Full Sugar Coke

I don’t drink much, but when I do it’s bevause I want the sugar hit.

Are they trying to phase it out? With the increasing red on the Coke Zero (Coke with Zero sugar?) it feels like it. I can hardly ever find it in the shop (in the pre-packed sandwich bit).

I know, sugar is the root of all evil yada yada, but I hate the taste of sweetners.

I shall be quiet now 👍

The last three times I have asked for this in the pub I am sure I have been given diet coke. I only buy bottles now. Not happy as I hate sweeteners, they taste aweful.

Gizlotsmum · 16/09/2018 19:11

Yep and when you do find it the bottles are smaller. Noticed it since the increased tax on sugary drinks and it’s V annoying

PenguinSaidEverything · 16/09/2018 19:12

Have you tried Coke Zero though? I really like it because it tastes much more like Coke than Diet Coke. Not the point though! Yes, I’m afraid that post-sugar tax the sugary versions are harder to find.

I hadn't noticed less of it in the shops - but give Coke Zero a chance, I was a die hard red coke drinker but I think zero tastes the same. Hate Diet Coke though.

MrsMozart · 16/09/2018 19:13

If you're imagining it then so am I OP.

It's getting harder to find. I don't have it daily, or even weekly, but when I want it By Jove I Want Full Fat Coke!

There. I feel better for that Grin

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 16/09/2018 19:16

Sweeteners are vile. Worse than the sugar imo.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 16/09/2018 19:17

I drink coke about once a year so figure it's fine to drink the full fat version.

Hermagsjesty · 16/09/2018 19:18

I only like red coke too. I mostly only have it when I’m hungover/ pregnant though so I don’t feel too guilty about it! Our corner shop just does smaller cans post sugar tax which actually don’t mind as you still get the sugar hit.

Gizlotsmum · 16/09/2018 19:23

I don’t like Coke Zero. I miss the ‘proper’ coke taste.

brilliotic · 16/09/2018 19:30

Full sugar coke is now more expensive than similar drinks, and as such is often excluded from deals e.g. lunch deals with sandwich&drink.

So chances are you can't find it in the sandwich/food to go shelf, but it is very much still available in the regular drinks section.

At McDonalds you pay extra on top of the headline price if you choose regular coke over e.g. Fanta or Coke Zero.

Milkandcornflakes · 16/09/2018 19:32

Just wondering .geniunely..why do people call it "full fat"..when its sugar based..

Gizlotsmum · 16/09/2018 19:45

I guess as opposed to ‘diet’.

Even in the mains drinks aisle it is harder to find. Especially with Coke Zero now having a mostly red label too

ShimmeringIce · 16/09/2018 19:46

We’ve eaten out twice this weekend and couldn’t get normal coke in either place. In the first I could have had full-sugar Fanta though Hmm In the second I was given the ‘choice’ of Diet Pepsi or Pepsi Max.. surely the same feckin’ thing??
I’m not opposed to the tax, but resent not being allowed to choose to pay more and have sugar!

Saffzy · 16/09/2018 19:51

Not just you! Was in a pub the other day and they only had one of the non sugar varieties which taste disgusting to me!

Birdsgottafly · 16/09/2018 19:56

You'll find them in the discount shops, because they are buying up everyone's old stock.

I've just attended a Health Seminar, led by Research Consultants.

Its our intake of Carbs, that then get converted to sugar, that we need to watch.

That and our inactivity.

The sugar ban/tax will do nothing for health.

cheeseandcrackers77 · 16/09/2018 20:43

I think it is harder to find as it is being bought much more now by people like me who will not/cannot drink drinks with sweetners. Here in Scotland I drank irn bru till they changed it now i buy coke. Shops are selling out of full sugar coke i find but the shelves are full of diet sugar free stuff.

Coke are advertising round where I live heavily saying we give you a choice and have a picture of full sugar and coke zero.

I think this is because there is a backlash against irn bru and they are cashing in on that.

RiddleyW · 16/09/2018 20:49

It still exists. If shops aren’t stocking it then that’s because the demand isn’t there. It’s not a conspiracy!

BlueEyedBengal · 16/09/2018 21:06

I don't like the taste of full sugar coke and have gone off the zero. I really like the peach flavour and used to like cherry. I got to say I love Pepsi max and not so much the diet one. I really hate vanilla and the ginger one is horrible.

PolaDeVeboise · 16/09/2018 21:32

Don't get me started "cheeseandcrackers. I have @ 60 cans of 'proper' Irn Bru left and, when that is done, I will be distraught. However, Barrs wont get another penny from me - I shall be drinking full sugar coke.

SpoonBlender · 16/09/2018 21:49

There's loads of it around, just been to the supermarket today and they have crates - more red than the other ones.

I'm lucky in that I don't have the genes to get the bad taste from sweeteners - fortunate because I really can't stand the syrupyness of full-fat coke (or other sugared pop). Makes me feel like I've got a mouthful of oil or something. Bleh.

Anyway, it's not going. It's an American company! They never will stop selling sugar.

aperolspritzplease · 16/09/2018 21:52

I'd rather my kids had a small full sugar coke occasionally than the diet version.

9amtrain · 17/09/2018 00:44

Literally nothing tastes like regular coke. Nothing.

I see it less too. All the other shitty versions yes, but not full sugar come.

9amtrain · 17/09/2018 00:44

Coke..

purpleme12 · 17/09/2018 00:51

You are not imagining it. I saw someone on tele talk about it recently as well I can't remember what it was on

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 17/09/2018 00:58

Yup - can’t get it at Cineworld Sad. They don’t stock it at all in the bottle fridge and when you ask for it on draught in a cup they always say they’re out of proper coke and you have to have diet or Fanta (which tastes like it’s full of sweeteners even if they don’t call it ‘diet’ or zero).

If any of you have tried Coco Pops recently they’ve also tampered with them - bloody vile they are now! Luckily the Tesco ones I have are still ok but if they follow suit I shall not be impressed. Why can’t they just let us make our own choices?! Fucking nannying us over sugar while people continue to drink alcohol, smoke and eat plenty of other shit. Unless they bring back rationing they won’t stamp out obesity, they’ll just get more money out of us in the meantime.
