Is there a way to hide a topic?

I read MN via the “Active” threads link. I keep getting stuck in the “feminist” topic (which isn’t actually about feminism). For example I wandered into a thread called “Waitrose” today thinking it was about shopping, but it wasn’t!

Is there any way of hiding this section of the board (like you can hide individual threads) so they don’t keep popping up in “Active”?

“Feminism Chat” I mean.

You could just stick your head in the sand.

PippaRabbit · 20/10/2018 20:06

Go here. You can hide whatever topics you want from the link.

Oooohh

That board is the reason the 'Hide Topic' exists, and is so wonderful.

Wasn't there exactly the same thread as this recently. The op got dragged over the coals for daring to mention the feminism board was the one she / he wanted to hide.

PMSwithacockinmydress · 20/10/2018 20:29

I wish there was the option to hide people.

Bit rude, innit?

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 20/10/2018 20:29

If only there were a way to click "Hide this thread". If only.

PippaRabbit · 20/10/2018 20:30

Yes there was and it was awful to watch that OP being targeted. I hide loads of topics that don't interest me awaits the pile on for daring to hide the feminist topic 😂

HurricaneFliss If you read the thread I mentioned, I tried and tried asking questions and was chased off, so yep, given up.

PMSwithacockinmydress No! Not rude at all. Smile

How funny. this exact question was asked a couple of weeks ago. Loads of people agreed they didn't want site of the feminism threads and then some posters from the Feminism threads piled in, demonstrating EXACTLY the reason so many people want to hide them Grin

Go to the little arrow in a circle, next to TALK at the top of the page.
Go to customise
In that list it gives you the option to hide threads.
It is a life saver Wink

PippaRabbit thank you.

Sorry but this page is only accessible via the desktop site. Please switch to desktop and try again.

I will have to try on desktop later. Thanks

I’ve already been dragged over the coals for daring to ask questions so don’t really care if it happens again here.

If it is a cause worth supporting then they are not going themselves any favours though. I had wandered into so many threads by mistake that I thought, ok, I’ll make the effort and find out. But to no avail!

You could just stick your head in the sand.

Aaaaaand the passive-aggressive comments begin... good luck OP!

legofriendly · 20/10/2018 20:39

BackforGood Yes I can hide the thread, thank you. I wanted to hide the topic because I don’t always notice the topic, just the titlle, and some threads have a title that bares no relation to the content.

I was on where the OP started with a quote from a Facebook conversation and she then talked about something completely different.
I queried the connection and got told that threads don't have to stick to one thing. The OP insisted they were connected and when I said how she said she couldn't tell me the whole conversation.

legofriendly · 20/10/2018 21:45

marcopront

I’m the op. I didn’t speak about Facebook and havent made any of the comments you said Confused

Are you on the right thread?!

OP posts:
anitagreen · 20/10/2018 22:39

Yeah there's a few whole sections/topics I wanted to hide too but there doesn't seem to be an option on the app or webpage to do this? Will there ever be an option to do that? I hope so.

eloliphant · 20/10/2018 22:48

@marcopront huh?

BackforGood · 20/10/2018 22:50

Lego - Yes, you can, that is what I and many others hve done.
Go to the bottom of that 'customise' page, and it says

You can opt never to see certain topics in Active Conversations or opt in to see the Special Needs topic (which otherwise does not display). To manage these options (and your list of hidden threads, if you have any), use the link below (but do save first if you have made other changes on this page).
Then you click on the list and hide the topic Smile

Ah this is useful. Going to hide xmas before the spamming starts.
