstairs.
Enough clothes to have clean undies every day.
A phone.
A washing machine.
Any hugs or parental affection at all.
Freedom from continual criticism and occasional violence.
Enough to eat.

TheWeatherGirl1 · 21/10/2018 20:57

Also a Mr Frosty.
Seems there's a lot of us out there, we should start a Facebook group.

AdaColeman · 21/10/2018 20:57
