When I wanted to have children my ovaries went on total strike- I once went ten months without a period - and it took years to conceive. Annoyingly, post kids I developed a 28 day regular as clockwork cycle.

I'm mid forties now, have my family, DH had a vasectomy, all done. Suddenly my ovaries have gone into overdrive like it's my body's last shot at reproducing. I'm now on a 21 day cycle. And it sucks.
Do periods just get closer and closer till the eggs run out and then stop?
I'm so offended by my own reproductive system right now.

It’s fairly common for periods to go haywire. Also to get broody..not saying you are.

Peri sucks. There’s a good r3cent thread on it somewhere...

LooLaaToo · 18/09/2018 23:05

I am the same. Mine are now 20 days apart and last for a week, so that's less than 2 weeks a month with no period. Wtf.

Mine have generally got closer together (think 14-21 days) - but had a 75 day cycle earlier this year. I think the cycles initially get shorter, then longer, before finally stopping.

I'm due a smear test bit can't work out when to book it as my cycle is so bloody unpredictable!!!

travailtotravel · 18/09/2018 23:10

I'm at 3 weeks too. I'm at the point where I'd negotiate a truce with my system if it would stop it all together. Like 2 months of a continuous period then nothing ever ever again. I'd consider that. If I could trust the fucker.

LooLaaToo · 18/09/2018 23:15

As dumb as this will make me sound, I hadn't even considered the short cycle as my ovaries going into overdrive. Confused the last thing I want is a baby. Buggar off ovaries.

LooLaaToo · 18/09/2018 23:15

How long does this 3 week thing go on for? Do they get shorter still?

Fanjango · 18/09/2018 23:17

I went three weeks on one week off for a while. Now on month 5 of zero period. Comes and goes when it pleases. But at least they aren't as heavy as the three week ones were. Yuk.

MorningsEleven · 18/09/2018 23:18

@PeridotCricket thanks for the link. I am ridiculously broody. I've never been fussed about other people's babies but now I can't go past a pram without getting emotional.

@LooLaaToo It's so annoying "D"H said "Ah well, in a couple of years they'll stop altogether and you won't have to worry" so I said "And I'll dry up like Mother Shipton's Cave and you'll never have sex again, laughing boy"

Three weeks on? Shock

What am I moaning about.

LooLaaToo · 18/09/2018 23:20

Grin @MorningsEleven

MorningsEleven · 18/09/2018 23:23

Oh god, we're all doomed.

And I'm undecided about HRT. The pill gave me migraines and I get the migraine aura with PMT so I'm reluctant.

BlackeyedSusan · 19/09/2018 00:00

doomed.

least I will be warmer this winter. too fucking hot

KTyoupigeon · 19/09/2018 00:04

I have PCOS and have never had regular periods since the day I had my first period aged 16 UNTIL I hit peri about 4 years ago and like you they are bloody regular as clockwork and very 24 days!! I actually went 15 months without one before discovering I was pregnant - that was an interesting when the midwife ask when my last cycle was to date the pregnancy Grin

I want to go back to just having 3 a year or stop altogether! Don't even get me started on the hormonal migraine AngrySad

TheWholeHog · 19/09/2018 00:18

Oh! Broodiness has gone into overdrive recently. Am nearly 44. Ceci explique cela. Bother!

HPLikecraft · 19/09/2018 01:15

The peri fucking menopause, you say?
It's crap, isn't it? I'm having periods every 3 weeks that are like Niagara Falls. I mess my clothes and bed up without fail each time. I have period pain before, during and after a period. And the worst is the sore nipples. Or maybe the sudden death of my libido Sad

LooLaaToo · 19/09/2018 05:24

Anyone got dry feet? And dry hands? I suppose its better than a dry fanjo.

The80sweregreat · 19/09/2018 05:38

I'm post menopause ( just) : had a year of not having any periods at all and it's not as bad as the peri bit which dragged and made periods a total nightmare.
I can sympathise!
The thing I'm struggling with now is the random aches and pains the irritability and dry skin ( dry everything!)
Herbal tablets do help but my ability to just want to randomly hurt anyone who winds me up is increasing by the day. I'm better off alone some days!

Theg00dwife · 19/09/2018 06:01

Blimmin hate it...
Horrendous periods... luckilily every 24/5 days though
No memory
No libido
Waking at 4 or 5am every night
Anxious and upset

Starflower capsule and Floradix have helped a bit with moods but Floradix is expensive

Not sure if things are going to get better or worse?!

Dragonlight · 19/09/2018 06:11

I hear you. Is anyone else a migraine sufferer and find they are getting more severe and lasting longer? I used to get them once or twice a month but the last period I had they were every day. Plus a few days over ovulation. How come no one ever told me it would be like this?!

BadderWolf · 19/09/2018 07:10

Is anyone else a migraine sufferer and find they are getting more severe and lasting longer?

Mine became more frequent (for me) before really tailing off to near zero. For me it was about hormone swings rather than the absolute level. That said, my cycle is currently about a 1 day bleed every 2/3 months...no HRT but I do supplement with dong quai, red clover, wild yam and gingko for peri symptoms (plus solar multi, magnesium, D and C). I also run and that's helped bring my stress levels down which has probably helped.

Don't feel like my hormones are really low in spite of my lack of bleeding...I do still get flashy easily (but no drench sweats now) and increasing sex drive Shock

Redcherries · 19/09/2018 07:17

Mine started going the other way so every month was a pregnancy scare. Then they moved closer and closer together and lasted 14 days, I was on more than off. Currently they’ve settled down a lot, only last a week and fairly regular, the drenching night sweats started at the very beginning and continue still, plus a constant low mood. I’m under 40 and my hormone tests are negative for peri so no help, I’m on year 5 of this, had scans etc. Hoping the end is in sight soon and agree with pp, I would do a deal with my body to call it a day now!

fenneltea · 19/09/2018 07:26

I'm now post menopause after years of horrendous heavy blleeding on a near constant basis.

I ended up getting a fibroid removed, which made not much difference, using norethisterone, tranexamic acid and mefenamic acid. I didnt want mirena as ~i also suffered from migraines and asked for a hysterectomy.

i had the lot removed, including ovaries and I feel so much better a year down the line, I do still get hot flushes/sweats and the odd day of being tired and achey, but I feel more like me again. My migraines have stopped and being period free is wonderful. No hrt. I just wish I'd had the surgery sooner, I spent so many years miserable with it. peri is worse than the actual menopause in my experience.

Branleuse · 19/09/2018 07:31

Mine have gone irregular. Ive been tracking for last 2 or 3 years and they range from 17 days apart to occasionally 45. I also feeling awful a lot and bad pmt.
Ive asked the dr to trial low dose HRT to see if it helps.

PandaG · 19/09/2018 07:36

No hot flushes (yet), but periods all over the place, and sore boobs...oh the pain, comes on from nowhere...
