Horrified by phone/wifi bill - how much do you pay?

OK admission: I am crap and never check my bills. But today I did and I am paying BT £141 for a month of fast broadband and phone calls.

It roughly splits as £52 for internet and £82 for phone calls from our landline. These calls are not extreme - we are out all day and call eg our parents at night, and maybe a couple of short mobile calls every day.

82 quid is a bit extreme for a month's landline use, isn't it?

Or is this normal?

What do you all pay?

BT are overpriced scumbags!
I pay £41 quid a month for sky tv, phone and broadband!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 07/10/2018 20:39

I don't have a landline phone, I don't know anyone who still uses them.
BithchQueen, you don't know anyone who lives rurally do you? Grin

We habe a landline because there is almost no mobile service in our village. We pay just under £30 for the line plus internet, and then additional.payments for any calls made. My mum has just phoned me to tell me she's sent me a text! I still haven't got the text..

Fatted · 07/10/2018 20:39

Who the bloody hell are you phoning that it's cost you that much money for calls?! Don't you have a package for free calls to landlines in the evenings etc?!

We don't use our landline. I disconnected it when the kids were little to stop them playing with it. You are paying more than we are a month for Sky's top spec broadband, landline and the top spec TV package (we have Sky Q, HD, movies and sports) and with a film bought off the online store as well!

AnalAimee · 07/10/2018 20:42

Why are you using a land line to call mobiles? If you do live rurally as above then use the Wi-Fi to make calls.

3WildOnes · 07/10/2018 20:44

We pay £60 for sky tv, broadband and land line. We don’t actually plug a phone in. We pay £20 each for our mobile contracts with unlimited free calls.

makingmiracles · 07/10/2018 20:53

I pay £38 a month with talktalk for line rental, calls and unlimited fibre

Only stipulation is having to hang up and redial if call duration looks like it’ll go over 60mins, if it goes over it costs loads.

Rarely call mobiles on landline, use our sim only contracts £5pm for that as have 600mins on them which hardly ever use up each month.

Yours seems extortionate, is anyone calling premium rate? Or just high volume of mobile calls? Can you use a mobile to make mobile calls instead?

overagain · 07/10/2018 20:56

That's ridiculous! We pay £24.50 for unlimited superfast broadband (including phone line, though we don't actually have a phone plugged in). I pay £13 for my mobile and DH £11, other than the occasional 0845 number we don't go over.

So that's £48 total.

I don't remember the last time I used a landline.

ItWasntMeItWasIm · 07/10/2018 20:58

We have a landlines as mobile signal not good enough to make calls. Also mobiles are PAYG.

Luvly12 · 07/10/2018 21:00

Ring BT , you may be out of contract ... if you recontract you will likely get a nice discount of you package.
Try to stop using your landline though, call charges can mount up but are avoidable.

PinkBuffalo · 07/10/2018 21:02

That is a lot. I pay 44.50 a month to BT for phone & Internet. This includes a package that gives me unlimited calls to other landlines. Means I can make calls without worrying about the cost!

DieAntword · 07/10/2018 21:05

We’re paying 17.99 a month for line rental and broadband (not fast because there isn’t the infrastructure for it here) we don’t have a calls package because we always use our mobiles.

Don’t ask how much our Mobile contracts are though!

DonnaDarko · 07/10/2018 21:08

We pay virgin £45 for everything. We only ever use our mobiles for calling as we're both with O2 and we get unlimited minutes.

I think you need to look at the itemised billing and work out why your bill is so high. It's possible BT is only giving you free evening and weekend minutes so you need to restrict your calls to that.

Also £52 for internet is extreme. Make sure your package includes unlimited downloads or your data usage could stack up if you do a lot of streaming.

huggybear · 07/10/2018 21:14

Internet and phone circa £35.

t00dle00 · 07/10/2018 21:22

£40 a month for sky package (no movies), fibre optic broadband and landline.

FrangipaniBlue · 07/10/2018 22:12

I pay £125 to sky for:

  • tv (everything except sport)
  • unlimited super fast broadband
  • landline rental
  • my mobile phone contract (unlimited calls and texts, 5gb data)
  • DS mobile contract (unlimited calls and texts, 1gb data)
  • my mobile phone (iPhone 8s)

You are absolutely paying way too much!!

vampirethriller · 07/10/2018 22:32

£26.99 per month to italk for unlimited broadband and landline all calls included.

Miladymilord · 07/10/2018 22:34

30 a month. Talk Talk
Internet, phone. We rarely use the landline for calls tbh

Graphista · 07/10/2018 22:40

😱 that is a LOT of money but then BT are known for being among the most expensive while not providing a decent service you'd expect from paying more!

That said - EXACTLY how much of the phone bill is phoning mobiles? It is NEVER a good idea to call mobiles from landlines it's ridiculously expensive. Mobile to mobile is better.

and maybe a couple of short mobile calls every day - ridiculously poorly informed action. Do you even know what your per minute charge to mobiles is? Entirely possible for that bill to be accurate if you're DAILY calling mobiles!

Oh - and you're paying about double for Internet than I do - which is through Plusnet which is basically a bt subsidiary now unfortunately.

I'm currently £30approx a month for landline and bb. That includes all calls to landlines at any time and discounted calls to Europe.

But I did get higher bills at one point as dd was calling her friend on her mobile as the friend had been going way over on usage and her parents had reined her in! Pointed out to dd the bills and the cost per minute which shocked get and she stopped doing it.

LaLaLamp · 07/10/2018 22:41

£62 for line rental, phone with free calls after 7pm week nights and all day weekends, super fast broadband and sky tv (HD, Sky Arts, Documentaries)
Mobile not included but don't pay as work one

PatchworkGirl · 07/10/2018 22:43

Around £30 a month for unlimited broadband and more calls than we use (anytime and mobile).

ZolaGreySheperd · 07/10/2018 22:48

I pay £17 for my internet; don’t use a landline but it is included in my package. Don’t have tv. I pay about £40 for my mobile. Can’t believe I was reluctant to pay £17 seeing some of these!

chipsandgin · 07/10/2018 22:53

About £35 a month for broadband and landline with unlimited calls to mobiles and landlines. You need to go to moneysavingexpert.com, you could have an extra £1000 a year in your pocket!

BubblesBubblesBubbles · 07/10/2018 22:54

I pay £35 for super fast fibre with free calls however we don’t have a landline phone (all use mobiles)

I think that’s Bt as they were the cheapest at the time. However we do chop and change as soon as a price hike happens

Redglitter · 07/10/2018 22:55

I pay about £45 a month to BT for unlimited calls and BT infinity broadband

Dodie66 · 07/10/2018 22:57

About £50 with Bt for landline, free anytime calls and broadband
