Are there usually resident items that are always found in the stores, or is it like a big charity shop where you never know what will be awaiting you?

What should I look out for? I'd like clothes. Good, decent everyday/at home clothes.

Not visited a tx Maxx for yonks.

More like a charity shop.

AliceRR · 21/09/2018 18:20

It’s not like a charity shop but there aren’t many things that are there all the time. One thing I like about it is that it’s different all the time but there are certain brands that you will find time and time again.

PuppyMonkey · 21/09/2018 18:22

It’s a shop that fills me with depression - a rare thing indeed.Grin

You need a crab bell...

EssentialHummus · 21/09/2018 19:01

I find them good for Benetton stuff. And if you go in with “I want a stripey/spotty/red top / purple trousers” the selection is such that you’ll likely find it, imo.

DunkandEggAgain · 21/09/2018 19:34

What's a crab bell..?

At the moment they have a lot of crew jumpers and cardigans if you like them . They have a lot of Ralph Lauren , I got a gorgeous cardi last year from there for £25! Just loads , it isn't like a jumble sale or charity shop 🙄... the gym clothes are great too, mondetta are lovely thick gym leggings and cheap!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/09/2018 19:45

Ours has pretty much the same stuff it always has. I’ve stopped going now because they never have new things in (or just new items the same!)

I like the toiletries, but why oh why do they display them according to colour of packaging and not the actual product???

GenderApostate · 21/09/2018 20:37

DH got a Superdry parka for £60 on Tuesday from our local one. There were lots of men going through the racks whilst on their phones, presumably market traders or ebayers? I spotted the parka while one of them was rifling through the rack, swiped it right from under his nose - they are going for over £120 on ebay 😃

Autumnwindy · 21/09/2018 20:45

Tk max is utterly brilliant because if yiu want a jumper, all jumpers are on rail.

Rather than traipsing round every possible area in shop where a jumper might be lurking... It's all there.

One place!

Same with tops, trousers. I cannot bear going into a normal shop now wanting something specific and having to traipse around searching for them.

DunkandEggAgain · 21/09/2018 20:54

I've noted down Mondetta. Excellent.

Autumn great because I've about two hours spare at most to snifle out some clothing and that set up works in my favour.

There's a charity shop close by that I want to pop into. Im weirdly excited about that more than tx Maxx. (I'm mostly housebound).

Mumsnetters have mentioned toiletries, specifically soap bars so I'll look but I reaaaallly need clothes so I'll look at that last. I can't buy both.

Excited. Grin

If you've a baby to buy for, Gro-bags are generally half price in ours so I've saved a fortune.

IndigoSpritz · 21/09/2018 21:03

It's good for nice and inexpensive glassware, especially Dartington Crystal.

Lettherebelight · 21/09/2018 21:05

I have never found good clothes in ours but they have got Mahibi slippers at the moment and are good for baby stuff like changing mats they sell in Jojo etc. I'll check out the soap, thanks for the tip!

DunkandEggAgain · 21/09/2018 21:06

I'd love to buy the homewares but I've promised myself I'll buy clothes. I hardly have anything.

I love a good TK Maxx visit. Some trips are better than others.

I mostly (not always though) pick up things that have been marked down. I love the kitchen items, toys, children’s books and toiletries most of all.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 21/09/2018 21:07

My local TK Maxx was recently full of Eve Lom, Lipstick Queen and Nip & Fab.

CoolGirlsNeverGetAngry · 21/09/2018 21:10

Bloody love TK MAXX!!

DunkandEggAgain · 21/09/2018 21:16

What's a crab bell, though...!Confused

Thebeautifullisette · 21/09/2018 21:16

Oh now I’m starting to want to take a trip there tomorrow! I’ve got some great Nip+Fab stuff there in the past.

I don’t need anything though Blush.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 21/09/2018 21:19

There’s a Facebook group dedicated to the horrific things you can find in there. The crab bell is the most sought after jewel in the crown. It’s a cracking group to join :o

Thebeautifullisette · 21/09/2018 21:19

Crab bell?

I'm going to TX Maxx on Monday.
Notquiteagandt · 21/09/2018 21:24

You can get some good make up bargains on pallets etc in there. Toiletries to.

I really like their home stuff but tend to go to their specific home store for that. Think its called home sense or something.

DunkandEggAgain · 21/09/2018 21:35

Woah. Is that the crab bell..? I actually imagined a dangley chime type bell with bright red crab at top with a ding a ling at bottom to get our attention. 😂

I love weird and wonderful.

PlatypusPie · 21/09/2018 21:37

I hate the experience of going there- everything jammed together on the rail and so many very peculiar things. The home section is a nightmare of gaudy.

On the other hand, my favourite Crew top came from there at half price, recently bought a Jaegar jumper of beautiful fabric and, though I failed to get the very specific handbag I was looking for yesterday, I saw some lovely ones whilst I was looking.

Good dresses, especially evening/occasion, tops and sometimes sportswear. Staff are usually very pleasant.

So, I occasionally grit my teeth and go in.
