Full Sugar Coke

I don’t drink much, but when I do it’s bevause I want the sugar hit.

Are they trying to phase it out? With the increasing red on the Coke Zero (Coke with Zero sugar?) it feels like it. I can hardly ever find it in the shop (in the pre-packed sandwich bit).

I know, sugar is the root of all evil yada yada, but I hate the taste of sweetners.

I shall be quiet now 👍

I think I'm being served sugar free in pubs when they use syrup. I'm happy to pay more for an occasional treat.

madeoficecream · 17/09/2018 10:03

well not where I live!
I only drink diet or zero because the sugar makes me jittery but I really like the taste of coke.
I went in three newsagents the other day trying to find a bottle or even a can of diet coke and the two which stocked coke, only had the full sugar version in both cans and bottles!

TonTonMacoute · 17/09/2018 10:18

I also much prefer the fizzy drinks that have sugar in them. I actually hardly ever drink them, but when I do I want the full sugar versions and I am happy to pay the extra for the sugar tax.

They haven’t banned the sugary versions and I don’t see why I should be denied the choice.

Who is denying you a choice?

Dr pepper is grim now they've changed that too

TonTonMacoute · 17/09/2018 11:38

Who is denying you a choice?

This whole thread is all about not being being able to find the full sugar version in supermarkets, and people suspecting that they are being served the sweetened version in pubs and McDs, even when they specifically ask for the sugared one. That is being denied a choice.

(Slightly Confused at having to explain such a basic point).

Pepsi Max Ginger? I need to go shopping....

BlackWatchBelle · 17/09/2018 16:45

My local Asda don't sell boxes of 30 coke anymore, 24 is their biggest, I asked a staff member and they said its the sugar tax. As a grown woman I will make my own choice, so many places not selling it. Subway, Pizza Hut and Cineworld. I used the sugary drinks to treat my sons hypo's, lucozade was a go to but not anymore. They have sucked the sugar out of Capri Sun to. He doesn't like coke. Fed up of it.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 17/09/2018 17:00

I’ve drunk more full sugar Coca Cola since the sugar tax was brought in than ever before. That’s because I know that they have no intention of changing the recipe in the way that other brands have. If I drink artificial sweeteners I get ill so at least I know I’m safe with good old red Coca Cola if I’m not drinking water (or beer or wine.....).

Womaningreen · 17/09/2018 17:03

well this is an eye opener!

I occasionally like a coca cola and the last few times I looked in the newsagent, there wasn't any. I just assumed it was about hot summer, or going late after work etc...but maybe not. I've never seen a shortage of diet coke - my mum only ever has diet but she has it every day.

maybe I should stock up!

CuppaSarah · 17/09/2018 17:14

Artificial sweeteners give me mega diarrhea. It's awful! There are barely any nice drinks I can treat myself to thanks to the bloody sugar tax. Even squash and cordial are full of sweeteners. They're in everything now. The amount of times I get caught out and end up spending a day in the bathroom. I'm so fed up of it. I'd happily pay extra to avoid sweeteners, but it's rarely an option anymore.

SecretNutellaFix · 17/09/2018 17:40

Maybe we need a list of all of the brands/ retailers which still have non-sweetenered soft drinks?

Coca-Cola Classic
Coca-Cola Cherry Classic
Appletiser
Belvoir Fruit Farms Light Raspberry Lemonade- no sweetener at all, just less sugar.

tccat · 17/09/2018 17:47

I'm laughing at the full sugar come, if only, I'd be way more enthusiastic

Allergictoironing · 17/09/2018 18:28

I'm another one who can't tolerate aspartame - headaches, nausea, wind & the runs etc. I noticed years ago that many pub "tap" fizzy drinks seemed to have sweeteners in (even if they denied it, my stomach told me!). More and more non-diet drinks are slipping sweeteners in without saying anything - Fanta & Tango used to be safe and now aren't for example, and I don't know a single own-brand that is sugar only. Pepsi and Coke are safe so far (and Pepsi id a little bit cheaper Grin).

I was at my GPs the other day, and she actually used the word "toxic" regarding aspartame when we were talking about eating habits!

PoptartPoptart · 17/09/2018 18:41

I brought a bottle of full sugar coke in Tesco the other day to go in the slow cooker with a joint of gammon.
I could not believe how expensive it was compared to the ‘diet’ or sugar free alternatives.
Diet Coke or sugar free coke does not work well with gammon in the slow cooker so you had no choice but to pay the extra cost.

Disfordarkchocolate · 17/09/2018 19:06

Last time I checked Fentimans hadn't been corrupted.

TheZeppo · 17/09/2018 19:08

See, even the fact it’s now ‘Coca Cola Classic’ annoys me.

The cynic in me thinks they blasted us with the peach/mango/fiery cherry ones to try and ease us into them getting rid of the full fat version.

I’m still cross. I may set up a campaign 😂

I hate sweeteners. I have full fat coke when I fancy one which isn't so often. Whenever I put it on my Tesco shop they almost always substitute with diet or zero and I bloody well hate it 😡

LeftRightCentre · 17/09/2018 19:34

I can't abide any sweeteners, either. They all give me cramps and diarrhoea. Coke Zero tastes vile and nothing like full-sugar Coke. I fucking hate what's been done to fizzy drinks now that cunt Jamie Oliver's stuck his fat beak in.
