What did you not have growing up?

That 'everybody else in the world!' had? For me it was a tamagotchi. My mum was afraid of it waking me up at night because she heard you couldn't switch them off. I desperately wanted a 101 dalmatians one. I have a lump in my throat thinking about it now! It felt so lonely to be the only one in the playground without one. I even looped a Christmas cracker keyring over my finger and held it in my hand so I could pretend to myself I was like the others. Blush

What about you guys?

A sense that it was OK to be me.

LightastheBreeze · 23/10/2018 19:47

A Spirograph, I really wanted one more than anything else, I must have been about 10

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 23/10/2018 19:51

Ballet and riding lessons - parents would not allow either!

Wellhellojonsnow · 23/10/2018 19:54
  • Mr Frosty here too!
  • Soda stream - I remember friends having them and I was so jealous
  • A care bear
  • Swimming and ballet lessons

I did however get a Barbie....with Derek as a companion (Ken was unaware ha ha) and their camper van, a global hypercolour t shirt and an a la carte kitchen. Me and DH still repeat the advert when our DS brings toy food to us in bed “wake up daddy, breakfast’s ready!”

SemperIdem · 23/10/2018 19:56

A patient mother. My sibling is 8 years younger than me and has had a very different mother at comparative ages. However - for all her lack of patience, and getting things wrong, I know she loves me. It was never in doubt. Her being softer and more patient would have been a massive help when I was younger. But I’m a mum now myself and understand so clearly that getting it wrong is as likely as getting it right.

On a lighter note - Sylvanian Families. I so wanted them but my parents decided Play Mobil was a superior “build it up” toy so I was forever without Grin

LightastheBreeze · 23/10/2018 19:57

I also wanted a Chopper bike but could understand why I couldn’t have one as they were expensive but I could never understand not being allowed a Spirograph, it was just mean. Even 50 years on I still remember not having one,

PhilomenaDeathsHeadHawkMoth · 23/10/2018 20:01

I was brought up by my DGPs so fashionable clothes.

ChikiTIKI · 23/10/2018 20:51

lottiebear69 · 23/10/2018 21:11

A pair of roller skates
My dad made me some out of trainers and skate board wheels very tricky to stop !

Downeyhouse · 23/10/2018 21:17

Olivia Newton skin tight Grease inspired black trousers.

I was 8 it was 1978.

My friends with the hip young mums got them. My mum was more like the lady from the Manor Born! Old fashioned and an older mum. No way was her daughter going to dress like that.

I got sensible flared black cords handed down from my brother Grin

Was gutted and may possibly have thrown a tantrum.

Apart from that we were lucky. Had everything we wanted and needed.

AamdC · 23/10/2018 21:24
