I'm in love with my dishwasher (reluctantly purchased) what other gadgets can I get that will be similarly amazing??

I have recently purchased a (second hand) dishwasher. I've resisted getting one for years. I was adamant that I didn't need one, there were only four of us, I'd rather have a cupboard etc etc. A few years down the line from the breakup of my marriage I am now living with dp (and my two DD's). I noticed old (to me) annoyances beginning to crop up around housework so I figured let's see-not really thinking it would help.
I love the bloody thing. It's saves time, the kitchen looks better, the dishes look beautiful and sparkly (it also turns out I've been living like a grimmer for years with unclean pots that I've hand washed to nowhere near the standard of the dishwasher). There have been fewer squabbles re whose washing up etc.
I also secretly quite like the gentle wooshing noise it makes when it's on (perhaps its primeval and reminds me of being in the womb Grin)
What other things can I get that will have a similar effect? Are tumble dryers worth the dollars? Will a Roomba similarly improve my relationship?

I wrote a facebook valentines post to my dishwasher a few years ago "I dont know what I did before you were in my life, you make each day better..." Grin

TheLastNigel · 21/09/2018 13:34

It really does though!

Yes tumble driers are amazing and majorly cut down on ironing.

Upsy1981 · 21/09/2018 13:42

I have very recently done similar with a second hand tumble drier. Absolutely love it! Hideous day here and yet I have a load of clean fluffy towels already! Am determined not to use it to excess but it is definitely handy and will prove very handy over winter.

Nacreous · 21/09/2018 13:44

I

SLoisachtal · 21/09/2018 13:45

If you have dogs/cats, get a 'dog & cat hair' vacuum cleaner (unfortunately the good ones are a tad pricey). But, by God, the difference Shock Grin

And a steam cleaner for hard floors!

SleightOfMind · 21/09/2018 13:47

I’ve got a robot hoover.
She’s called Dirty Harriet and everyone loves her apart from Sleighthound2, who is scared.

IJustLostTheGame · 21/09/2018 13:48

I have a robot Hoover. It's rubbish. It thinks all the black lines on the rugs are the edges of cliffs and refuses to go near them.
Then it gets stuck under the sofa.

Now I've sorted how to thicken sauces in the slow cooker I would never be without it.
I've also got a vegetable chopper thing. It's brilliant.
That and the teasmade.... best invention ever.

Synecdoche · 21/09/2018 13:48

I'm a recent convert to the dishwasher! Parents never had one, I had never had one, saw it as a bit of an unnecessary luxury tbh. Now I would not be without one!

I love my new long handled dustpan and brush 😍

SheRaTheAllPowerful · 21/09/2018 13:49

Slow cooker - love
Air fryer - healthy chips what’s not to love
Vacuum - Miele Cat & Dog (I have no pets but it is amazing!
Dishwasher definitely
I have a washer dryer that is fab but I only use the drier for bedding & towels.

My next boring but totally exciting purchase is going to be a heated dryer from Lakeland :)

SheRaTheAllPowerful · 21/09/2018 13:50

Oh yes Apple corer, everyone with children you need to buy one!!!

MissisBoote · 21/09/2018 13:50

I bloody love my robot vacuum cleaner. I have a chronic illness and can't vacuum and think they should be prescribed on the NHS.

TheLastNigel · 21/09/2018 13:52

Now I've ALWAYS wanted a Teasmajd. What do you do about the milk?
And I'm quite interested in the steam cleaner...
I have a dog and cat vacuum. So far it has proved no match for the white and seemingly unhooverable hair deposited by our two Jack Russells but it is very good for the cat (and for dp after he's trimmed his beard-he sheds more than the other three combined!)

Game how do you thicken the sauce in a slow cooker ?

CaptSkippy · 21/09/2018 13:54

I love my dishwasher too.

Don't like my robot vacuum, because it sucks. It turned out to be a waste of money, but dishwasher? Hell to the yes!

TheLastNigel · 21/09/2018 13:55

I also love my slow cooker. I think at least 50 per cent of all our meals are made in it. It's aces coming back from work to find dinner done.
If I got a dryer it would have to go in the garage which is up the yard. I wonder if a heated airer would be better 🤔 (just because I am lazy and will not want to walk up the yard)

I love my hand held Vac. It was quite cheap on a Mumsnet offer a few years ago and while it’s no dyson, it is fab for hoovering crumbs and dust bunnies. Makes such a difference in seconds.

I also want to know how to thicken sauce in the slow cooker!!

TheLastNigel · 21/09/2018 13:56

I put less liquid in the slow cooker than th recipe demands in the first place (to pp who asked)

Boiling water tap. AMAZING

Tinty · 21/09/2018 13:58

Tumble drier, I dry all pants and socks in it, so I only have to dry large items on the washing line and don't spend hours pegging out hundreds of separate socks and pants. love My dishwasher, I will never not have one after moving to a house 18 years ago where the previous owners left a dishwasher.

Dontfartbackinanger · 21/09/2018 13:59

I love my dyson cordless vacuum. 😍

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 21/09/2018 14:13

I adore my tumble drier. I got it when I was 38 and it was life-changing. I haven't been without a dishwasher since I was a kid and I never will.

The smallest amazing gadget we have is a wooden tongs for getting stuck stuff out of the toaster. It has made a big difference to breakfast times here, because my kids prefer ever more unlikely shapes of toasted item - no nice straightforward sliced pan in this house!

kaytee87 · 21/09/2018 14:29

Those with robot hoovers, can you make any suggestions on brands?

Nacreous · 21/09/2018 14:57

I also pop a few cubes of frozen butternut squash or sweet potato into pasta sauces that I do in the slow cooker - they cook down to nothing and thicken the rest of the sauce. (But I also don’t actually have recipes with liquid measurements [that I use...] for any savoury dish so I am probably cutting down liquids too just without noticing.)
