Please tell me it's not just me! I'm off work at the mo and people seem to think my home is a free for all! My FIL calls round unannounced alot to moan about his health. I'm seriously thinking of closing the blinds and hoping the dog doesnt bark

No me too

Holidayshopping · 18/09/2018 15:02

I hate it too-I think it’s really rude!

MsForestier · 18/09/2018 15:02

I usually leave my hearing aids out at home and grunge around in leggings and no bra. The door bell ringing is a mini crisis.

Both our families live abroad so noone calls much unless invited. Have recently put a polite 'no cold callers' sign-on door. You are not alone!

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 18/09/2018 15:02

You need a sign:
Sorry not available, playing wii naked.

MsForestier · 18/09/2018 15:03

I do wear a top though Grin

MsForestier · 18/09/2018 15:04

In general not while playing wii

Itsacakebaby · 18/09/2018 15:04

Not keen but I'm a miserable bugger 😉. Only takes a quick text or call to see if it's convenient.

6demandingchildren · 18/09/2018 15:04

sometimes i love visitors but if i have housework or into a good thing on t.v the it can be a right pain in the arse.

Flowerfae · 18/09/2018 15:06

I hate it too... I wouldn't do it to anyone else either

TillyVonMilly · 18/09/2018 15:07

No op it’s nit just you, we’re antisocial buggers too Grin

LongSummerDays · 18/09/2018 15:08

I believe that visitors only call when you've decided that tomorrow will do for the vacuuming, you're not yet showered or dressed and last nights dinner plates are still unwashed.

When your house is spotless then visitors stay away.

shumway · 18/09/2018 15:08

I hate visitors - announced or unannounced.

GoodbyeSummer · 18/09/2018 15:14

I'm an unsociable bugger too but don't actually mind when people call over. We get very few guests though so I suppose if it was every day it would to my head in more.

CakeNinja · 18/09/2018 15:38

I like visitors!
I’m sociable and my house is never a shit tip so I’m never embarrassed about people seeing it.
If I’m home, anyone is welcome to knock on the door.
We used to have a door where people could let themselves in from the outside and no doorbell so people would frequently come in and shout hello.
I seem to be friends and family with people who happily welcome me and others in (although I rarely knock on others spontaneously as I see on here most people seem to hate their friends knocking on their door without 3 weeks notice Grin ).

Magicstar1 · 18/09/2018 15:41

Don't open the door....if I don't want visitors, I just ignore the doorbell.

Malibucyprus · 18/09/2018 15:55

I hate uninvited visitors that turn up at mealtimes! I look forward to sitting down in peace with my food, can’t stand eating with an audience.

My in laws have 2 visiting times, 5.30pm or 9.10pm. Both inconsiderate if you ask me....

Undies1990 · 18/09/2018 17:23

No, you're not the only one to feel like this! I'm exactly the same.

It always feels awkward if someone just pops by for no particular reason. I don't know why!

I've decided not to answer the door now, unless I'm expecting someone Grin

FlyteB · 19/09/2018 10:57

undies I'm doing the same.

I hate people "popping in" and the in laws are ardent popper inners Angry

MIL has driven round before, found us not in, then called to see where we are, and waited for us to get back. Why not just phone first rather than driving 10 minutes on the off chance we are in?

It's her control-freakery taking over. She then gets to be shocked that we have been out, demands to know where we have been. With a 7yr old with activities and all that shit, and a dog that needs walking, chances are we are not always in when she "pops" round.

It really winds me up.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 19/09/2018 12:30

I don't mind family and certain friends calling unannounced tbh as I just carry on doing what I was up to. But if they aren't good friends I'm always a bit put out they didn't ring beforehand. Not that it happens much.

AfterSchoolWorry · 19/09/2018 12:34

I hate it. My doorbell hasn't worked for years. I'm never fixing it. My porch is locked in the evenings.

If someone wants to come, they can ring.

pumpkinpie01 · 19/09/2018 12:50

My dad will drive 50 miles without checking if we are in first, Im sure he's just trying to avoid his crazy lazy wife.

MnerXX · 19/09/2018 13:01

50 miles is insane! I thought mine were bad and its only down the road.
