Plus a cleaner, gardener, and chef.

Bobbiepin · 25/09/2018 21:14

Inside

A kitchen with an island and room for a proper table
A good sized playroom for DD
Ensuite & downstairs toilet in addition to a family bathroom

Outside
A driveway and garage with room for guests
A jungle gym type playground thing
A shady spot that I could put a reclining chair in during the summer and sit and relax.

I know it's not the biggest of aspirations but I would be truely happy with that.

  1. A view of mountains on one side, and sea on the other (Norway would work!)

  2. massive inglenook fireplace (I already have this actually and it is my favourite thing about the house)

  3. A secret room hidden behind a revolving bookcase in the library

  4. A field with ponies, goats, pigs and a jersey cow. Ok more than one field!

  5. A very long pergola with white wisteria dripping down (I’m working on this one)

  6. A natural swimming pond

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 25/09/2018 21:24

We were planning to build a house, so my dreams nearly came true, but we didn't get planning permission.

On paper it had inside,

  1. An upstairs laundry
  2. A back door beside the front door, the back door led into a mud room for returning footballers
  3. Two fridge freezers in the kitchen, one near the sandwich/snack/hot drinks prep area so the the family weren't walking across my kitchen all the time and the other fridge freezer for meal ingredients.

Outside

  1. A Victoria plum tree and some blackberry bushes
  2. A green drive with hollow paving with clover growing in the gaps
  3. A view - the house I was trying to build didn't have this but I do quite like a distance view, it relaxes my eyes.
stripeswitheverything · 25/09/2018 21:32

Trees

LemonysSnicket · 25/09/2018 21:33

Massive windows (obscenely)
A large stone stair case with with good acoustics.
An adults parlour (so in a mostly modern house one high up room with dark old woods, leather sofas, drinks cabinets and bookshelves galore)

A raised terrace porch
Room for 4 cars

camelfinger · 25/09/2018 21:38

My absolute dream house would have:

Recording studio/music room in the basement.
8 bedrooms in the main house and a guest house with two dormitory rooms and two double bedrooms it’s own small kitchen diner and tv/games room.
Wood and metal workshop and electronics workshop in a separate building.
Good public transport links.
Real fireplaces.
Library.
Playroom on the kids floor and kids bathroom.
Homeschool classroom.
Art studio room with a massive window and lots of light.
Computer room with a small scale robotics lab.
Home cinema room.
Gym.
Laaaaaaarge kitchen.
Breakfast room AND dining room.
Drawing room AND sitting room.
Riad style layout with inner courtyard with orange trees, pool and outdoor dining area.
Roof garden.
Wrought iron balconies.
A few acres of food forest and a few acres of pasture land with some sheep grazing.
Underfloor heating.
A girl to do the cleaning, another girl to mind the younger children and a boy to do the gardening - with their own private quarters in an annex.

I’m not sure it’s even that realistic for the very rich to have all that in one.

No near neighbours and long drive.
Equestrian facilities (stables, grazing and outbuildings)
At least 10 acres surrounding the house.

BellMcEnd · 25/09/2018 22:05

6 bedrooms with a master suite.
Big, warm utility with a washing machine, heated airers and shower room that’s directly accessible from the drive for muddy children and dogs.
One of those big staircases with a curved polished wood banister and a stair runner. Not a huge grand central one like in Annie or anything just a normal against-a-wall one but with the bannister I imagine in my head Grin

About 4 acres incl a small woodland and stream
A walled kitchen garden
Great big patio with an outside kitchen area - bbq, pizza oven etc.

Great thread!

LargeGlassOfPepsi · 25/09/2018 22:14

We have ours - after years of searching for it!

Inside
A boot/wet/large utility room
Enough rooms for us to have my craft room/own sitting room/DH study/office and separate sitting room/conservatory/huge kitchen diner that we can cook and entertain in
Indoor pool

Outside
It had to be very rural
Stables/outdoor school (indoor school currently in progress)/enough grazing for summer and winter fields
Large garden for entertaining and a kitchen garden

It's taken us nearly 25 years to get here but we found it and love it.

A downstairs bedoom and shower room
A large hall where there is plenty of room for people to get coats and shoes on without getting in anyones way
A craft room

Outside

A river/stream/ beach at the end of the garden
A driveway which is enclosed so I can garden without worrying the dog has gone off for a wander as she is bored
