My date suddenly started singing at the top of his lungs

I went out on a first date yesterday night with a man met on OLD.

I feel like he made such a fuss to organise what he thought was “the perfect date”. He took me to a park to show me a romantic spot (he even said he had planned the stroll from where we met to the park, in order to ensure the stroll was scenic and romantic enough!). After drinks and dinner, he insisted on taking me to a romantic belvedere terrace to show me the view, even though I said I was feeling cold.

Once we get to the belvedere, suddenly the guy starts singing “Bella Notte” from the Lady and the Tramp. Properly singing at the top of his lungs, like he was the protagonist of a musical. He then insisted I should sing with him too, and he got visibly disappointed when I said I can’t really sing. He kept singing for a solid 5 minutes and attempted a few dance moves too, while people nearby were staring at us in disbelief.

I genuinely feel like I should delete all dating apps and resign myself to a life of singledom, if this is the alternative Shock

ShockGrin

No don’t delete the dating sites, we would miss such amazing stories! At least he tried...! Sounds like he is well meant but can you imagine how much planning would go into everything if you lived with him! Hope this story helps on future dates as it will make anyone laugh!

Did you leave immediately afterwards?! I’ve had some rotten dates but that beats mine hands down

Did you suggest that he may want to consider perhaps being a little less intense? Jeez.

Knittedfairies · 03/10/2018 12:25

Did you see any cameras? Sounds mad otherwise...

Rainbowturkey · 03/10/2018 12:25

That’s fantastic. I’m not sure whether I would have wanted the ground to swallow me up or if I would have wet myself laughing!

Fightthebear · 03/10/2018 12:25

Dear god Grin

MrsMozart · 03/10/2018 12:25

Okaaay.

Sounds like he really wanted to make an impression!

Where's your next date...Grin

Racmactac · 03/10/2018 12:26

Omg. Is there not a dating thread in classics. If not that deserves top spot 😂

Smishsmash · 03/10/2018 12:28

He sounds ... different. Will you go on a second date? You could be a duo on X factor next time. Grin

Rebecca36 · 03/10/2018 12:30

How deeply embarrassing! Entertaining for us though and you'll look back on the date and laugh.

Give him a miss, let him down gently but maybe it wouldn't hurt to tell him why, politely. He is after all looking for someone special and many people would be put off by his OTT behaviour. Up to you. Who knows, he may meet a girl who does the same.

Rainbowturkey · 03/10/2018 12:33

I think for a second date he would hire a string quartet and take you on a hot air balloon ride to serenade you in the sky!

ShirleyPhallus · 03/10/2018 12:35

I went on a date once and the guy got so drunk he got arrested

Another time I went on a date with a guy who was quite coy about what he did (small time musician / actor) until he got "spotted". Still never sure whether that was a fan or a mate planted there.

Sonjing · 03/10/2018 12:35

Will you go on a second date?

Over my dead body!

Oh give him a chance! He sounds funny Grin

AviatorShades · 03/10/2018 12:48

Dear God! (wipes eyes) what a, well, unique, experience!Grin
Bet his next (cos in his mind there will be a next), will be when a storm comes through cos, yes, I can just see him doing his Fred Astaire Singing in the Rain routine, complete with snazzy footwork and just one umbrella - the one he needs to twirl.
While,meanwhile, you get soaked Grin
G'won, you know you'll love it..

notimaginingit · 03/10/2018 12:49

This reminds me of a date I went on years ago when karaoke was first fashionable.
I worked with him, didn’t really like him that much - I suppose I was curious, thought he might improve when out and relaxed, etc.
He was very good looking in a young Alec Baldwin sort of way. He suggested this karaoke bar, which seemed weird when it was just the two of us.
Things got a lot weirder when he put his name down for a song.
I still thought he was just winding me up .. but no. He actually stood on the mini-stage, by himself, wearing a suit and tie and singing some shit song (Mac the Knife or whatever).
I was absolutely Mortified. Kicking myself for not following my instincts. I didn’t have the heart to walk out of the place while he was up there, but feigned illness & went home straight after.

He fucking loved himself.

notimaginingit · 03/10/2018 12:50

My point is, maybe there’s lots of them out thereWink

Sonjing · 03/10/2018 12:51

Notimaginingit this is a terrifying thought.

You could share a plate of spaghetti!

MistressDeeCee · 03/10/2018 12:54

I like the sound of him😂

If quirky isn't your type best leave it there tho

Really I want you to go on a 2nd date so we can hear the next instalment

AviatorShades · 03/10/2018 12:55

Oh yes, perhaps a hot air balloon ride..
"Up, up and awa-a-y in my beautiful, my beautiful balloon" yep, can see that working tooGrin

Meanwhile, of course, you have to recover from the godawful coff'n'cold you caught yesterday, when you got so chilled. And which he ignored, cos that wasn't part of his Grand Plan?

Proper catch, him. What a Gent.

Menalight · 03/10/2018 12:56

Shock singing AND dancing by HIMSELF? i'd have pretended to go to the toilet and just left him there. So what did you do afterwards?

londonfieldz · 03/10/2018 12:56

Amazing.

Tinty · 03/10/2018 12:57

Sonjing Someone though, not me, I'd have died of embarrassment , would think that he was amazing and probably would have joined in with the singing and eventually have a fun story to tell their grandchildren. Smile
