Light-hearted: Don't you just LOVE some names?

Taking a break from work...how cool is 'Kashuo Ishiguro' especially with 'Sir' Prefix Grin

Always thought 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel' was quite something. Almost as if there will be no room big enough to fit his entire persona. Why hasn't this name ever appeared in the baby names section, they're always looking for something unique Wink

What other names do you know that just make you sit back and think WOW! (in a good way not in a 'Chardonaye' kind of way ifyswim).

Uther Pendragon. I like those Cornish 'Pen' names - Susan Penhaligon is great as well.

Simone Signoret.

Formula 1 has a disproportionate number of cool names. There's loads.

Jody Scheckter
Mario Andretti
Rubens Barrichello
Niki Lauda

Hilare Bellock

I went through a stage as a 10 year old poetry lover as describing funny things as Hilare-Bellock-Arious.

I was a weird kid.

SnipSnipMisterBurgess · 19/09/2018 23:41

Jessica Chastain, sounds so elegant, like cut glass.

KitchenDancefloor · 19/09/2018 23:46

Well my 10 year old inner weirdo couldn't spell. It's Hilaire Belloc (ta, Wikipedia).

It starts off as a floaty ethereal thing, then gathers weigh and plummets like a stone. Belloc. Belloc. I can't stop saying it now. Belloc.

What a fab thread, OP! Loving these names. One of our local BBC news reporters has a name I have always loved:

Kirk England. Just love it! Grin

Mekhi Phifer.
So good it featured in an Eminem rap.

I also think Marshall Mathers is cool too, in fairness.

PurpleAndTurquoise · 20/09/2018 01:24

You need to watch Horrible Histories for this one but the Victorian school teacher calls out the register of bizarre (but real) Victorian names.
I LOVE Minty Badger.

KnitFastDieWarm · 20/09/2018 02:05

My all-time favourite is the fabulously-named Sir Cloudesley Shovell, an English admiral in the 1700s who went down with his ship in the manner you would expect of a gentleman with a name like that Grin

In terms of sheer coolness, Siegfried Sassoon ain’t bad.

HalleLouja · 20/09/2018 02:15

Floella Benjamin is my contribution. She’s now a Baroness too.

mimibunz · 20/09/2018 02:27

I give you Lex Posthumous, a real person but sounds like a James Bond bad guy.

frogface69 · 20/09/2018 02:31

Geraldine McEwan.
I could swoon.

Bloodybridget · 20/09/2018 02:43

@beanaseireann I think Bindon Blood Stoney is my ancestor! Had not heard of him but the name Bindon Blood has come up in genealogical research.

Bloodybridget · 20/09/2018 02:54

A girl at my school in the 60s, Mystica Rudolph.

MrsDeanWinchester75 · 20/09/2018 03:06

My parents used to know a PC Dilys Puddiphat, I never met her but I imagine a kind faced buxom lady.

IsaidMrDarcynotArsey · 20/09/2018 03:11

@TheLittleMermaid I always thought Elon Musk sounded like one of those natural products you might spray to either attract or repel creatures as appropriate.

Five pages in and I don't really care but I just had to say to okeydokeygirl that the Edward Woodward joke is probably my favourite of all time, or at least equal to "what's brown and sticky".

flapjackfairy · 20/09/2018 05:10

Somebody please explain the Edward Woodward joke ? Only had 3 hrs sleep and seriously short of brain cells !

DisplayPurposesOnly · 20/09/2018 05:48

Eden Phillpots

He was author, born 1862 and died 1960, so would have seen some amazing changes.

If I ever change my name, that's what I'm going for.
