Who the fuck pays £300 for a hairdryer?

Dyson hairdryer

I must live on planet scum with all the Argos types. Seriously, when did it become ok to charge £300 for a hairdryer? Very disappointing James if you're reading this, £50 would be more my price-point. Why can't the less economically advantaged of us benefit from your inventions too?

Wish there was a hands free dryer so you can do your hair properly work both hands this I would buy

DemocracyDiesInDarkness · 23/09/2018 09:23

My Dyson hoover was bollocks, so I wouldn't waste money on any more of their products.

AngryAttackKittens · 23/09/2018 09:24

Does it do the hoovering and the dishes for me too? Because otherwise no.

I've been seriously considering it. But only if it's really good on reducing frizz but I don't know if it is.

horseymchorseface · 23/09/2018 09:25

My lovely sil gave me the use of her dyson hairdryer for 2 weeks in June. Was.Not.impressed.at.all. It made absolutely no difference to the end result & took slightly longer to dry my mumbob than my trusty philips 2300 which is getting on a bit but still does the job well😱. The Dyson hairdryer is A total swizz ime & laughingly over priced to boot, unless u happen to think 300 quid is not a lot & you are off out to buy 7. 1 for every day of the week 🤔

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 23/09/2018 09:26

My Mum has one (was a present from my Dad who probably couldn’t think of anything else!)

It’s really, really good. I’m deeply envious!

CaMePlaitPas · 23/09/2018 09:28

For £300 I'd want James Dyson round every morning to dry my hair!

LightastheBreeze · 23/09/2018 09:33

I wouldn't as I rarely use a hairdryer, I have a £12 I bought from M&S sale about 15 years ago and its great

I have got a Dyson fan though which cost £270 in the sale but is better than a £30 one I could have got instead, It all depends on wants, needs and budget.

Hwory · 23/09/2018 09:33

I have one. Most expensive thing I’ve ever bought for myself but I love it. I have very thick hair and it dries it much quicker and nicer than any cheapy babyliss etc that I’ve bought from Superdrug before.

I put it on a zero interest credit card but QVC have the easy pay 4 instalment plan if you can’t afford to pay in one go.

SweatyFretty · 23/09/2018 09:33

I really like mine but I got it for free. If it ever died I'd spend the money to replace it.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 23/09/2018 09:35

I'm embarrassed to admit that I did! It saves me a good 10 mins each morning and I love it!

Bought it at boots on a triple points day to make myself feel slightly less guilty!

LostInShoebiz · 23/09/2018 09:38

Talk why be embarrassed? Unless your children went without shoes so you could buy it you have every right to own nice things.

Hanyu · 23/09/2018 09:40

I once read an article about James Dyson's house. He has a lazy river and swimming pool complex in the basement.

I have mega curly hair, so I just wake up early and air dry. 'tis free, but takes hours. Sorry James

RedBlu · 23/09/2018 09:42

I got one when they first came out, well DP got it for me as a Christmas present.

They are nice to look at and it does dry my hair quicker but is it worth £300, probably not.

I think a lot of it is about the design and the fact it (should) last a long time.

LightastheBreeze · 23/09/2018 09:47

It is similar to buying the fan, you can get one for £30 but the Dyson one is nicer to look at and works better. If I used a hairdryer, I don't doubt I would buy the Dyson. I have curly hair though and don't really need it as I mostly air dry.

lakehouse · 23/09/2018 09:48

I bought one. Love it- dries so quickly and smooths frizzy hair. I suppose it's a bit like a premium car, the price point is whatever people are willing to pay and lots of people are willing to pay for this!

Sallycinnamum · 23/09/2018 09:48

Does it work on really curly hair? I never blow dry my hair. I just wash it and let it dry naturally which I can't do in the winter before work as I'd be leaving the house with sopping wet hair.

PiperPublickOccurrences · 23/09/2018 09:50

Really who cares? I personally wouldn't buy one, but if people want to then that's their business.

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 23/09/2018 09:53

I'd rather pay £100s for a good hairdryer that will last and do the job rather than some crap £30 one that needs replacing after a year.

bumblingbovine49 · 23/09/2018 09:53

My hairdresser uses one. She says it is great for her because
It is lighter so her arm doesn't ache after doing 10-15 blow does a day
It is quieter so she can talk without shouting over the dryer all the time

Also it says quickly but at a lower heat than a normal dryer so damages hair less ( it definitely felt less hot to me when she use for on me). When she bought it ( a while ago) it was £400 Shock and if it broke now she would get another one

However she did say it wasn't worth paying for it for just home use for yourself. We agreed that the technology (motor in the handle to reduce noise) and shape ( which probably helps with the low heat but drying just as ) quickly, might start to make their way into normal hairdryers soon.
Dyson seems to develop the technology, but cheaper versions usually get made eventually.

Seniorschoolmum · 23/09/2018 09:56

The salon I go to uses them. I asked. Apparently they dry hair in 40% of the time, cut the electricity bill and allow an extra appointment per day. So recoup about £50 a day -clearly worth it for them.

At home, I take the extra few minutes. Smile

ItWillAllBeOkayInTheEnd · 23/09/2018 09:59

I have one but it was a gift. It's very good, but I wouldn't pay that much for a hairdryer.

thethoughtfox · 23/09/2018 09:59

In the salon is go to they all use them. I bought a Babyliss one after reading a Top Ten list from the Independent. Parlux and Dyson were in it. Mine was £49 and it makes my hair really shiny and dries it very quickly.

MrsChollySawcutt · 23/09/2018 10:03

Me, well my DH as it was a birthday present. I love it, it's only since having it that I've been embraced my naturally curly hair and stopped feeling like I had to straighten it or look like Sideshow Bob.

Worth the money to me.

Enko · 23/09/2018 10:06

Dh gave me one for Christmas and I LOVE it.. I would spend it again even considering getting the children one. (Ds loves it too comes and borrows it)

I don't think its an exceptional amount of money. Expensive yes but not out of this world expensive.
