Did anyone else love Soft Cell?

Totally my era. I was 16 and doing the only gay bar in town. It never checked ID. I was gutted when my friends mum let her travel all the way from up north to London to go and see them. I cried for days. Now they are playing their last ever gig on Sunday and some friends are going. Never got me a ticket though —i will remember thar when Glastonbury comes out next week— I cant believe its being live streamed across the country! I thought we were the only people in the world that loved them. Anyway, im tempted to go to a London screening on my own. It might be abit weired, will it? www.softcell.co.uk/cinema-screenings/

Loved them! One of my first singles were Soft Cell.

Aprilislonggone · 28/09/2018 18:34

He was on Lorraine yesterday!! Very plastic!

MrsPatmore · 28/09/2018 18:38

Me, me! Loved every song and got in a lift once with Marc Almond. As an aside Marc and the Mambas did a brilliant album too but I can't remember its name (black and red cover with a snake). One of my top ten albums.

DioneTheDiabolist · 28/09/2018 18:39

I loved them. I practically wore out my Non Stop Erotic Caberet cassette.💘

haverhill · 28/09/2018 18:39

Didn’t ‘love’ them but thought they were really good. Marc’s such a character.

IndigoSpritz · 28/09/2018 18:42

Marc Almond wasn't the best singer; powerful voice but a little out of tune (Say Hello, Wave Goodbye). An all right bloke really. I once saw him wearing winkle pickers you could have tripped over from a mile away ! Was David Ball behind that Swamp Thing record about twenty five years ago ?

PlatypusPie · 28/09/2018 18:43

I liked, though wouldn’t say loved, them in their heyday. Saw Marc Almond guesting with Jules Holland at an event in the summer and he was amazing - such energy and showmanship .

MadisonAvenue · 28/09/2018 18:44

I loved them. I bought Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret with some of my Christmas money and played it to death, still love it now.

I used to be in my element in the 80s when the Tainted Love Where Did Our Love Go 12" was played in clubs.

Armchairanarchist · 28/09/2018 18:50

I'm going to see them at the O2 on Sunday night. x

MrsPatmore · 28/09/2018 18:57

Envy. Going to try to get tickets to a local screening for Sunday ...

EachandEveryone · 28/09/2018 18:59

You will have a better view at the cinema! Do you think many people would go

I wasn't a huge fan of Soft Cell but I do like Marc Almond. I last saw him probably just over 18 months ago at thn Royal Northern College of Music.
He was really good fun and put on a great show.

Armchairanarchist · 28/09/2018 19:08

We've got really good seats. It's DH that's the huge fan He was a new romantic, a proper 80's boy. He wanted to be there for the atmosphere.

ForalltheSaints · 28/09/2018 19:15

Saw them on Later with Jools Holland on Tuesday and it brought back memories. Heard Marc Almond at the Royal Albert Hall with Jools Holland.

Being able to have a final gig on your own terms is in my way a lovely way to finish. Just as Runrig did.

TheyDoItOnPurposeLynne · 28/09/2018 19:16

@IndigoSpritz That was the Chamleons. One of my top 10 fave songs!

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 28/09/2018 19:21

OMG YES! Saw them again on Jools Holland the other day, I love love love Marc Almond, everything about him. Currently playing Bedsitter, Tainted Love, and Say Hello, Wave Goodbye (plus loads of others inc his solo stuff) on repeat in the car on every journey!
Wanders off singing....Standing in the door of the pink flamingo, crying in the rain.....

PhilomenaButterfly · 28/09/2018 19:24

I saw him in Borders in Glasgow doing a Radio 1 thing. He didn't look great then either, and that must've been the '90s.

HerBigChance · 28/09/2018 19:26

Oh I really liked them and Marc Almond has a distincitve and memorable voice, he's a proper survisor of the era. 'Bedsitter' is an incredibly evocative song.

BestIsWest · 28/09/2018 19:31

Tainted Love was number one when I first went to university. It was constantly on the jukebox in the Students Union. As soon as I hear it, I’m 18, at Freshers week with a lager and lime in hand again, wearing burgundy suede chukka boots and my hair cut In a fringe like the girls in the Human League, trying desperately to look cool.

RomanyRoots · 28/09/2018 19:31

I loved their music in the 80's, brings back loads of memories.

Horsemad · 28/09/2018 19:33

OP, you have to go or you'll spend the rest of your life regretting it!

Ontheboardwalk · 28/09/2018 19:38

Do it, get your ticket booked. You’ll regret it if you don’t

I’ve seen him twice at Rewind festival and he was fantastic!

I’m off to google cinemas near me showing it

Miljah · 28/09/2018 19:42

My love for them was never tainted.

Nope. Not me... 😊

Kezzie200 · 28/09/2018 19:43
