I hate he bloody thing because it’s so BIG.

But we use it for jacket potatoes, ready mash Blush, and defrosting fish in a rush Blush

Could we manage without???

I’ve never had one except at my rented student house for a few years. Didn’t have one at my parents and don’t have one now.

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 09/09/2018 22:42

Only use ours for defrosting bread and for Uncle Ben's rice, so yeah, we could probably manage without!

SanFranBear · 09/09/2018 22:42

Don't have one here and whilst I sometimes wish I could nuke my cold tea rather than make a new one, don't miss it at all.

INeedNewShoes · 09/09/2018 22:45

I managed without a microwave for a couple of years. The things I missed most:

  • the facility to defrost things quickly, but then you can just submerge in tepid water for the same end result.
  • starting off jacket potatoes (I tend to microwave for around 7 minutes then just crisp up in a hot oven)

I now use it for reheating portions of meals I've frozen for DD (16m). When this microwave carks it I probably won't bother replacing it as the counter space is more useful than the few things I use it for.

YerAuntFanny · 09/09/2018 22:45

Yes.

Ours broke melted 6 months ago and I said we'd wait until payday to replace, the longer we left it the more I realised how little we actually used it!

The only time I miss it is when I have cold tea or forget to defrost something but that's not so often anymore.

MarcieBluebell · 09/09/2018 22:46

Use it all the time. I've lived without a fridge freezer and an oven/hobs but could never live without a microwave.

Sallygoroundthemoon · 09/09/2018 22:50

I don't have one and I don't miss it at all. I have to plan ahead more to take stuff out of the freezer to defrost but overall I feel healthier for not having one and I eat better too.

TillyVonMilly · 09/09/2018 22:50

Not had a microwave for about five years. I rarely used it, never understood what the fuss was about

itinkthereforeima · 09/09/2018 22:52

I lived without one for 2 years as a student. I had to spend more time reheating food, but it was fine once I got used to preplanning time to do that.

zen1 · 09/09/2018 22:52

I’m in my forties and never had one. My mum has never owned one either. I’ve never felt the need.

TheFaerieQueene · 09/09/2018 22:53

I don’t have one. I don’t ever have the need for one.

Redyoyo · 09/09/2018 22:54

I chucked mine years ago for the reason it took up too much space on the worktop, i have never missed it.

BlowPoke · 09/09/2018 22:54

We use it constantly. Reheating leftovers and cold tea, making porridge, steaming small portions of veg for the kids, and lots of other things. Couldn’t live without it.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 09/09/2018 22:54

No, I work late and eat a lot of prepared food and freezer meals..I don’t take them out to defrost as sometimes I get home too late to eat but no microwave meant everything takes much longer and I end up eating really late

esk1mo · 09/09/2018 22:55

same as sanfran

dont have one but wish i did so i could heat up my coffee in the morning after i let it get cold

FlotSHAMnJetson · 09/09/2018 22:55

We never had one until we had children and used it to steralise bottles, now I like it for heating the pancakes for crispy duck!

FrangipaniBlue · 09/09/2018 22:55

Haven't had one for about 12yrs and we manage fine Smile

AnotherMum76 · 09/09/2018 22:55

Don't have one and haven't done for many years. IMO take up far too much room with minimal benefits.

Washedwithrain · 09/09/2018 22:56

Submerging stuff in tepid water to defrost it? Please tell me you dont do that with meat or rice?

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 09/09/2018 22:56

Never had one.

greendale17 · 09/09/2018 22:57

Had one for 3 years when I lived with friends. I never used it and I still don’t have one. Bit 90s microwaves are

bananafish81 · 09/09/2018 22:57

Could live without an oven but not a microwave!

7toGo · 09/09/2018 23:09

Hmm ok! Maybe we will give it a try and see how long we can last...

lifechangesforever · 09/09/2018 23:14

I don't have a microwave - manage just fine. Can't stand the things taking up space on the counter!
