Taking a break from work...how cool is 'Kashuo Ishiguro' especially with 'Sir' Prefix Grin

Always thought 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel' was quite something. Almost as if there will be no room big enough to fit his entire persona. Why hasn't this name ever appeared in the baby names section, they're always looking for something unique Wink

What other names do you know that just make you sit back and think WOW! (in a good way not in a 'Chardonaye' kind of way ifyswim).

I once met someone called Gay Orchard.

Her married surname Grin

BearSoFair · 20/09/2018 09:37

I can't remember her first name but at the 2012 Olympics there was a hurdler called Stumbolova...who unfortunately did stumble over and fall during her race!

GrumpyOlderBloke · 20/09/2018 09:44

I K Brunel, B B Stoney, add Joseph Bazalgette to the list of engineers.

Sir Cloudesley Shovell for the Royal Navy.

I used to 'collect' the more outré names listed in the credits of American programmes.

My favourite was Pembroke J Herring. Apparently the J is for Jared.

I wanted to use Belisarius as one of our boys' names but was overruled by the Ultimate Authority.

One of the police TV programmes - might be Police Interceptors - features Gary Panther. I just love the juxtaposition of those names!

SLoisachtal · 20/09/2018 09:47

And who can forget Bradley Walsh's reaction to, the rather unfortunately named to British ears, Fanny Chmelar ? Grin

DuggeesWoggle · 20/09/2018 09:51

I came across the name Edryd Goodspeed a few years ago. Only a teenager but what a name! I hope he goes on to great things.

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 20/09/2018 10:00

Are you sure it wasn’t Marina Stepanova Bear? She’s a Russian hurdler (and one of the names used in the Question of Sport name round last week)

Peachbubble · 20/09/2018 10:05

Sean Bean

JoeElliotsMullet · 20/09/2018 10:05

DH and I went to the cinema once and it was so busy that at the end of the film we just decided to stay in our seats until the auditorium was empty, so we ended up staring at the credits and this gem popped up:

Joe Pancake

Isn't that awesome?

We also used to make the siren noise whenever Nina Nannar was on too!
Sorry Nina, if you're reading.
Also Brian Hanrahan, because someone on telly extended it to Hanrahahanrahahanrahan and I can never not do that now.

GrimSqueaker · 20/09/2018 10:06

Condoleeza Rice.

You can just imagine the thread on MN - Shock you can't call her that, she'll never be a barrister / Prime Minister / Secretary of State.

TheDowagerCuntess · 20/09/2018 10:24

Also Zinzan (Valentine) Brooke - former All black.

prettyblue · 20/09/2018 10:57

That's awesome @BearSoFair - it was Vania Stambolova!

Reminds me too of an ice skater called Irina Slutskaya Grin

Velvetbee · 20/09/2018 11:08

Tilusha Galani - another great BBC name.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 20/09/2018 11:13

Always loved Constantine Louloudis (GB rower)

Somewhat disappointingly goes by Stan Grin

margaritasbythesea · 20/09/2018 11:17

I always like Grace Hightower (she´s married to Robert DeNiro). Sounds majestic.

AngeloMysterioso · 20/09/2018 11:25

I find the name Ali McAnally very satisfying to say. I also find it quite funny that his name would be very different without the "Mc"!!

derxa · 20/09/2018 11:31

Sir Jock Stirrup who used to be head of the armed services I think.

bizzers · 20/09/2018 11:31

Brandon Flowers of The Killers! What a great name.

FuzzBallMushroomP · 20/09/2018 11:39

At my brother's graduation ceremony around 15 years ago they called out the name Lorcan Moriarty. Amazing name.

blancheduboiss · 20/09/2018 11:39

My two favourites are most definitely:
Sigourney Weaver and Winona Ryder. Just fabulous.

PookyHook · 20/09/2018 11:46

I giggle when I hear the reporter Candida Beveridge's name mentioned on the radio.

BellMcEnd · 20/09/2018 11:46

Also love Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Imagine that on the school register now.

Emerald Fennell who played Patsy in Call the Midwife has a fab name.

Other names that I love are:-

Sir Curtly Ambrose - a West Indian Cricketer.

Actress Cush Jumbo

Morse composer Barrington Phelong

Great thread!

Skylucy · 20/09/2018 11:54
