Did anyone else love Soft Cell?

Totally my era. I was 16 and doing the only gay bar in town. It never checked ID. I was gutted when my friends mum let her travel all the way from up north to London to go and see them. I cried for days. Now they are playing their last ever gig on Sunday and some friends are going. Never got me a ticket though —i will remember thar when Glastonbury comes out next week— I cant believe its being live streamed across the country! I thought we were the only people in the world that loved them. Anyway, im tempted to go to a London screening on my own. It might be abit weired, will it? www.softcell.co.uk/cinema-screenings/

I didn't know this was on, going to try to persuade my friend to come with me to the cinema on Sunday 😁

Ietthemeatcake · 28/09/2018 20:20

They are also on Later with Jools Holland tomorrow night.

SheSnapsThenSheFarts · 28/09/2018 20:24

I've seen him at Rewind, he was really great. One year he invited his nephew on stage with him, imagine having him as an uncle? V cool.

augustusglupe · 28/09/2018 20:30

Me!! Although Japan were my very faves!!
Non stop erotic cabaret is a fantastic album still...oh I remember.. my poor dad...
‘Isn’t it nice, sugar and spice, luring disco dollies to a life of vice’ Grin

I loved Soft Cell. Their music was the soundtrack of my time at university & I still listen to them now.

Tentomidnight · 28/09/2018 20:42

I now have ‘Sex Dwarf’ stuck on loop on my head 🤣

DramaAlpaca · 28/09/2018 20:43

Haha Tento, me too Grin

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 28/09/2018 20:43

I wasn't a huge fan of all their stuff but one track I loved was Tainted Dub, a rare Dub version of Tainted Love / Where Did Our Love Go.

I've probably still got the 12" somewhere.

dudsville · 28/09/2018 20:45

My go to when I'm thinking of one ex in particular. .. "sometimes I feel I've got to. .."

MsRinky · 28/09/2018 21:33

Oh my, thank you for this, I've just booked tickets, after failing to get them for the gig. So excited! I shall wear my Disco Dolly sweatshirt.

Saw Marc at the Roundhouse last year and he was great.

dozydaisy · 28/09/2018 21:40

Saw Marc in June at let's rock Shropshire and he was awesome !

Ontheboardwalk · 28/09/2018 21:46

The Associates

Oh .....Party Fears Two ........I'm going off to listen to that on YouTube now.

I used to love Soft Cell, everyone at school was gabbing on about MA standing naked at a gig and covering his body in catfood .

HemanOrSheRa · 29/09/2018 09:01

EachandEveryone Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! I didn't know the concert was being shown in cinemas until you posted. I have booked tickets to watch it at our local Everyman cinema. Sooooo excited! Smile

I'm going with my friend who loves Marc Almond/Soft Cell as much as I do. We've seen him perform twice in the last year . My friend thanks you too Grin.

MsRinky · 29/09/2018 09:44

Oh, I'm out in the sticks, not in London.

buggerthebotox · 29/09/2018 09:50

Yes. Saw Marc Almond with Jools recently too. He was fab and looks about 12 (he's 60 I think). Whatever he's on, I want some!

Onesmallstepforaman · 29/09/2018 09:53

Also going to the O2 for Sunday. View might be better at the cinema, but the atmosphere will be better live (and I can get a t-shirt from the last ever gig, cos I don't have far too many band t-shirts already, oh no😂)

Charley50 · 29/09/2018 09:57

@MadisonAvenue and @OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny - I've got that 12 inch. Absolutely love it.
I loved Soft Cell back in the day and their songs definitely stand the test of time.

SnailMailFan · 29/09/2018 12:07

You have to go. I loved them too

EachandEveryone · 30/09/2018 16:45

Oh I can’t go on my own! I wonder if the cinemas will be busy. It seems quite an extreme thing to do doesn’t it?

Watch the mirror, count the lines, the battle scars of all the good times Grin

Tainted Love is one of my all time faves. Might have to track down the CD of the albumn now.

EachandEveryone · 30/09/2018 17:19

They made you just want to run off to that London didn’t they?

What a place, what memories

EachandEveryone · 30/09/2018 19:16

We went to a place called Spiders and drank tarantulas and snakebites. Have the kids even got anything like it these days?
