Can you influence conceiving a girl?

Hi
This is lighthearted.
To be honest. We would secretly like a girl second time around. One of each and all that.

Do you believe in any of the malarky that claims to influence the conception of a girl? For example, eating 27000grams of watercress before you do the wild thing.

(Disclaimer- I love my son. I would love another son. This is not for religious reasons.)

No. It's your husband's sperm that determines if you will have a boy or a girl. All the rest is rubbish and if it worked it would be medically documented by now.

On the Sims3 you can influence the sex of a baby of a pregnant Sim, if you make the pregnant Sim eat 10+ watermelons then she'll have a girl, but if you make her eat 10+ apples she'll have a boy.

I don't think this works in real life.

I did read more girls are born to stressed father's than unstressed ones - theory is helps rebuild population after times of war, plague, famine etc.

So you could try stressing your DP out?

Female sperm are hardier than male so maybe have sex the day before you ovulate so all the male sperm die and the hardcore female ones fertilise the egg.

I heard of people taking Clomid to conceive girls...pretty extreme and probably not a good idea! I think a low calorie diet is supposed to make you more likely to conceive a girl and both you and DH being veggie.

Well I think there may be some vague scientific stuff around the male sperm being quicker but also less long living or summat like that. So the idea is lots of sex prior to being fertile and then more when you are fertile, so theoretically you've 'used up' the male sperm and have loads of girly swimmers. We sort of did this (not to conceive a girl but to conceive). We have two girls.

Disclaimer: this is most likely bollocks.

I read that if you only have sex up to three or four days before ovulation, a higher proportion of the sperm that survive will be female ones. Obviously there's no certainty, and it probably reduces your chance of conceiving overall.

Two boys and a girl here - by the time we were trying for the third I knew exactly when I was ovulating ( didn't use contraception in between pregnancies!) so decided to follow the advice of conceiving just before ovulation to have a girl. DH wasn't allowed sex outside these times and it worked for me - I also tried holding the 'bicycle' position for a few minutes after DTD Grin

Not sure if I believe the timing and weird position had anything to do with it though Grin

So far.....
Find out when I ovulate.
Have my legs shaved for two days before. Might do the moustache too.
Stress him right out.
Weaponise the hardcore female sperm.
Watermelons if I want a Sim baby.
Both go on a diet.
Don't let him eat fish or meat.
Lots of sex. Lots.

I know a woman that believes you can. She had 3 boys and was desperate for a girl, she joined a forum called Ingender ( I think that's correct ) and did all sorts of stuff to sway for a girl. Iirc it was things to do with diet, earring certain food groups and cutting out certain food, having sex at a specific time in her cycle and other things I can't remember. Anyway she went on to have 4 girls. Could all be chance though of course.

I think there is something scientific about the biological differences between X and Y sperm in terms of longevity and stamina. The X's are sprinters but flag once they have reached their destination and the Y's are good all rounders slow and steady, therefore timing sex 12-24 hours pre-ovulation might influence a girl being conceived.

Entirely anecdotal but during my time as a military child it was often discussed that pilots have a disproportionate number of girls compared to ground personnel. Does your dh fancy a career change?
