I'm in love with my dishwasher (reluctantly purchased) what other gadgets can I get that will be similarly amazing??

I have recently purchased a (second hand) dishwasher. I've resisted getting one for years. I was adamant that I didn't need one, there were only four of us, I'd rather have a cupboard etc etc. A few years down the line from the breakup of my marriage I am now living with dp (and my two DD's). I noticed old (to me) annoyances beginning to crop up around housework so I figured let's see-not really thinking it would help.
I love the bloody thing. It's saves time, the kitchen looks better, the dishes look beautiful and sparkly (it also turns out I've been living like a grimmer for years with unclean pots that I've hand washed to nowhere near the standard of the dishwasher). There have been fewer squabbles re whose washing up etc.
I also secretly quite like the gentle wooshing noise it makes when it's on (perhaps its primeval and reminds me of being in the womb Grin)
What other things can I get that will have a similar effect? Are tumble dryers worth the dollars? Will a Roomba similarly improve my relationship?

That s a great idea to programme the Alexa to nag the kid into getting up! I'm going to do it!
(And I may have just bought a spray mop off amazon Grin)

The trick with the robot hoover is to put in on as you go out. You come home to a lovely cleaned house and an obedient little hoover docked and charging for next time.

That way no noise.

I've got the roomba and have heard other models aren't as good, both from people I know and from reviews.

The cheapest I've seen is around £230 delivered. The more expensive models are around £750. Ive has a basic model that was £199 in 2012 and it's still working - worth every penny.

I used to thicken the slow cooker sauce by taking the lid off and letting it bubble away.

Slurpy · 21/09/2018 22:31

Robot hoover is my best purchase ever. I adore him - he plays a chirpy little tune when he starts up (I ask Alexa to tell him to clean), zooms around the place doing a pretty thorough job, takes himself back to charge and sends me a little map of where he's done. He's a Neato.

Honorable mention goes to the Instant Pot.

FaithInfinity · 21/09/2018 22:45

Oh you asked about teasmaid. We had two, one was okay (Swan) and one rubbish one (Breville - tea tasted awful!). The novelty wore off quite quickly. We had the milk in a little jug by the teasmaid.

MadamePeony · 21/09/2018 22:53

I have a cordless dyson and a cord one for the really deep pile carpets. I love just whipping out the cordless one for kitchen crumbs or running it up the stairs.

I also love my tumble drier- fluffy towels all year round.

My dishwasher 😍😍

My vax steam mop. I have the nozzle too which I use to steam clean my shower fixtures and grout. If I add a little orange blossom essence to the water the house smells divine.

buckeejit · 21/09/2018 23:08

@legocardsagain my top tip is Alexa dot too. We have 3 & a good Bluetooth speaker hooked up to the one in the kitchen. Also have it linked to lamps in rooms & even after 18 months I still feel like I'm living in the future when I say 'lamp on' & there's light! Really love it.

Roomba gone to charity shop with steam mop (not hot enough) -roomba can't hack the small children & cat hair mess I'm this split level house.

I cba with dishwasher until family rules are set, (currently dh switches it on & doesn't empty it. I'd want it opened & pulled lit as soon as finished otherwise things don't dry nice).

Babyliss big hair is great. I want an instapot & am halogen oven curious

Rechargeable tealights are nice in winter

Braava jet - mopping robot, but with washable pads instead of expensive disposable pads. Roomba Hoover. We have seven robot floor cleaners in all, due to a herd of three dogs and twenty cats. I thought I'd been robbed when I got the jet, it seemed tiny and pathetic but grew on me and I wouldn't be without it now. I couldn't manage without the roombas either. They're troopers and just go on and on and parts are cheap and easy to come by.

Tumble dryer, again would be lost without it.

Upsy1981 · 22/09/2018 08:03

Yes to drier in garage as a) no room in house and b) I'm not tempted to use it all the time.

trinitybleu · 22/09/2018 08:24

Namechange000001 I need to know more about your team of robots.... Do you have them hoover first and then the moping one goes to work??

Hideandgo · 22/09/2018 08:31

Ok, this one is revolutionary.

I got an Apple slicer for 99p on amazon. Most of my kids like apples but always want it ‘cutted up’ and even peeled. They’ve stopped asking for it peeled thankfully and now I just take out my cutter and boom! It’s a perfectly cut apple within 2 seconds. I whack an elastic band on the whole thing and it goes into the lunchbox. No more half eaten cores!

Instapot · 22/09/2018 09:24

putthehamsterbackinitscage Haha! How do you accidentally buy a pressure cooker!

Instapot · 22/09/2018 09:25

Hideandgo can you post a link. For 99p you can't go wrong!

beanaseireann · 22/09/2018 09:32

I hate my Karcher window cleaning thingy.
I must be doing something wrong.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 22/09/2018 09:38

Going right back to basics I love my Laundry Maid (ceiling clothes airer).

It keeps everything out of the way, frees up space in the utility room and things dry so quickly.

ArtemisWeatherwax · 22/09/2018 09:57

Rotary cheese grater. Three quid from Ikea. No more scraped knuckles and makes pasta and pizza so much easier to do.

sashh · 22/09/2018 10:05

I have a washer dryer, no room for separates and I have arthritis so can't lift a full load of wet washing.

Put things in dirty and they come out clean and dry.

Also my rice cooker, I only got it because Argos were doing 3 for 2 and I was buying 2 other items. I thought I don't make rice often enough but you can cook other things and rice with coconut milk and a piece of salmon is brilliant.

I've used a slow cooker for decades, I now have 2 of different sizes.

legocardsagain · 22/09/2018 10:23

Yes Tefal do this toaster with a pod to cook an egg in and also beans! Literally life changing. I'm disabled and have it in my bedroom, along with the hot water dispenser mentioned previously. And a small fridge for milk and marg but not wine, oh no nothing like that!

I'm in love with my dishwasher (reluctantly purchased) what other gadgets can I get that will be similarly amazing??
Fluffycloudland77 · 22/09/2018 10:34

I've got a halogen oven, egg boiler, I had a vileda robo hoover but his battery died so amazon had him back. Miss him.

I have a spin dryer which is amazeballs.

sashh · 22/09/2018 10:49

Legocards

I've just been to the argos site to look at your toaster and it has popped up with, "20 sold in the last 48 hours" and "19 other people are looking at this"

I bet they are all on MN.

MakeYourOwnFuckingTea · 22/09/2018 10:50

Dh has promised me one of these double washing machines when we get the kitchen done. There's only 5 of us plus kitten. However two of my lot wet the bed and my machine does at least 2 loads a day. The bottom of that machine is big enough for a duvet.

FireCrotch · 22/09/2018 11:00

My best gadget is my dishwasher. The lower basket raises up to the same height as the top one. Plus the top one can be adjusted so you can lower it to put tall glasses in (all the machines I've had before could never fit wine glasses at the top so you'd have to risk putting them on the bottom and they become cloudy over time). You can also programme it to just wash the top half. I adore it. Ooh also I put a squeegee in the shower and got everyone in the habit of running it over the the tiles and screen before getting out. Never have to give more than a quick wipe over when cleaning since getting them into the habit.

RockinHippy · 22/09/2018 12:54

Totally agree with the dishwasher😍, don't know how I ever managed without in the past.

Tumble dryer 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 saves a lot of ironing for us even if we air dry, we stick most stuff in there for a few minutes to deal with creases

I add, Nutribullet, 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼it's a godsend & not just for the healthy stuff it's meant for, great for seriously unhealthy treats like home made shakeaway drinks too & I love it for making fresh sauces batters & more. Much faster & more thorough than my blender.

Apple corer 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Sandwich toaster bags 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 that just go in the toaster or griddle, much less faff than the breville gadget

Wire cheese slice 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Dyson hand held cordless hoover 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 id be lost without this as I can't manage a heavier hover due to my dodgy back

Steam mop👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 again I agree it's a must with hard floors

MakeYourOwnFuckingTea · 22/09/2018 13:24

Sandwich toaster bags are fab. My brother keeps some in his work van and puts shop bought sandwiches in them. I told my work friend and now her husband does it too.
