Shark vaccum, come tell me the good the bad and the ugly?

Our beloved Hetty has finally decided to retire after 12 long years of service.

I’ve been browsing all the different options and getting rather bamboozled.

Saw that Shark were offering £150 off and the free true pet thingy so I’ve snapped and on a whim bought it.

I’m usually an uber thorough researcher so I’m panicking now.

Could you lovely people tell me what you like/don’t like about your Sharks? I’ve gone for the Duo Clean powered lift away vaccum.

I use one at work and it's like being on the Krypton Factor putting it back together!

justasyouare · 01/10/2018 17:57

Love mine and I think it’s the same one! Lifts all sorts of crap from my carpet, prefer it to my previous dyson and vax.
Only gripe is the container bit is quite small so needs emptying pretty quickly but other than that it’s fab!

Juststopit · 01/10/2018 17:57

Had mine 6 weeks and I love it! Two dogs and a cat and carpets and hard floors are hair free. Quite heavy but so worth it. Mikes better than my old dyson any day.

I think we bought the same one also on a whim about 12 months ago. I love it. The pet attachment is great for the stairs! It's also a lot easier to manoeuvre and carry than a henry. It's easy to empty. And i really like the lights on the front, i thought they were gimmicky at first but it's actually really useful!

donajimena · 01/10/2018 18:02

I've used my clients. I love it. The only downside is the battery life.

FreckledNose · 01/10/2018 18:03

I have the lift-away and the cordless. They are both amazing and remove pet hair and other stuff brilliantly. I feel a small thrill when I empty out the container. All the variations and tools take a bit of getting used to but they are easily the best cleaners I’ve ever used. The cordless is particularly good on the stairs and at cleaning the edges of the room.

Softpebbles · 01/10/2018 18:03

Love mine but yes the different bits take some getting used too. Lovely long cord. The hose bit does my head in as it pops out of the little hole where it’s meant to hold it sometimes. Goes under funiture a fair bit.
Like the switch that flicks from hard floor to carpet.
I’ve had a Hetty, dyson, vax and a gtech. ‘‘Tis my favourite. It lifts the pile up well too.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 01/10/2018 18:03

Ooh good that’s reassuring. I always get a bit jittery about big purchases so it’s nice to be told I haven’t thrown my money down the hole.

@Aprilislonggone luckily DP is brilliant at that sort of thing. I’m properly hopeless.

@Juststopit I’ve the worlds hairiest dog and an even mix of hard floor and carpet so hopefully if it works for you it’ll tick the boxes for me.

I’m excited to use the true pet doodad. Bastard Dog has a habit of getting cosy on the sofa and it gets covered.

I love mine. I find the battery life better than a dyson (had one before the shark). The only downside is it can overheat a bit. Doesn’t do any damage, I just make sure I don’t do all the vacuuming in one session. I find it much lighter and easier to handle than the dyson.

RussetGusset · 01/10/2018 18:31

I have the liftaway and love it. Someone on here recommended sharkclean.eu/uk/product/caddy-for-nv680/this to turn it into a pull along.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 01/10/2018 18:59

I’ve got the corded so I don’t have to worry about battery life. I was tempted by the cordless but decided to stick to what I know.

I’m so glad no ones told me it’s crap Grin.

@RussetGusset Ooh I love that! Looks bloody fab. Cheers.

I have the liftaway and it's fab... it pretty much lifts the carpets away upstairs, and is great on the wood floors downstairs. Easy to empty too. Had ours a year and it is SO much better than my old Dyson!

ShirleyPhallus · 01/10/2018 19:10

Echo everyone else’s comments, I have one and I love it

MimsyBorogroves · 01/10/2018 19:12

I love mine - I have the liftaway. It gets the carpets clean despite 3 cats, 2 kids, 1 dog.

Only pain is that it falls over a lot whilst I'm using it. But maybe that's my technique.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 01/10/2018 19:39

@MimsyBorogroves I’m used to that. Hetty is a right drunken layabout. She gets caught on the door frames or furniture and just topples over. Rolls about on her side all useless.

I love mine, I had Henry before, and the shark picked up so much out of the carpet the first time I used it that hadn't come up with the Henry.

Mossop17 · 01/10/2018 20:08

Lift away here and so much better than the Dyson k live mind and recommend to anyone who will listen!

Hidingtonothing · 01/10/2018 20:12

I honestly think I love mine more than DC Blush

ilooovechristmas · 01/10/2018 20:19

We had one got rid when we moved as our flat was damp got the DYSON V6, recently repurchased the Shark life away! Can't live without it .... LOVEEEE carpet lines

Zofloraborealis · 01/10/2018 20:33

Got a cordless Shark and it has CHANGED MY LIFE. Can't recommend it highly enough x

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 01/10/2018 21:12

Ooh I’m getting really excited about it now!

Hetty has been a little under the weather for a while now but I’ve been soldiering on with her.

She keeps looking at me, I think she knows.

We used to have a pet dyson, thought it was o.k. We have a mix of wooden floors and carpet. And 2 girls with long hair that sheds all the time and 2 house rabbits who when the seasons change moult like crazy.

I got a shark lift away last year, I couldn’t believe how much got hoovered up on the first use despite having just hoovered that morning with the dyson !
Love the lift away function, makes doing the stairs so much easier.

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 01/10/2018 21:31

Love mine.

Much lighter than a Dyson, the lift away is brill.

Can’t fault it.

TomHardysNextWife · 01/10/2018 21:36

I've got the liftaway and love love love it. It copes well with hard floors, carpets and dog/cat hair. My only gripe is the small cylinder and it's tendency to topple over when using the hose but after a Dyson it's a doddle to clean out and the parts all dry really quickly. I am very pleased with mine and even DH grudgingly admits it's better than the old Dyson... he didn't think we needed a new one.

insertimaginativeusername · 01/10/2018 21:38

I've also been looking at replacing my dying Dyson with a shark, is it this one?
