Light-hearted: Don't you just LOVE some names?

Taking a break from work...how cool is 'Kashuo Ishiguro' especially with 'Sir' Prefix Grin

Always thought 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel' was quite something. Almost as if there will be no room big enough to fit his entire persona. Why hasn't this name ever appeared in the baby names section, they're always looking for something unique Wink

What other names do you know that just make you sit back and think WOW! (in a good way not in a 'Chardonaye' kind of way ifyswim).

I’ve always loved Mark Lamarr’s name - even though it’s a simple name it just flows off of the tongue.

Also another newsreader, Riz Lateef.

My favourites have to be some of the Marvel character names though. Stan Lee does have a thing about alliteration, doesn’t he!

Bruce Banner
Peter Parker
Sue Storm
Reed Richards
John Jonah Jameson Jr.

MarxandMarzipan · 20/09/2018 11:58

Jonnie Peacock the sprinter.

SweatyFretty · 20/09/2018 12:02

Has anyone mentioned Tokyo Sexwhale?

Yaya Toure, (footballer) just rolls off the tongue.

His siblings are called Kolo, Ibrahim and Aicha, I like his parents style.

BasiliskStare · 20/09/2018 12:16

My father ( many years ago ) met a chap at the golf club at the time who was called Friday Godknows - just fabulous.

DoYouLikeBasghetti · 20/09/2018 12:18

Rasmus Quist - Danish rower but sounds like a wizard Smile

DemocracyDiesInDarkness · 20/09/2018 12:21

@notpennysboat I quite often get that 'Barack Obama' song stuck in my head, and go around singing it for days!

HepzibahHumbug · 20/09/2018 12:24

My DM has a friend called Beena Loch.

spiderlight · 20/09/2018 12:25

Many years ago, I taught a fabulous mature student in her 80s, who was called Gertrude Fear. She was quite a formidable character on the surface but absolutely lovely underneath and her name has always stuck with me.

Cocolepew · 20/09/2018 12:35

Brian Hanrahan, just rolls of the tongue.
Swoosie Kurtz is fabulous and her real name.

saganorenscarandcoat · 20/09/2018 12:37

Billie Holiday

While working at a school I met a girl called Willow Digweed and a boy named Hugo Smellie - I just love these names!

RonniePickering · 20/09/2018 12:47

Stirling Moss

Oscar De La Hoya

spiderlight · 20/09/2018 12:47

Oh, poor Hugo Smellie! Can you imagine having to go through life with a surname like that?

soupforbrains · 20/09/2018 13:09

I love this thread and many many of the names on it but I'm a little surprised amid the BBC flurry of names that Petroc Trelawny hasn't made an appearance.

I've always adored rolling that name around my mouth when I say it and it's certainly memorable.

beanaseireann · 20/09/2018 13:11

BelMcEnd Emerald Fennell's father is a jeweller I think.

delphguelph · 20/09/2018 13:18

As if anyone on here could handle a name like Zsa Zsa gabor!

Be lucky to manage Mrs. Rabbit

delphguelph · 20/09/2018 13:19

Magnus Magnusson

TinselAngel · 20/09/2018 13:24

My Dad volunteered at a local museum and their vintage fashion consultant was a lady called Notty Hornblower.

AlexaAmbidextra · 20/09/2018 13:28

I once worked with a Miss Vane-Tempest.

DarlingNikita · 20/09/2018 13:40

I read an interview with Idris Elba where he said his real name is Idrissa, but at his school in London 'that just was not going to happen' Grin

I'm so happy to hear there's at least one toddler Isambard out there! It's a wonderful name and I thought it was lost.

The name Keir is hot as fuck. I've a small crush on Keir Starmer and suspect that it's 99% due to his name.

I think Madison Keys (tennis player) is lovely. I like the rhythm.

Also Lucy Lawless. I'm so envious that Lawless isn't my surname. I'd be about four hundred times cooler and more fearsome.

SLoisachtal · 20/09/2018 13:40

Skylucy, you mentioned someone called Montserrat, which has reminded me of Montserrat Caballe - lovely name and a magnificent singer.

LordBuckley · 20/09/2018 13:41

John Batman (founder of Melbourne, Australia, which he originally called "Batmania").

NaToth · 20/09/2018 13:41

Another vote for Parthenope Nightingale. What a fabulous name!

SLoisachtal · 20/09/2018 13:43

Sorry, with correct spelling and relevant accents Montserrat Caballé
