Who the fuck pays £300 for a hairdryer?

Dyson hairdryer

I must live on planet scum with all the Argos types. Seriously, when did it become ok to charge £300 for a hairdryer? Very disappointing James if you're reading this, £50 would be more my price-point. Why can't the less economically advantaged of us benefit from your inventions too?

Meh. I've got one. I like it.

I bought it because my hairdresser uses them. I have curly hair and need all the help I can get.

EnidButton · 23/09/2018 22:24

Are they really quick? That does sound tempting.
Seemed to take the hairdresser ages to drive my hair with one still. But then she was a new one and at first they tend to underestimate how much hair I have and don't section it enough so maybe it was that. I really liked how quiet it was and I do find the parlux one quite heavy. Maybe I should look into a Dyson again.

I've had my old faithful for about ,and it's just started smelling like a toaster. Thinks it's time to upgrade.

Bearing in mind I'll keep it for a decade again if I can... Do I want the parlux or the Dyson?

I spent that much on a robot hoover we use three times a week. I use the hairdryer all the time - every day for my hair and also for drying out DC’s wellies and urgent kit that’s clean but damp.

And DH has been drying his toes to kill his athletes’ foot.

Seriously considering buying one of these but can’t forgive the deeply shitty behaviour of Dyson’s vacuums.

So, yes, I’d buy one. But I’m going to have a go on one myself at my salon first and only if it really is good.

I am a stylist and have one. The pros are

  1. its lighter ((so my arms/ shoulders don't ache as much) 2)its quieter
  2. the diffuser is brilliant for wavy/curly hair

Apart form that, not much. In my opinion, it doesn't dry hair any quicker than my Parlux compact 3200.

Also, the cold shot doesn't work with the nozzle on, as the nozzle is hot and so the cold air is heated by the nozzle and feels hot.
Another con is it took me a while to get the feel of it as the buttons are not in a logical place when using on someone else (but ok on yourself).
But for all those using it on a salon, the warranty is not applicable apparently. Although not sure how they would know? But interesting that its not designed for salon use.

They are never going to get cheaper because demand far outstrips supply.

Bigpug this thread has now persuaded loads of people to buy this hairdryer Smile

£300 is a lot of money, but for something you and your family will use multiple times a day it’s actually fairly reasonable.

Nicknacky · 23/09/2018 23:39

I have one but justified it as I won £100of voucher, dad gave me £100 and I paid the rest.

What does irritate me is the magnetic attachments, I keep knocking off the attachment when I’m brushing my hair while drying it.

Sallycinnamum · 26/09/2018 14:36

On the strength of this thread I borrowed my friend's Dyson. I have very curly hair and never ever blow dry it as it just frizzes up and looks awful.

I've used it twice and it's fantastic. It's left my curls all glossy and defined, which is a total game changer for me as I wear my hair up most of the time as I hate going to work with wet hair. Oh and it only took 10 mins to dry.

I know it's bloody expensive and I wouldn't have believed it would be that good until I tried it out but I'll be buying one for sure now.

Bordercollies · 26/09/2018 15:46

I bought one last night. I won a fair amount of money last week and can finally justify one. Its been my only extravagance in a sea of sensible decisions Grin. I got it from QVC as if it doesnt work on my hair i can send it back within 30 days.
