Who the fuck pays £300 for a hairdryer?

Dyson hairdryer

I must live on planet scum with all the Argos types. Seriously, when did it become ok to charge £300 for a hairdryer? Very disappointing James if you're reading this, £50 would be more my price-point. Why can't the less economically advantaged of us benefit from your inventions too?

I love mine. It has cut my dying time by two thirds (15 to 5). Leaves my hair shiny and sleek. I rarely have to use my straighteners these days which also helps the condition of my hair.

HRTpatch · 23/09/2018 10:09

My hair takes ages to dry and the Parlux always felt heavy. Also Dyson easier to pack for breaks...I will never again leave it at home and use the hotel's pitiful hairdryer ( usually with no nozzle)

SleepFreeZone · 23/09/2018 10:09

I can’t forgive James for inventing that disgusting fucking hand dryer that blows bacteria into your face while it dries your hands. Gross. I’ll pass on the hairdryer thanks.

I have one. I like it. It was a gift.

BrazzleDazzleDay · 23/09/2018 10:19

£300 is obscene. My dm gave me a hundred odd quid infra red dryer, it is fucking shit!!

My 15 quid almost 15 year old nicky clarke one is rather good

JasperCopeland · 23/09/2018 10:49

Are they heavy? My dd has a GHD hair dryer, which she swears by, but I find it too heavy to hold above my head.

HRTpatch · 23/09/2018 10:57

Not heavy at all

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 23/09/2018 10:59

I would love to try one as I have really thick hair. However on Amazon they are from £300 to £450.
To be honest, if I had that kind of money, I would be putting it towards a range cooked or a snazzy fridge....

nicebitofquiche · 23/09/2018 11:13

Lots of people. I can't understand why people pay a grand for a handbag. But they do. It's up to them.

Thesearmsofmine · 23/09/2018 11:21

I have a really cheap hairdryer that I got when I was 17 and I’m nearly 35 now, it’s so good at drying my hair(which is long and very thick), I’ll be so sad when it finally gives up!

Racecardriver · 23/09/2018 11:24

It's the first advance in hair dryer technology for like 20 years. And apparently really worth it. Normal hairdryers really just make my hair look like a puff ball. I am seriously considering buying this thing.

Racecardriver · 23/09/2018 11:25

But the latest iPhone, that I don't get. It cost more than a mac

Tequilamockinbird · 23/09/2018 11:27

My DD and DH bought me one last Christmas. It's marvelous. Much better than my old Parlux, and better than DD's GHD dryer (hence it keeps disappearing from my room Angry).

Dries my thick hair in no time at all and leaves it so soft.

AimlesslyPurposeful · 23/09/2018 11:43

Can I ask how it dries hair more quickly than other hairdryers?

My main concern when buying a hairdryer is the weight as I’m a klutz and often drop it on my head. Blush
I look for a cool shot button and check that it has various speeds then the lightest one comes home with me.
That said, I wouldn’t spend £300.00 on one but as PPs have said, it’s relative.

SweatyFretty · 23/09/2018 11:56

It pumps an absolute fuck tonne of air.

LightastheBreeze · 23/09/2018 12:08

Does it dry curly hair as I have to air dry mine and it would be useful in the winter as PP mentioned

Fstar · 23/09/2018 12:12

I spent 80 on parlux and love it, cut drying time in half

ShotsFired · 23/09/2018 12:15

Why is it so hard to believe some people have the means and desire to buy something just because someone else can't or doesn't? This sort of reverse snobbery is most unpleasant.

We all prioritise different things.

For example I can't justify spending a fortune on clothes from Boden when there is get perfectly decent stuff from Asda. But for those that do - not my money, not my body, so have at it...

user1499173618 · 23/09/2018 12:15

I have one. It’s a huge time saver and it’s gentle on my hair.

paxillin · 23/09/2018 12:20

Unfortunately, it is the company's price point that matters. Otherwise the less economically advantaged among us would also benefit from Daimler or Aquascutum more.

liverbird79 · 23/09/2018 12:42

It sounds different aswell when you turn it on.

The drying sound isn't like a normal hairdryer

HashTagLil · 23/09/2018 13:32

@LightastheBreeze

I bought mine from QVC on 4 x easypay (they have it on offer quite frequently) and mine came with a diffusor. I don't have very curly hair so have not used it.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 23/09/2018 14:12

I wouldn't buy one without being able to try it first.

That said, I did buy a parlux a couple of years ago, and laughed at myself then for the sheer ridiculousness of paying that much for a hairdryer. But actually I do really like it: my hair is drier in the same amount of time and feels smoother.

(My idea of hairstyling is a round brush and 10 mins with the hairdryer. No product. I might use the tongs on a very special occasion. Previous hairdryers were around £15 and generally lasted a few years, but the later ones were dying young.)

EnidButton · 23/09/2018 14:34

My hairdresser tried to sell me one but after they used it on my hair I couldn't feel it see any difference. I also saw a couple of demo ones when they first came out and they had burnt bits inside the tube part so that completely put me off.

I use a Babyliss one and finish off with a parlux. The parlux is too slow and heavy to fully dry my hair,
but it does smooth and soften it so it's a good finisher.

I can understand why people would pay that for a hair dryer. I don't think it's worth that much though.

EnidButton · 23/09/2018 14:35

^ the Dyson ones are very quiet, I'll give them that. Look nice too.
