Anyone got anything to say about the peri fucking menopause? Way TMI.

When I wanted to have children my ovaries went on total strike- I once went ten months without a period - and it took years to conceive. Annoyingly, post kids I developed a 28 day regular as clockwork cycle.

I'm mid forties now, have my family, DH had a vasectomy, all done. Suddenly my ovaries have gone into overdrive like it's my body's last shot at reproducing. I'm now on a 21 day cycle. And it sucks.
Do periods just get closer and closer till the eggs run out and then stop?
I'm so offended by my own reproductive system right now.

I have the nocturnal weeing too but i am diabetic so it's not a new thing. Occasional night sweats and period sex would only be an option with a blood fetishist.

Pre-empt the hot flushes (they will come) and get yourself a handheld USB fan from Amazon.

You'll thank me later, its a lifesaver.

Catastic · 19/09/2018 11:21

I've started Googling and doing some additional research and have to say, this thread has been far more useful, practical and informative than any other site I have found so far.

Love the handheld fan idea!
Although, in about an hour or so, I'll probably hate it, such are my mood swings. Poor DH just sat next to me and started eating. We have been together for 25 years and it has never before bothered me, but today I wanted to dump the plate of food on his head. I'm really fun to live with Sad.

I went 6 monthly for three years but....................they were horrendous. Flooding everywhere, had to wear incontinence pants to work in addition to normal pads for very heavy flow. Just to get through the day with some degree of confidence.

I saw the doctor who offered hrt but said I had to got through it at some point (indicating that coming off hrt might be fun too) so I just persevered due to the fact it was just once every 6 months.

I am through it now and looking back now realise what a foggy head I had and allsorts. Horrible time.

Kezzie200 · 19/09/2018 11:24

Oh and a Mirena coil was offered too. I wimped out of that one.

MorningsEleven · 19/09/2018 11:33

Oh yes to the anger. I've had accupuncture to try and help cos I'm a ball of rage!

Threewheeler1 · 19/09/2018 11:39

Ooh yes, and the back to back bastards.
Can go on for 20 days. My cycle is random but always under 20 days now. It's fucking boring.
And God knows how I'll ever find a window of time to climb a rock face in white hot pants, or run along a beach in a lightweight, see through outfit if I'm packing the equivalent of a sanitary surf board in my pants.
Peri is grim. I'm sort of dried up but moist and melty all at the same time. I think I'm turning into a clammy boneless chicken in a Ken Dodd wig.
It's the amazing regularity of the 3.30am wake up I don't get. I don't even need to look at the clock now, I know it's stupid o'clock.

Catastic · 19/09/2018 11:46

Did the acupuncture help at all Mornings?

MorningsEleven · 19/09/2018 11:49

Dunno really, but it's an hour with no kids, no DH and someone who is nice to me!

Kezzie200 · 19/09/2018 11:53

Haha...that sums up the definition of the peri menopause

"The time when you think someone is being nice when they stick pins in you!"

TownHall · 19/09/2018 11:54

It’s comforting to read this thread and see everything I’m experiencing is totally normal.

It sucks!

myrtleWilson · 19/09/2018 12:58

Mornings if you were close and it wouldn't piss you off I would kiss you for starting this thread. Am feeling quite a lot better for reading this. Pucker up girl 😘

spiderlight · 19/09/2018 13:01

My periods became so hideous and my hormonal migraines so unbearable that my GP and neurologist persuaded me to go on the mini pill. I was really worried about it but it's been a godsend - haven't had a period since last October! Not sure how long I'm allowed to stay on it though - would take it until my dying day if I could!

CoperCabana · 19/09/2018 13:21

Yup, all sounding familiar. Seems like constant bleeding. Dreadful insomnia. Too moist but too dry all at the same time! Itching. Weight gain. White hair sprouting. Mad long eyebrows. THE RAGE!

I am a total catch!

Threewheeler1 · 19/09/2018 14:58

Me too CoperCobana
I'm positively irrefuckingsistable at the moment.
Like catnip to DH...Grin
My resting face says "do not come near me or ask me a question that I deem both uneccessary and stupid or one of us will definitely get hurt and it won't be me". It's a lot to convey in a single glance but I think I'm managing it...

HellonHeels · 19/09/2018 15:17

I've definitely got the fucking rage! And constantly overheated. I'm already on sertraline which makes me overheat and this is just making it even worse.

MorningsEleven · 19/09/2018 16:29

Mad long eyebrows

I could plait mine. That's another part of my body that's out of control.

I found a 3" long random white hair growing out my neck Shock

BobbinThreadbare123 · 19/09/2018 17:05

Can I ask if anyone in thread was well under 40 when this began? I am mid 30s and have quite a lot of these symptoms. They're not debilitating, but I'd like to know how long I can expect this kind of shit for, particularly since my mum and nan had their menopauses in their mid to late 50s.... Wondering if GP visit might be necessary, particularly with the crazy periods.

TokyoSushi · 19/09/2018 17:14

I'm 'only' 38 but something is definitely going on, my periods were perfect for the last 20 years or so, 28 day cycle, medium flow, no pain, conceived 2 DC no issues, hardly any pain, what a lucky girl I was!

But gosh am I paying for it now?! I'm lucky if I can get to 20 days, spotting even before that, absolute pouring blood, raging headaches, totally awful. Envy

aperolspritzplease · 19/09/2018 17:15

Mine are Getting longer but believe me that's not pleasant. I used to be a 3 day a month light period girl and now I'm a monster from hell for ten days of every sox weeks. Why don't people about this shit?!?

BobbinThreadbare123 · 19/09/2018 17:19

We just sort of accept it. It would take a lot for me to go to the doc and talk about it, unless I was in agony. I already feel like I take up enough NHS resources with my Crohn's.

poppym12 · 19/09/2018 17:30

Nodding in agreement. I'd been 8 months free of bleeding, flushes had calmed a lot and I was less irritable. Then a couple of weeks ago a period arrived out of the blue. Well pissed off I need to start counting again. Actually, I'm just pissed off and angry about everything again.

MorningsEleven · 19/09/2018 18:03

@myrtleWilson

Woyld love to but only after we watch a Melissa McCarthy film and eat every carb known to bloated womankind.

OP posts:
Catastic · 20/09/2018 00:00

Can I come to the Melissa McCarthy film? Don’t say no. I’ll probably cry.

Actually I just want to watch the scene in Bridesmaids where she steals the puppies. I wish someone would do that for me.

I read on another thread about people relating to Kathy Bates’ character in Fried Green Tomatoes ramming the rude people in the supermarket car park. That seems totally doable/rational to me. I’m also relating to Shirley MacLaine’s character in Steel Magnolias.
