Did anyone else love Soft Cell?

Totally my era. I was 16 and doing the only gay bar in town. It never checked ID. I was gutted when my friends mum let her travel all the way from up north to London to go and see them. I cried for days. Now they are playing their last ever gig on Sunday and some friends are going. Never got me a ticket though —i will remember thar when Glastonbury comes out next week— I cant believe its being live streamed across the country! I thought we were the only people in the world that loved them. Anyway, im tempted to go to a London screening on my own. It might be abit weired, will it? www.softcell.co.uk/cinema-screenings/

Have a snakebite for me (that featured on the factory 1980's this week) and enjoy! Grin

Oh I loved Soft Cell. That album was so... sleazy!
Sex Dwarf was great. And bedsitter... brings back those wild late teenage endless nights out!

My facebook is really annoying me now. Everyone seems to be there except me. Sad

Sooo good, really brought me back to the old days. Great to hear some of the lesser known material too. Marc has aged well, wish I could say the same.

A friend and I went to see Marc Almond at the Royal Festival Hall last year. Dear god his music is depressing.

Chapellass · 30/09/2018 23:31

I went - it was amazing, cried during the last song. Embarrassed my daughter Grin

We had an amazing evening watching the concert at our local Everyman cinema. Fantastic show!

HemanOrSheRa · 30/09/2018 23:34

My friend and me got a teary at the end Chapel.

I saw him play with Jools Holland a few years ago, he was fab! Say hello is a great song.

Armchairanarchist · 01/10/2018 01:14

Back at a Travelodge in Canary Warf and even here the atmosphere is lovely and friendly. The concert was fantastic from start to finish.

Bimblepops · 01/10/2018 01:23

They were absolutely brilliant this evening, very human and good fun. Marc’s voice is still amazing and Dave is hilarious, he looked like someone’s Dad who’s taken a wrong turn backstage and was too polite to say he was in the wrong place.
Have seen Marc a couple of times solo in the past 2 years, he was a lot less flamboyant this evening than he has been.
Loved the finale, (once Marc had got Dave back onto stage!)

Oh, it’s a shame it wasn’t streamed to our iPads!

@IndigoSpritz That was the Chamleons. One of my top 10 fave songs

There was the song Swamp Thing by The Grid that David Ball was part of. It was a huge hit sometime in the 90s.

The Chameleons song is completely different, but still a good song

I think we were lucky to be teens when we were. I wonder what misery our youngsters listen to when they are feeling fed up?

Went and watched at a cinema in the next city to us. Only about 15 people in. It felt odd to be sat watching and not up dancing and singing (though I was singing along). Thought he was in great voice and really funny. Loved the odd shambolic moment with forgetting lyrics and restarting songs 🤣

CoolCarrie · 01/10/2018 12:57

Honestly PLEASE GO !! Nobody will notice if you aren’t with anyone. I went to see Loving Vincent about Van Gogh on my own as everyone else was busy and it was the only screening of it in my area, it was lovely. You will regret it if you don’t. Soft Cell are brilliant. Loved Marc’s duet with Gene Pitney, and Bedsitter.

CoolCarrie · 01/10/2018 13:02

Hope you went ! I just noticed it was yesterday.

ginandbearit · 01/10/2018 13:17

I loved them then and i love them still...will this be on youtube or somewhere soon ?

bellinisurge · 01/10/2018 13:23

Best gig I ever went to (been to gazillions) was Marc Almond touring Vermin in Ermine.
Tainted Love by Soft Cell is actually better than the original Northern Soul classic.

darklady64 · 01/10/2018 13:56

Oh dear Lord it was fantastic! 20,000 people shouting "Sex Dwarf"! Love the description of Dave Ball upthread - that's just it! And Marc was great even when he went wrong. They made a huge space seem quite intimate. Oh it was wonderful.

The DJs were called Readers Wives - from where we were sitting the one on the right kept reminding me of Noel Fielding. They included 2 of my all time favourites (The Associates and The The) so they get my vote!
