should we get a super king?

Currently have a double with decent mattress which is 3 yo but next year will be redoing our bedroom (moved house since getting the other bed) thinking about the new bed.

Bedroom is 5.2m x 4m, bed is on the long wall, superking frame is around 2m. We have 1 child and another on the way, DS likes an early morning snooze with us, currently very cramped!

Anyone bought a super king bed and regretted it?

Too big, it's a pain to change the bedding and getting a winter tog super king duvet into its cover is very hard work. I wish we'd stuck with a king.

Super King with 2 x single duvets is the way ahead (or separate rooms)Grin.

oneofthose · 17/09/2018 21:27

No one regrets a bigger bed, especially with children in them too

Super king and separate duvets.

Never looked back.

I don't know he's there (apart from the snoring)

Impatientwino · 17/09/2018 21:29

Absolutely love ours! Wouldn't go back to a smaller bed unless we had to! It's amazing and I wish I got to spend more time in it!

Agree with a PP is that it does sort of ruin when you stay in hotels and it's only a king or the horror! a double?! Grin We always end up being rather territorial about sides! he's always bloody on mine

PhannyMcNee · 17/09/2018 21:29

Love ours - like PP we got it to fit all 6 of us when the dc were little.

Duvet is a pita but I always change it on a night I know dh is in so that he does it helps Wink

PersonalClown · 17/09/2018 21:29

If I had the room and money to go any bigger, I would!

My Superking is big enough for me and DP to sleep miles apart with a large Doodle down at the bottom and a Staffy wedged in the middle.

Can even fit a 6ft 3 ASD teen when he feels like being sociable.

Missushb · 17/09/2018 21:30

For those with separate duvets, do you all use two singles? What about the flat sheet? Or do you go with no flat sheet?

redsummershoes · 17/09/2018 21:31

we have single duvets.
easier to change than doubles

Auntpetunia2015 · 17/09/2018 21:33

Love ours it’s big enough for me and oh to stretch out without hitting or kicking each other (he’s 6ft 4 and I’m 5ft 11).

redsummershoes · 17/09/2018 21:33

what is a flat sheet?

SupplychainNpton · 17/09/2018 21:35

I love ours.
Lots of snuggles happen in it. You don't have to sleep on the edge with 50 pillows in between!
We can get 3 cats cuddled up, along with our 3"2 smallest kids. It's great for lazy cartoon mornings!

dollydelightful · 17/09/2018 21:36

Love ours, but is a pain to change bedding alone....need a partner! I get what others are saying about being far apart ( but that's what I like about it)

QueenOfMyWorld · 17/09/2018 21:36

I used to have one and i loved it! My friend has got an emperor one, 7ft wide which is taking it one step too far

SupplychainNpton · 17/09/2018 21:37

The covers are usually equipped with loops that go through small holes in the corners of a good duvet too. Grin

yetanothernane · 17/09/2018 21:37

We have a king. If I'd had the money I would go super king. We currently have me, dp, ds, ds's teddy and a fucking toy car in the bed and loads of space. We have just got it and I love it. So much better than the double. I don't know how we survived with it!

If you can afford the super king and have space get it!

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 17/09/2018 21:38

The flat sheet is the one that covers the mattress.

I do love our bed, but all super king sized linens are a pain to launder. My washing machine has a small drum and can't cope with some duvet covers as they're so heavy when wet through.

robynadair · 17/09/2018 21:38

We live our super king bed. Have to confess we bought it so we could accommodate our two terriers!!

Bluntness100 · 17/09/2018 21:39

We've had a super king for years, never regretted it.

To. Be honest he's still a bit closer than I'd like 😝😝😝

Seriously though a big bed is where it's at. Life is too short to sleep cramped up every night.

Foodylicious · 17/09/2018 21:40

Definitely get one.
And a double duvet each.
Bliss

Sandstormbrewing · 17/09/2018 21:42

Anyone recommend a particular bed or mattress?

OP posts:
BagelGoesWalking · 17/09/2018 21:43

Absolutely the best thing ever. When the kids were smaller, we could all fit in easily for cuddles (never sleeping) and now I can keep a good distance away from DH's snores and breathing, and vice versa. 😬
You get used to wrestling a big duvet cover.

TheABC · 17/09/2018 21:45

Another super king convert here. The entire household (two adults, two kids and two cats) can pile in and it's possible to have enough space to sleep. Heck, the toddler has starfished between me & DH and we still slept on. Seriously, it has saved our sanity.

redsummershoes · 17/09/2018 21:45

ours is a simple ikea frame & matress.
very good value for money imo

HairyLegs11 · 17/09/2018 21:47

I would love a superking bed. It's the stuff dreams are made of. I would sleep like a star every night Grin Go for it! And get separate duvets too
