Does anybody look good in their passport photo

I had to renew my passport, so I trotted off to the photo booth, I was feeling quite good about myself, I had taken care with my make up and my hair was behaving itself.

I look like I should be on a crimwatch line up!

I mean, I looked like a gargoyle , I had huge eye bags, and I certainly didn't have them when I looked in the mirror.

How has this happened? I now feel utterly miserable and now considering plastic surgeryBlush

I look good in mine, actually. A little bit like I'd kill someone, but in a sexy way.

Fadingmemory · 19/10/2018 21:55

Rosa Klebb looks ravishing in comparison to my passport photo. Totally grim.

MooFeatures · 19/10/2018 21:58

I look like an upset yak in mine Blush

DuchessAnnogovia · 19/10/2018 22:01

With my glowering face and white hair I resemble Hindley. Needless to say I'm dying my hair and having it done again!

Mhw02 · 19/10/2018 22:04

I look like a convict in mine; a resemblance only accentuated by the fact I'm wearing a grey and black stripy top! Plus I'm a stone heavier in it than I am now.

DoYouLikeBasghetti · 19/10/2018 22:11

My first passport photo was in the days before digital photography........ I looked STUNNING! Actually had one passport check at the airport where she said, "that's never you, you look like a model!"

(Total back-handed compliment, but I dug it!)

I lost that 15 passport years ago and I still regret it. In every single passport photo I've had since I look like Shreck the Rapist. Sad

twattymctwatterson · 19/10/2018 22:20

I also look like Myra hindley. Attractive

GrouchyKiwi · 19/10/2018 22:34

I too look like I want to stab someone in mine. But not in a sexy way.

My Dad looks like an escaped convict in his gun licence photo, which is exactly the look you want on one of those.

noodlezoodle · 19/10/2018 22:36

Nope, because despite lashing on loads of make up so I didn't look totally washed out, I have terrible resting bitch face, so any picture where I can't smile is always particularly grim.

Also I'd just had a really awful short haircut before I renewed my passport so even though the hair has thankfully grown out, I have another 8 years of looking at that bloody haircut every time I travel.

CrazyDeamonDog · 19/10/2018 22:40

I could never the person who checks passports I couldn't contain my laughter i definitely couldnt control the verbal commentary

CrazyDeamonDog · 19/10/2018 22:41

I have a terrible resting bitch face it's got me into so much trouble my only defence I I can't help it it's just my face

Woooman · 19/10/2018 22:47

I look like Michael Jackson in my passport photo. Very very pale skin and no nose.

chemenger · 19/10/2018 22:58

The picture I sent in with my US visa application was so bad that when I went for my interview they let me swap it for one that looked something like a living human being. The original looked like the poorly embalmed corpse of someone who had died of alcohol poisoning. Although it was a colour picture I was entirely grey.

JollyAndBright · 20/10/2018 09:20

My passport photo (and driving licence photo) are great.... but they cost me £85.

Aph413 · 20/10/2018 09:24

My last passport I looked worse than death. This time I wore make-up and perfected a half smile that means you can't tell I'm smiling but lifts my cheeks enough to get rid of corpse face.
It's the no smiling rule that does it.

LARLARLAND · 20/10/2018 09:27

I look like a member of the IRA circa 1974 in mine.
DS1’s passport photo is amazing. He looks so good. He’s been asked to model and seeing that it’s obvious why.

Ohyesiam · 20/10/2018 09:32

My oh and both look like mass murderers, my usually pretty dd looks like a dumpling. My ds looks beautiful and cherubic.
He’s 11 and couldn’t care less.

TokyoKyoto · 20/10/2018 09:33

Oh mine is hideous. HIDEOUS.

I had one when I was 22 and I looked bloody lovely in it. I even thought so at the time. I was gutted when that passport ran out!

fussychica · 20/10/2018 09:36

At least you can now keep taking pictures at home until you get bored for online renewals. After about 20 40 goes mine looks ok but I'm a smiley person so the no smile rule makes me look totally unnatural.

hellokittymania · 20/10/2018 09:45

Just got mine renewed on Wednesday, I had pictures with a Pikachu shirt that I wanted to use, but I was smiling. So I couldn't. The actual photo looks horrible. Although my mother said not as bad as I thought. But of course she would say that wouldn't see. I am visually impaired though and I can't keep my very small eyes open especially during pictures and it took about 20 times and a lot of patience to take the pictures of the passport office. I had a fast track one day passport and I'm glad they were so patient. I thought the machine would never say the picture was OK.

Maelstrop · 20/10/2018 09:51

Mine’s fucking fabulous! I looked for a passport sized picture, found one in the drawer that I’d also used for my driving licence. It’s about ten years old Grin I look gorgeous which is unusual because I generally look HIDEOUS in photos. It’s literally the third photo I’ve ever had that’s good, the other two being my own wedding and at a mate’s wedding. I treasure them!

Going through Passport control, the guy just looked at the passport, looked at me, shook his head and waved me on. I was Blush

StaringDownTheBarrelOfFifty · 20/10/2018 09:52

Remember the saying ''if you look like your passport photo, you're too ill to travel''

Bananamanfan · 20/10/2018 09:55

Do you remember that programme 'honey, we're killing the kids'? I look like the adult photo of how the kids end up if you carried on feeding them junk food and they ended up smack heads.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 20/10/2018 09:55

Yes I like mine. It's slightly soft focussed somehow and even my very blonde hair, which is normally completely unphotogenic (photos look like I'm nearly bald) looks good.

DH carries a passport picture of me in his wallet from 1985 Hmm

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 20/10/2018 10:05

Mine is fine, in fact, it's fine to lovely, and it's on my driving licence too!! It was a tesco photo booth machine.

But I practised for DAYS with my phone selfies....making a nice neutral face, no bitch, no potato, no extra chins, no crepey neck, (wear a scarf!), extra charm, wisdom and alertness.
On the day I did my makeup, and hair was nicely done. I normally only slick on a bit of lippy and mascara and rarely do anything hair wise except towel dry and leave

They do say to take in a big bit of card covered in foil to bounce the light about...hold over your lap, out of shot, angled up toward your face, but I have not tried that this time....that was my fall back plan if all the practising and full slap let me down.

I did all that because the one before I did look like the love child of MyraHindly and bloody Gloria Hunniford and a potato. And it's worth it! :o
