Who the fuck pays £300 for a hairdryer?

Dyson hairdryer

I must live on planet scum with all the Argos types. Seriously, when did it become ok to charge £300 for a hairdryer? Very disappointing James if you're reading this, £50 would be more my price-point. Why can't the less economically advantaged of us benefit from your inventions too?

My mum has it and swears by it.

I borrowed it and didn’t think it was any better than my GHD one, so I stick with that.

To be honest though, a hairdryer is a hairdryer at the end of the day 😂 as long as it does the job it’s good enough for the rare occasion I use one!

KeysHairbandNotepad · 23/09/2018 08:49

A stylist would. I'd pay up to £30.

Solongtoshort · 23/09/2018 08:53

I bought my best ever hairdryer for £7.99 in a sale, it lasted 10+ years and had the longest cord ever, l used to walk about drying my hair.

Until my sil stayed over used it and bang it stopped working.

Still think about it now two hair dryers later when l am sat tugging the cord.

So £300 never.

It’s worth it to some people, I couldn’t se the point of spending £3000 on a watch or £60000 on a car either. They will all dry your hair, show you the time or take you from A to B

Elliemayclampett · 23/09/2018 08:55

I was given one for Christmas. I love it.

ElspethFlashman · 23/09/2018 08:56

Well there was a "favourite hairdryer" thread on here in the last month and every second answer was Dyson so apparently its MNers.

(Parlux came out on top, and I believe that's pretty expensive too)

People get a bit desperate when they have shit hair. As James Dyson knows.

Blueberriesandbananas · 23/09/2018 08:56

I think it's because some people gullibly buy into a 'name' and believe therefore that the product must be 'amazing' if it comes with a well known name/logo attached to it.

BatShitBrenda · 23/09/2018 08:58

Jesus wept! 300 quid?!!! Fuck off. Unless it's coating my hair in gold and diamonds no handheld contraption that just blows air is worth 300!

KlutzyDraconequus · 23/09/2018 09:00

If you have £1000, spending a £1 isn't much.
If you have £100000, spending £100 isn't much.
If you have £1000000, spending £1000 isn't much.
It's all relative.
I have £0 so spending anything is a lot.
Plus, i still have a £7 hairdryer from Tesco that I point at hair and it dries it...

bigsighall · 23/09/2018 09:01

Me 🤷‍♀️
Tbf it was a present but I have since been able to grow my hair long which I’ve never been able to do before as it snapped off. It does appear to be more gentle on the hair and it dries it blinking quick!

HavelockVetinari · 23/09/2018 09:02

I'd love one but can't justify the price. My mum has one and I wash my hair every time I go round, it sorts out stray frizzy bits amazingly and it's super-fast too.

RubyBoots7 · 23/09/2018 09:03

I have one. Previously bought professional type hairdryers like the parlux. IIn comparison the dyson is quieter, slightly quicker and leaves my hair softer (If you had limp hair it might make your hair too soft).

ArcadePixie · 23/09/2018 09:05

Love mine

Kindnessplease · 23/09/2018 09:05

My hairdresser has it. It's great in the salon as it's very quiet so he can still chat to clients and hear them. However, he said there's not much point having one at home unless you can afford it.

As a pp said, it's all relative. Plenty of shops sell polyester dresses for £50- £300 - why spend that when you can buy polyester clothing from Primark/New Look for £10-£30? But people still buy them and rave about them on Instagram.

liverbird79 · 23/09/2018 09:06

I have one. My partner bought me one because my hair had been ruined by bleach and was snapping off.

It's a lot gentler than other hairdryers and it's super quick. I have really thick hair.

kmc1111 · 23/09/2018 09:07

Me. Totally worth it. Cut my hair drying time down from 15 minutes to 3 and leaves my hair in much better condition.

Blueberriesandbananas · 23/09/2018 09:08

It also depends on whose actually using the hairdryer I believe.
If you use a cheap run of the mill dryer, but are a dab hand at styling hair, the finished product will look good!
Like wise, if you're using an all singing, all dancing, top of the range expensive dryer, but can't blow dry for toffee, the finished product won't look good!

Scrumptiousbears · 23/09/2018 09:08

Some of the girls I work with have these and can't wait to have a "hairdryer off" with the other less fortunate. Grin

MaryBoBary · 23/09/2018 09:12

I can’t get the link to work but if it’s the same article I read this morning about how he’s made £200mill from the hairdryer, then presumably almost 700,000 have one. Crazy money to me but as others have said, it’s all relative.

HRTpatch · 23/09/2018 09:14

I have one. And a Parlux. Smile

Bezalelle · 23/09/2018 09:14

Oh it's brilliant though.

My Dyson hairdryer and having microblading on my eyebrows are two of the most "worth-it" purchases I've ever made.

beanaseireann · 23/09/2018 09:16

HRTpatch
Which is better ?

Pebblespony · 23/09/2018 09:16

I love mine. It was a present.

GlitterGlassEye · 23/09/2018 09:16

I want one just from reading the comments. My hair is so thick and takes me about 25 mins to blow dry!

HouseyHausey · 23/09/2018 09:18

It's says in the news today eBay are selling them for £100 for a limited stock. Celebrating some eBay birthday milestone I think.
