What did you not have growing up?

That 'everybody else in the world!' had? For me it was a tamagotchi. My mum was afraid of it waking me up at night because she heard you couldn't switch them off. I desperately wanted a 101 dalmatians one. I have a lump in my throat thinking about it now! It felt so lonely to be the only one in the playground without one. I even looped a Christmas cracker keyring over my finger and held it in my hand so I could pretend to myself I was like the others. Blush

What about you guys?

What did you not have growing up?
Lazypoolday · 23/10/2018 22:14

Mr frosty here too. I don't think I've ever met someone who actually got one. And a soda stream. I thought they were only for posh people

Also we didn't have central heating until we moved when I was about 13. It seemed like such a luxury when we finally got it!

EleanorLavish · 23/10/2018 22:24

Pop fan I had that! Still do actually, best toy EVER!!

A soda stream

jinglebitch · 23/10/2018 22:40

A ra-ra skirt

SchadenfreudeUndeadified · 23/10/2018 22:51

For everyone who mourned the absence of a Mr Frosty - that toy was shite.

You missed nothing except disappointment and broken dreams.

Shriekingbanshee · 24/10/2018 00:41

Aw love that schaden I feel reassured now

1forAll74 · 24/10/2018 04:52

Central heating.
Inside toilet.
Telephone.
Washing machine.

TraceyBond · 24/10/2018 05:02

A Pony! I had plans for it to live in the garden shed and was desperate for one.

I bought a horse the minute I left Uni.

Giggorata · 24/10/2018 06:14

Heating. No financial reason, just wasn't thought necessary..
Fashionable clothes.. older parents, didn't get it.
Pierced ears - unthinkable until adult.
Freedom.

ForalltheSaints · 24/10/2018 07:08

ITV- well almost none. Before remote controls you were very much a BBC or ITV household, and the local ITV was so bad at times that it was avoided.

Aebj · 24/10/2018 07:16

I wanted a barbie but had sindy
My ears pierced
To be in brownies, annoyed me that my brother was allowed to do scouts ( but looking back I’m glad I didn’t have that brown uniform 😂😂)
A computer

bimbobaggins · 24/10/2018 07:26

Central heating, A regular supply of toilet rolls. Newspaper was our friend.
Love, I don’t doubt my parents loved me but we were never told or shown any affection at all

mrpoopybutthole · 24/10/2018 07:39

Another here for Mr Frosty. My cousin had one & I was so jealous that I stole one of the penguin shaped flavours.

RottenApple · 24/10/2018 07:54

A Mr Frosty (I bought one as soon as I got my first student loan payment at university- my mum was right, it was a waste of money as it was shite. Gutted.)

Screwball Scramble

A scalextric

A TV in my room (I've still never had this as I now agree with my mother that a bedroom is not the place for a telly)

RottenApple · 24/10/2018 07:58

Oh and sylvanian families. My friend had EVERYTHING. My mum said they were too expensive 😢

DeltaG · 24/10/2018 08:09

I requested a Mr Frosty for Xmas every year for about 5 years! Never got one! My friend had one, but was never allowed to play with it due to the mess it created.

We need a support group for those who missed out and never quite got over it!!

RottenApple · 24/10/2018 08:16

And also Ricicles! I always asked if we could have them when at the supermarket. Mum always said no as they were too expensive and "you can just put sugar on Rice Krispies"
But she always bought Frosties because my dad liked them and she never had an answer to my question "why can't he just put sugar on cornflakes?"

And now they no longer sell Ricicles!

Urchinella · 24/10/2018 08:45

I grew up in an inner city council flat, 5 kids and my dad died, so the list of stuff I never had is huge. But the one thing I really lacked was a pony, my DM had all sorts of reasons why it wasn't a good idea, I had an answer for everything. Eight flights of stairs....I'd train it to walk up stairs, it could live in the bathroom.....so that wasn't a problem either. My life was ruined.

I did get horsey wallpaper though as a surprise one day. I slept surrounded by showjumpers.

drspouse · 24/10/2018 09:09

@lightasabreeze we loved our spirograph and I agree, that is just mean!

My parents were the epitome of mean but got us that.

amgine · 24/10/2018 09:20

Mains electric

RhubarbTea · 24/10/2018 09:27

A Dad
A telly
A washing machine
An education.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 24/10/2018 09:29

A Baby Born doll. I used to ask for it every birthday and Christmas and got every other variation of doll but never that one.

TheWiseWomansFear · 24/10/2018 09:35

Chocolate spread... it was not allowed. I don't eat it now though so clearly it worked. I prefer a nice sugar laden fig conserve...

TheWiseWomansFear · 24/10/2018 09:36

I had a mr frosty though... Grin
