I'm in love with my dishwasher (reluctantly purchased) what other gadgets can I get that will be similarly amazing??

I have recently purchased a (second hand) dishwasher. I've resisted getting one for years. I was adamant that I didn't need one, there were only four of us, I'd rather have a cupboard etc etc. A few years down the line from the breakup of my marriage I am now living with dp (and my two DD's). I noticed old (to me) annoyances beginning to crop up around housework so I figured let's see-not really thinking it would help.
I love the bloody thing. It's saves time, the kitchen looks better, the dishes look beautiful and sparkly (it also turns out I've been living like a grimmer for years with unclean pots that I've hand washed to nowhere near the standard of the dishwasher). There have been fewer squabbles re whose washing up etc.
I also secretly quite like the gentle wooshing noise it makes when it's on (perhaps its primeval and reminds me of being in the womb Grin)
What other things can I get that will have a similar effect? Are tumble dryers worth the dollars? Will a Roomba similarly improve my relationship?

Another vote for a cordless Dyson.

It is amazing, I only have a tiny cottage, so I can vacuum the whole house in one charge. We bought it the same time we got our puppy (both bought with our wedding present gift money). I'd say it is an essential purchase alongside a puppy and should be part of any dog purchasing budget alongside lead, collar, water bowl, and dog bed!

Dehumidifier - goes in the spare room with a hanging rail thing to finish off any clothes that can't go in the dryer. Clothes dry by morning, no damp smell :-) works better than heated airer (No idea where that even is now!)

ScrambledSmegs · 21/09/2018 17:41

Bit weirdly, I recently bought a collapsible washing-up bowl. Best. Thing. Ever.

It looks like those expensive Joseph Joseph ones, folds flat, has a plug at the bottom so you don't have to tip it over to empty and cost me the princely sum of £9.

I also have a dishwasher, which I admit is brilliant. But the washing up bowl is better!

@IJustLostTheGame what is your veg chopper thing?

I love my new cordless Dyson.

To all those with slow cookers - what do you cook in it? I'm in need of some inspiration to get back to using mine.

CutesyUserName · 21/09/2018 17:56

Thickening slow cooker meals - as others have said, cornflour works perfectly. You can also add a potato or two or, if you like it, gravy granules.

TheLastNigel · 21/09/2018 18:14

Elbbob-I do curries, various stews and casseroles, bolognese/chilli, beef brisket, slow cooked pork (which then becomes pulled pork) and pasta sauce.Pretty much all our week day meals particularly in the colder months....
I'm up early and ready so whilst the DD's are faffing with their hair and what not before we leave for work and school, I just chuck everything in, pop on low heat, come back 8 hours later and it's done ✅

That's funny OP, I've just moved to a house with a decent dishwasher and it is life changing! Even OH who's been resistant for years is impressed. Every house/ office I've been in before that's had one has done such a terrible job at actually cleaning dishes I just thought that's what all dishwashers were like.

venetian25 · 21/09/2018 18:21

I've just bought a cheap spray mop from B&M, I absolutely love it and have cleaned my kitchen floor about 10 times in the last two days. Previously had a steam mop but this is so much better!

ATurnipOfMyOwn · 21/09/2018 18:38

This..... no need to thank me.

I have the Karcher mop too! It not only mops the floor and leaves it amazingly clean but it bloody hoovers up at the same time too! Not anything heavy duty, but general bits and bobs, so no more hoovering before mopping. Best thing ever.

ATurnipOfMyOwn · 21/09/2018 18:56

And if we're sharing the Karcher love, their window vacuum is amazing.

delphguelph · 21/09/2018 18:58

Dyson cordless
Tumble dryer

Loads more that I can't think of

Love modernity, me

anothermansmother · 21/09/2018 19:00

I love my dishwasher I tell her daily! Also gave in and bought a cordless dyson...it too gets praised daily ( and the children fight over who gets to use him)
Tumble dryer is my third favourite. It gives us fluffy towels and toasty warm pjs I'm thinking of upgrading mine to a heat pump one.
I'm all for labour saving appliances.

ScrambledSmegs · 21/09/2018 19:01

I have the Karcher window cleaner thing. It's fab. Googling the mop now...

QuestionableMouse · 21/09/2018 19:04

I bought a rechargeable cordless hand vac and bloody love it. No more fighting with the bloody huge Dyson thing.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 21/09/2018 19:22

3 tier heated clothes airer from Lakeland. Best product ever.

Nacreous · 21/09/2018 20:27

Bobbybobbins

Mine lives in the shed. Has been there for 2 years so far, seems okay. I got a massive drill attachment to make a hole in the shed wall and then put one of those plastic flap covers over it. When I want to use it I just run the big outdoor extension lead to it through the kitchen window. I keep meaning to put a spur in but frankly it’s gonna be a pain in the arse so I keep putting it off.

I got my shed specially made so the drier wouldn’t get dirty though, because mountain bikes, garden fork etc mean that otherwise I think it would be grim. I have the shed partitioned so there’s a 4ft by 6ft “clean” side with a door, and then the other side has a door too. I think it would be fine without this if you were tidier than I am though!!

MewithaC · 21/09/2018 20:50

I hated having a dishwasher and was delighted when i no longer had one.
However, you will prise my cordless Dyson and my tumble dryer from my cold, dead hands.

OlennasWimple · 21/09/2018 20:54

A stick blender. Seriously. We've eaten more soup and hummus and cakes in the last two weeks since I got it than the previous two years Grin

TheLastNigel This... www.morphyrichards.co.uk/products/coffee-makers/milk-frothers/210002-Black-Accents-Hot-and-Cold-Milk-Frother.html

Turns a nespresso pod into a latte in under 2 minutes plus makes excellent hot choc

delphguelph · 21/09/2018 21:10

Ooh ya stick blender

Home made soup a go go

Waddsup12 · 21/09/2018 21:16

Instant Pot & halogen oven, 2 things which have practically made my oven redundant. IP is Canadian. :-)

FaithInfinity · 21/09/2018 21:24

I love my dishwasher (DH’s friends clubbed together to get us a table top one when we got married. We’ve had one ever since and it saves a lot of rows.) Soup Maker I’ve had about a year and it’s awesome. I like the cordless Dyson but it clogs easily which is irritating. We’ve used the Amazon Alexa a lot more than I imagined we would.

Things that were overrated include a steam mop, water dispenser on fridge (started leaking within weeks of getting the fridge), condenser dryer.

Things I want: hot water tap, water filter tap (bring on the new kitchen!).

dinosaurkisses · 21/09/2018 21:36

Spray mop- no fannying about with a bucket and squeezing the water out. Really easy to use and I have the it constantly filled with some multi purpose cleaner so it’s always ready to go.

The dishwasher can’t be beaten for saving time though.

legocardsagain · 21/09/2018 21:50

Wow. So many things mentioned that I own, and totally take for granted.

Dishwasher
Washer/dryer AND separate dryer
Electric can opener
Slow cooker
Hot water dispenser
Handheld Dyson
Pet hair Dyson
Sky Q
Alexa x3
American style fridge freezer with ice and water
Toaster that boils eggs as well

My biggest one not mentioned so far is my Hive thermostat and lightbulbs. Being able to lay in bed and turn the light off....and then turn the heating on from anywhere when it feels a bit chilly.

Alexa deserves a special mention. I have her scheduled to tell DS when to get dressed in the morning. To bollock him for still not being dressed yet and to run though his spellings with him. I'm not lazy. Honest.
