Mine are:
ride a horse on a beach (done the horse bit, not the beach bit!!)
volunteer for the Samaritans (I love helping people)
get a camera and do some photography
volunteer/work for a dog rescue centre

I'll think of more I'm sure, but for now share with me some of yours!

Volunteer at Crisis at Christmas
Walk along untouristy parts of The Great Wall of China
Work in India - doing anything really, I just want to live there a while
Write a publishable novel

PipeTheFuckDown · 17/10/2018 12:07

I’ve done almost nothing that I wanted to do.

But I’ve just started my degree at 32, which has been top of my wish list for years and involved going to college first. Even got into my dream Uni Grin

I’m focusing on that for now, but in the next decade -

  • Masters
  • PhD
  • Take my children abroad somewhere amazing, preferably several different places
  • Learn Archery and sword fighting Grin
MinaPaws · 17/10/2018 12:09

Congratulations on uni Pipe

nonetworkaccess · 17/10/2018 12:15

@equimum I'd love to ride a Marwari horse for this reason.

I rode as a youngster and my beloved Welsh Mountain pony had such a comfortable gait I was spoiled for life. No other horse has ever felt right since.

Now, all I'd like is the dignity and comfort of private healthcare.

HebeMumsnet · 17/10/2018 12:18

Learn to do one or all of the following in secret and then shrug nonchalantly to gathered friends and family when they see me use said skill for the first time:

Speak Russian
Ride a horse - bareback
Sing brilliantly at karaoke
Sit down at a piano in a hotel lobby and play Rachmaninoff with ease
Fire a gun accurately (nothing violent, just shoot a tin can off a wall in a cheeky way or something)

Therealjudgejudy · 17/10/2018 12:57

Run a marathon
Walk the entire great wall of China.

I'm actually doing both of these next year!

This year's goals were to learn Spanish and learn to play the guitar. Spanish is going well...guitar is a work in progress Grin

Bananasinpyjamas11 · 17/10/2018 13:04

@hebemumsnet I love that list! Although how do you nonchalantly show friends you can fire a gun accurately? Smile

nonetworkaccess · 17/10/2018 13:14

@bananasinpjs Google firearms ranges or clay pigeon shooting.

Clay shooting is probably the easiest to find as there are fewer restrictions on shotguns.

MulticolourMophead · 17/10/2018 13:33

Learn to play drums.

Learn Mandarin
Go to China

I turned 50 recently and these are some my bucket list items for the year.....

HebeMumsnet · 17/10/2018 14:19

Bananas Hmmm... good point. I was hoping for some kind of non-threatening scenario in which my prowess could be observed. Perhaps we would happen across an illegal fox hunt stopping for a tea and I could wrestle a rifle off one of them and shoot a few holes in their box of PG Tips from 500 yards away to show off my talent and make my point peacefully but heroically?... Could the fox jump into my arms and lick my face gratefully afterwards, perhaps? While everyone cheers? Then we could go down to the karaoke bar where everyone could be astounded by my naturally beautiful voice that they had no idea about...

derxa · 17/10/2018 14:36

I'd love to research my family tree or have it done in the Who Do You Think You Are style
Write a memoir or novel based on my farming exploits
One of my sheep to win the Royal Highland Show
Be able to back up a trailer

GallicosCats · 17/10/2018 14:39

Write a book. I can't seem to get past about 3000 words before things run out of steam.

On the other hand perhaps it's for the best that I don't inflict my efforts on anyone. Grin

Annandale · 17/10/2018 14:46

@GallicosCats have you tried NaNoWriMo? I dod it last year and didnt finish my book but i wrote almost 30,000 words which was a whole lot more than id ever managed before. Just in time to sign up for this year...?

Cattenberg · 17/10/2018 15:21

I've been lucky enough to go to some of the places mentioned, including Iceland. I didn't really see the Northern Lights, but did get to go inside a blue ice cave which I was very excited about.

I'd still like to:

Go to Namibia, especially Sossusvlei

Find an idyllic beach with white sand, warm turquoise waters and palm trees

Fly down this zipline between two villages in Italy www.volodellangelo.com/eng/web/item.asp?nav=41

Write a novel

Swim between two countries (I can't see myself ever being up to the Channel, so maybe Denmark and Sweden), or at least between two islands

Get a proper career, or become an expert in something

Create a really beautiful garden

MinaPaws · 17/10/2018 15:32

@Therealjudgejudy - You're walking the entire length of the Great Wall? I am deeplyy envious. How are you doing this? If it's with an organised tour would you share who?

yawning801 · 17/10/2018 16:47

This thread has really made me smile - I love hearing about people's dreams! I'm not a traveller but I'm hopefully going on a cruise next year, hoping to see Venice!

Yawning back home to Ireland, v happy here but no place like home!

DarlingNikita · 17/10/2018 17:55

It's mainly things I want to study/learn more about, now I think about it:

  • indexing (boring but true)
  • Tudor history
  • linguistics
  • musicology
  • singing

Also desperate to go to Iran, travel the Silk Road, see Iceland, Canada, Oregon, Detroit, the Swedish west coast islands, St Petersburg and Odessa, Georgia (the country not the state, although I wouldn't turn down a trip to Georgia USA either), Hokkaido to see the lavender fields, the Białowieża Forest…

God, I'd better get started Grin

Therealjudgejudy · 17/10/2018 19:23

@minapaws I'm doing it with make some noise charity.

AE1234 · 17/10/2018 19:27

I always wanted to be a surrogate. I got too ill and couldn't.

Really sad that I couldn't give someone the chance to be a Mummy.

yawning801 · 17/10/2018 19:30

That's lovely molly, hope you get to go home soon.

I hope you're feeling better now AE, I'm sorry you never got that chance.

HazelBite · 17/10/2018 19:40

I would like to be a mascot at a football match for my team (Tottenham Hotspur) when I was child in North London they didn't do the "walking out with the team"that they have done in recent years, I've clearly missed out!

LuluBellaBlue · 17/10/2018 19:42

My immediate thought when I read your headline was ‘get arrested’ Confused

Everyone else’s are wonderful ideas though!!
