Is suiting the car you drive a thing?

My friend was very flattered to be told yesterday that she suited the car she drove. I can’t even begin to think of factoring in whether you suit a car when buying one! (Not sure that she actually did, but still!).

Anyway - got me thinking. I drive a fiat (using the term “drive” loosely - it starts on probably 2 times out of 10). So if my fiat suits me - what am I like?!

I’m thinking there’s mileage (hah) in this for a mn game - tell us what you drive and we’ll describe you. Or pick a car and tell us what sort of owners it suits?!

Ps My lovely Ds drives an Audi - just trying to preempt any insults ...

I have 3 cars, all very different makes so I don’t think this would work for me!

RailedOff · 10/10/2018 20:09

Oh :( I was all geared up for a good guess then! How do you decide which car to drive on which day?

I drive the new Mercedes A class in silver... describe me Grin

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 10/10/2018 20:15

I did mention to the BMW salesman that I didn't think I was up to the usual BMW owner standard as I can't wear a white shirt without getting a food stain on it and I wobble when I walk in high heels. He creased over laughing and sold me a BMW anyway, but now that I think back, he didn't disagree with me.

Oh my first customer (scared now!).

Ok Stop you’re mid 30’s, female, blonde. You have 2 children who aren’t tiny but are perhaps aged 8-14. You are independent, career minded and um, that’s it for now!

What does my (flattered) friend look like? She drives a TT.

What do knackered (referencing the car) fiat drivers look like?

OP what car does your friend drive that suited her?

We have a VW Passat estate, what does that say about me??

Pebblespony · 10/10/2018 20:21

Im in an 11 year old Volvo estate.

RailedOff · 10/10/2018 20:21

Ah but Black wearing a white shirt, stained or otherwise, and heels, walkable in or otherwise, qualifies you to drive a high end car imo :) I dream of white shirts ...

I must be a similar person to Pebblespony, our estate is a similar age too.

insertrandomusername · 10/10/2018 20:24

I drive an Audi A3 or dps Audi s5 ... I'll be amazed if you get remotely close to describing me :)

Thatstheendofmytether · 10/10/2018 20:24

Sometimes I see people start to look like their cars 😂 I do the same with people with pets. Obviously people look nothing like either of these things and I'm just a weirdo.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 10/10/2018 20:25

Ooooh that’s a good question! Depend on where I’m working I guess, if I have any country lanes to go down, if I need to go shopping etc. Sometimes it’s just down to which one takes my fancy. (I’m a car whore, Im collecting them) Grin

RailedOff · 10/10/2018 20:25

Pebbles you love your car, you live semi rurally, you have horses (didn’t at all look at your user name for a clue), you’re friendly and approachable.

I drive a nearly-new volvo xc60 with a nice plush interior. The car is way posher / prep-school-ier than I think I am - I have imposter syndrome whenever I drive, and particularly when I put the heated seats on 😂

WutheringFrights · 10/10/2018 20:27

I drive a Nissan Navara & a T2 VW Campervan ... please describe me 😊😊

SeaGlassHunter · 10/10/2018 20:27

I drive a silver Hyundai i10

Petalflowers · 10/10/2018 20:31

I remember seeing a largish lady in a Beetle.. It accentuated her shape. It didn’t’t suit her at all.

A see a TT driver as someone in their late 20s or 30s. She is well groomed , ie. nice hair, well dressed, maybe wearing fashionable sunglasses. She is stylish.

Pebbles pony - very apt name for a Volvo estate driver, I see Volvo estate drivers as earthy drivers. The car will probably have a muddy pair of walking boots in the boots. The owner is an outside person, liking horses, cycling, rambling etc. They do care about their appearance, but will be as happy in a fleece or Barbour, as a smarter coat.

RailedOff · 10/10/2018 20:33

insert you are easy going and reliable. You’re competent and practical. You also have 2 dc, probably youngish ones.

Ooh this is hard! Help me out fellow mn’ers!

I drive a white bmw 4 series coupe with black alloys and a red interior... describe me please 😬

Racecardriver · 10/10/2018 20:37

Not me but someone in my town drives a vintage postal van like the little one in the photo except it is mostly black.

Is suiting the car you drive a thing?
RailedOff · 10/10/2018 20:38

Oh Petals, thanks for weighing in! My friend is older than your guess, she is stylish but not in an elegant/classic way, and very glamorous - at least I think she is. She doesn’t.

My favourite ever car was a Fiat 500 with red leather seats with cream leather piping and stickers of trails of ivy growing out of my engine compartment. I suspect that gave people quite a different impression of me than when I was driving a VW Tiguan.

Sigh. I have epilepsy & have to get the bus or walk. What does that say about me...

winchesterfan · 10/10/2018 20:41

I drive a white Citroen c1
