Is there a way to hide a topic?

I read MN via the “Active” threads link. I keep getting stuck in the “feminist” topic (which isn’t actually about feminism). For example I wandered into a thread called “Waitrose” today thinking it was about shopping, but it wasn’t!

Is there any way of hiding this section of the board (like you can hide individual threads) so they don’t keep popping up in “Active”?

OP posts:

I'm tempted to do the same OP.

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/10/2018 00:06

I've hidden it too.

IKeepFlouncing · 21/10/2018 00:11

ooh hide... as is a man hiding with his penis under the label of woman coming to women’s space near you.

How this thread end up on my screen

The instructions to hide it are upthread HTH

I read that thread. There was a handful of genuine posters (check their posting history) asking questions and the other posters chased them off with their teenage wokespeak (“sealioning” lol!) and argot language, which whilst giving themselves a sense of belonging and campaigning, also serves to alienate the very people to whom they should be talking.

The highfiving and whooping as they drive the wedge is the stuff of playgrounds. They do not realise that they have become a character of themselves. The unqualified leading the immature whilst seeing off those mature enough to admit that they don’t know the story.

Ironically it is these sneerers that look like the infiltrators. Such is the grand job they are doing of making people hide the topic in droves.

caricature of themselves

Hid the feminism topic soon after I joined. Grin. Got into a couple of arguments on it and decided it wasn’t for me. Sad to see it hasn’t changed.

RatUnholyRolyPoly · 21/10/2018 03:56

I didn't see that thread OP... because I've hidden the (un)feminist board. Life is better this way Grin

marcopront · 21/10/2018 05:56

Sorry @legofriendly I wasn't clear.
It was a thread on feminist chat where I felt I was in a parallel universe.
I was trying to agree with your comment about the title and the comment having no connection. It felt worse however as the opening part of the comment had no connection to the rest of it.

A580Hojas · 21/10/2018 06:59

I am deeply suspicious that it is always the feminism topic that people suddenly want to know how to hide. I've seen at least 3 threads recently. Its almost as if people are planting those posts on here for malicious reasons. I've got loads of topics hidden and managed to work out how to do it all by myself like a grown up. I seriously can't believe that there are more feminism threads cluttering up Active Conversations than the hundreds of antenatal threads (for example) and yet people never seem to need advice on how to hide those. Funny that Hmm.

I thought the same thing.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 21/10/2018 07:23

Well believe me, it is the only topic I’ve hidden. Even the thread titles without opening them make me wince. Just can’t be bothered with all that angst and aggression.

PatchworkElmer · 21/10/2018 07:25

A580, yes, it’s strange isn’t it!

exLtEveDallas · 21/10/2018 07:30

I'm surprised that OP would want to hide a topic where all her questions were explained, including the reasons why the FWR board has to be careful with new posters coming on (previous attacks).

Especially as OP was so steadfast in her defence of a poster in AIBU, registering solely so she could defend her against other posters who wouldn't/couldn't see her POV.

It's all a conspiracy!

...or the feminist boards are just tosh. Can't imagine which is more likely.

A580Hojas · 21/10/2018 09:17

I think it's very unlikely that the whole of the feminism topic is "just tosh". A bit challenging or in your face at the moment - yes ok then but the GRA is a huge thing. Tosh - no.

DeeferDogs · 21/10/2018 10:35

A580Hojas

You have spectacularly missed the point (on purpose I wonder?! Ooh a conspiracy about a conspiracy theory lol!)

You can’t hide a topic on a phone. Threads yes, and the OP had done it. Topics no, you need a laptop or a desk top. The link is not there on a phone ffs.

That is why people have trouble.

It's easy on the mobile version, just scroll to the bottom of the page and there's a link to switch to desktop mode. I guess you can't on the app though.

exLtEveDallas · 21/10/2018 10:48

Grow up? Really? @DeeferDogs

Yes there have been plenty of attacks on the women of the FWR board - from MRAs, TRAs, F4J et al. And from very Male orientated websites like ArRSE, P&B and Pistonheads. They followed posters around the boards, derailed and derided sensitive threads (including bereavement, baby loss, SN etc), doxxed them and threatened them with posts to families and employers.

Do you think that is acceptable?

TeddyIsaHe · 21/10/2018 10:50

You can hide on a phone, go to right at the bottom of the page and there’s a button to switch to desktop. Then just into preferences and go from there. Can switch back to mobile view again at the bottom of the page when done.

DeeferDogs · 21/10/2018 10:50

Lol at all your three letter acronyms (tlas!)

Hahaha!

DeeferDogs · 21/10/2018 10:51

Is there a way to hide them on the app?

exLtEveDallas · 21/10/2018 10:53

Sorry, didn't you understand them? I thought they were quite common.

Men's Rights Activists
Trans Rights Activists
Fathers for Justice
Army Rumour Service
Pie and Bovril

Oh and FWR is Feminism and Women's Rights.

Does that help?

No comment on the attacks though?

HurricaneFliss · 21/10/2018 10:54

Yes. Women talking about matters that affect women = tosh

Deefer - stop being a prick.
