Are there usually resident items that are always found in the stores, or is it like a big charity shop where you never know what will be awaiting you?

What should I look out for? I'd like clothes. Good, decent everyday/at home clothes.

Not visited a tx Maxx for yonks.

Homesense is ace. My local ish one closed down and relocated to an area I never EVER go to. It was one of the few decent interesting stores relatively close to me. Everything else is generic same old branches selling the same old thing.
I still curl my lip at the insult.

I LOVE TK Maxx. Me and my sister are going with my baby DS on Monday and we keep talking about how excited we are Grin sad

I have recently bought

  • Korres shower gel for £3.99
  • Jaeger striped top for £19

And spotted Miller Harris perfume for £25 but didn't but it because I've got too much perfume already.

DunkandEggAgain · 21/09/2018 21:45

How long does a person "typically" spend in there? I've two hours at the most. I feel like I need to put a strategy in place to get the most of my trip.

The only things I've had success with in TK MAXX have been coats. I got a sprayway jacket for about £30 (half price) and a few weeks ago a craghopper warm long coat for £40 (also half price). I've found ski jackets too.

But i struggle to find normal clothes.

Huntlybyelection · 21/09/2018 21:51

I spend max 45 minutes as my brain just can't handle it any longer than that.

Namethecat · 21/09/2018 21:55

Another one who stocks up on the soap there. Bought some lovely Italian double milled last year, it lasts for ages as well.

NotMeNoNo · 21/09/2018 21:56

It's quite seasonal. ATM there's lots of knitwear, some coats, dressing gowns, blankets, boots. Guess Christmas stuff will be in soon if not already. I was hoping for some cashmere but didn't find anything.

I really like TK Maxx if you get it on a good day, loads of my clothes and home stuff are from there.

NotMeNoNo · 21/09/2018 22:00

Also winter accessories like leather gloves will be in now. I have a few labels I occasionally scan the website for too: Paul costelloe, Cynthia Rowley etc.

TomHardyswife · 21/09/2018 22:00

Love TK Maxx but I have to be in the right mood to go in and have a good rummage..

I went in yesterday and nearly bought a set of four gorgeous feather filled cushions for the sofa. I might go back to get them tomorrow but I don't actually need any cushions

Love their vases, serve ware and glassware

I bought some gorgeous summer dresses at the start of the summer plus a gorgeous white embroidered beach cover up for £19.99 that was much nicer than one I saw in River Island for £60. I love the fact when you wear their clothes, you're not likely to bump into anyone else wearing the same..unlike places like Next.

Also love the handbags and gym wear.

DunkandEggAgain · 21/09/2018 22:02

I hope I can make it in on a good day as I don't get out much.

I really want a nice throw for my sofa. I've looked on ebay but I'm after a chunky knit type throw, made with a pattern or something. I don't want a block single colour or fleece. Didn't have much joy. I was actually thinking of asking on here.
Maybe I'll find one there.

Matalan Ans Primark have lovely throws like you have described

PinkGinFreak · 21/09/2018 22:07

I love tk maxx! You never know what you'll find. Where else could you get a suit of armour, a cabbage leaf vase or a giant skull? They have some gorgeous armchairs in and we just bought some beautiful occasional tables. It changes all the time problem is if you don't grab em when you see them that's it, where I live it's different stuff all the time, furniture wise anyway. I always get handbags from there and love mooching around the food they get in at christmas, we always buy panettone there in December, it's our Christmas thing 😁

DunkandEggAgain · 21/09/2018 22:10

hendricksy oh really. Well thank you for telling me that as I'll check to see what's on their website.

PinkGinFreak LOL I know. Eclectic or what.

I expected the crab bell to be either (1) a bell made out of a crab shell with a crab claw as the ‘clapper’ or (2) a miniature bell for a crab to ring with its little claws. Perhaps to entertain the other crabs in its rock pool, or to warn them against enemies.

The reality is a bit disappointing, frankly.

The marked down (red price label) toiletries in TK Maxx are always exciting.

jenthehen · 21/09/2018 22:16

Get a trolley the minute you enter the shop. Put in anythingvthat takes your fancy to try on (you can always put stuff back later).

EssentialHummus · 21/09/2018 23:04

Lidl? Grin

DunkandEggAgain · 21/09/2018 23:22

jenthehen good tip. I didn't consider tx Maxx have trolleys but yes, why wouldn't they..?

Lidl! 😁 that's too true!

Candles. I may have spent £60 on True Grace and This Works candles the other day.

mysteryfairy · 21/09/2018 23:49

I always check for falke and Wolford tights

They’ve had a lot of le creuset pottery of late - oven dishes, utensils jars, jugs etc which I keep being tempted by. It’s also good for picking up other kitchen brands like Joseph Joseph and Oxy good grips.

Scandi kids wear occasionally

HairyButtMonkey · 21/09/2018 23:53

Go online. There's a much bigger range, you can pick out what you like and then collect (and return) in store when you go

YouBetterWORK · 22/09/2018 00:55

My local ones clothes section always looks like cluttered chaos I can't be arsed to rifle through. Saying that, they have a huuuuuuge bag section and my latest handbag is from there.

Ollivander84 · 22/09/2018 00:59

Hit and miss but I've had
Merrell wool coat that fits perfectly for £30
Anne Klein dress £15 that honestly could have been made for me (see attached pic!)
Down to earth ballet shoes that are mega comfy
Skechers ballet shoes

I mostly rummage in the bath/body. If you see any by nature New Zealand stuff it's really nice - the lemongrass and ginger hand wash particularly

I'm going to TX Maxx on Monday.
OlennasWimple · 22/09/2018 01:06

I love a good TK Maxx visit!

Key strategies:

  • pick something up even if you vaguely like it. If you put it back on the rack, someone else will come along and pick it up and there won't be another in your size
  • ignore sizing labels. Most things are in there for a reason, and one common one IME is that the sizing is inaccurate. You might be a large for that dress but a small for those trousers. It makes no sense, but you're getting a bargain
  • look over every thing very carefully, especially the red label reduced items. Usually they are good quality, but I have come home to find a small hole in a garment, or a broken popper.
  • on the other hand, think creatively about the garment - would it be better without those hideous buttons which you can switch out for less that a fiver?
  • it's not a bargain if you won't ever wear it...

Enjoy!

Autumnwindy · 22/09/2018 08:06

It's not cluttered chaos, it's actually very logical and orderly.

Want a top.. Look at that one section!!
Want coat same...

Autumnwindy · 22/09/2018 08:07

Homesense had wondeful throws, sometimes tk max has same stock
